Amazon Smile

My son and I did an Appleseed event 6 or 7 years ago and they mentioned this program which I didn't even know about at the time. I signed up using the Revolutionary War Veterans which puts on the Appleseed events.

…and here I thought you were going to state the resemblance of the smile to a certain part of the male anatomy…

Go ahead and look…. You’ll never “unsee” it. Every truck and package you receive forever and ever will be excited to see you!! ;)

If you’re not aware, that one’s debatable. They do more marketing and throwing of parties than supporting their stated mission.

Edit: looks like they’ve cleaned up their act and fired those who wasted money. Worth supporting again IMO.

I read some reports of that some years back. Thought they had cleaned up their act. Not the case?

Thanks. Looks like D.A.V. may have a better "giving" rate. Looking now to see if that's an option on Smile.

ETA - Switched to this.

You are correct. I just read some other sources to confirm; they fired the execs behind the lavish spending and are again rated pretty well. I hadn’t looked into them since that news broke and basically wrote them off. Thanks for bringing that to my attention.

I’ve been using Gun Owners Foundation for years. It’s the GOA.

Got this email Monday:

977BDBB7-E24B-44A7-80BE-4A017DB9D2ED.jpeg
This is the quarterly notification to inform you that AmazonSmile has made a charitable donation to the charity you’ve selected, Gun Owners Foundation, in the amount of $31,691.11 as a result of qualifying purchases made by you and other customers who have selected this charity.

Thanks to customers shopping at smile.amazon.com, or with AmazonSmile ON in the Amazon Shopping app, everyday purchases have generated over $293 million in donations to charities worldwide so far.

AmazonSmile's impact:
  • $276,939.61 to Gun Owners Foundation*
  • $262,635,668.36 to all charities in the US
  • $293,003,584.01 to all charities worldwide

According to the Federalist, Amazon Smile uses the Southern Poverty Law Center to determine which charities to ban. Jeff Bezos says they do not allow groups that foster "hate", which to them means Christian, patriotic, or conservative groups. I'm surprised GOA (my charitable choice) is still allowed. Mayby SPLC hasn't heard of GOA yet. The article in the Federalist that I'm referencing was in August 3, 2020 by Jordan Davidson.

Michigan Gun Owners is a rights and education nonprofit
I think they said Prime gave them a little over 500 this last quarter
So a couple thousand a year to support local gun rights and safety/education. Not bad.
