Seems like 9mm ammo has been at a reasonable price in 2024.
Is now a good time to buy some for the safe/closet? Or wait for prices to go down more?

I am mainly interested in good quality, well know brands, brass case. I see Winchester 115gr (and 124gr) around $0.26/round locally.

Yes, 100%. Stock up now before things get screwy in a few months with election season. Local @ 26cpr for known brands you trust and know work in your firearm is a good in-person brick&mortar price. Get it now while you can. I'm getting stuff at 24-25cpr shipped online, so I'd be okay with 26cpr for local purchase.

What brand can you get roughly 1000 rnds shipped for 24-25 cpr?
Or are you buying more?
I order PMC, Federal and Blazer pretty much exclusively. Bereli is a website that often has those for that price. Hawg is right about Ammoseek being a great resource. I also watch MrGunsNGear's Telegram channel for ammo deals when he posts them.

Best prices right now in 2-3 yrs but...still 50% higher than B4 covid at $12 a box vs $8 and I wouldn't but it then because reloading was cheaper. The cost of components being what it is, I can't load it for 25cents a round with new brass

That's the same conclusion I came to as well. I love handloading. Handloading is great. But at the rate I shoot 9mm, and only having access to a single stage press, I just cannot justify the time spent on 9mm when buying factory ammo is cheaper and performs just as well within the context of what I do with it. 9mm's economy of scale is just so great that just buying it by the case when it goes on sale with free shipping and no tax can't be beat.

When it comes to ammo, I never bet on it "getting cheaper" in the future, and always buy as much as I can as often as I can.

In recent months I’ve purchased 2 cases of 124gr Blazer brass, separately, for a hair under $250/k shipped. Fuquay has 115gr for $241 shipped.

At $250/k, it’s not worth my time to reload and use up my pre-covid components. Plus I can pickup the brass for quality, once-fired.

Edit: can’t forget the Academy zinc coated steel case deal for $214/k OTD. A couple hundred down and no issues through various guns. I hope it goes on sale for $9.99/box again!

Yeah, I'm afraid now is about as cheap as it will get for the foreseeable future. If you can swing it, do it.

Using components from before the "disappearance" I can make 9mm plinking stuff for less but if I had to restock at current prices. I would be around .22 cents with range brass and not counting my labor time.

Ends up costing less to use fun money to buy cases of factory ammo and save my components for a rainy day in the future.

That's kinda where I'm at with loading 9s. Might as well "make good, clean known-once-fired brass".
Components are for... "later". And not easily useful to yer average jaggov. FWIW. 🙄 o_O 🤔

This hobby/lifestyle/right is too damn expensive!

I agree with others that we've probably hit the low point for 9mm (and 22lr). 5.56 feels overpriced still, but then again, global events may play a role on that one. The puppet in the White House appears to have indefinitely screwed us on cheap Russian 7.62x69, as well.

Despite what some people want to believe ammunition is not immune to inflation. We will never really see prices back down to 7-8 dollars a box anymore than we are likely to see $1/gallon gas or a decent house in wake county for 75k.

Prices seem stable for now but I wouldn't expect any crazy deals coming, if it isn't cost effective to make in volume they will just make less and charge more

Good point about inflation over the years.
Here is an example of what $8.00 in 2008 would be today. $12.00

Checking my emails and saw this one, take advantage of the dip as now is likely the best time to start investing in 9mm if for some reason you haven't already.

Since ammo does not go bad there is little risk in buying, worst case is you paid a little bit too much but have some on hand.

Ammo is not going to go down much more if at all. This is the new normal.
Agreed. $250-300/k isn’t terrible when we look back 10-20yr and consider the inflation we’ve seen, not to mention changes in supply and demand.
I remember buying a case of federal 115gr for $180/k from my local FFL, granted that was slightly high at the time (approx 2008). I also got Fed 55gr .223 for $280/k at that time and that was a great deal.
So I doubt 9mm is falling anymore, though .223/5.56 has some room still.

Yea, in Sep 2019 I bought 1000 rounds of Federal American Eagle 5.56, 55gr for $284 minus a $0.03/rnd rebate from Federal.
$284 - $30 = $254 so $0.254/rnd M193

And in the fall of 2022, Winchester had 20% rebate on loose 5.56, 55gr in a mini plastic ammo can. So I bought 600 rounds; net $0.338/rnd

I am a fan of SG ammo, but Sam Gabbert’s emails are irritating / comical. They’re so obviously trying to drum up business. Everything is about how this is the last pallet or prices are going to double next month, so forth. Whiles prices are unlikely to drop in any election year, the reason to purchase ammo is so it’s available for use. Plain and simple. Since 2013 (sandy hook) I’ve been purchasing any good price ammo I would shoot. This allows one to survive ammo droughts. More chamberings (such as .40S&W) and ability to supplement by reloading are two excellent strategies to hedge against volatility.

He sends these out all the time.

Rest assured, if there is a price spike or run, he'll make sure to cancel any current orders, pull everything off the site, relist it higher, and send out an email about how it's so hard to get stock right now, last pallet ever, etc.

I don't care what SGanus' prices are, I'll never buy from there again.

I wasn't aware of them fear mongering in emails, but I'm gathering that now.

I haven't ordered from SG in years, mostly due to prices always being more than I can find the same thing elsewhere. I look at a lot of promo emails from good and crap companies, that just happened to catch my eye and was a "huh" moment.
