Earlier last week I decided I wanted a 45 acp SBR. After a ton of research I settled on an LWRC SMG 45. I ordered one through a distributor, and it arrived via FedEx bright and early this morning. I was so thrilled, until I inspected the gun. There are visible machine marks from the manufacturing process along the mag well, and less noticable rub marks in the finish in other places. The distributor only had this one in stock, which left me having to contact LWRC for an RMA to return the gun. That email was never received even after 2 phone calls to confirm my email address. I don't know. I'm becoming a touch frustrated with this, and can't help but ask, would you have been satisfied with this QC issue, or am I being too critical of a gun at this price point?

I can honestly say I personally don't care about machine marks. If it runs, I'm happy, if it doesn't run, I'm not happy.

Some machine marks are nothing compared to what's going to happen to it when I start shooting it and throwing it around 😅.

Hey Colt, I get it. Honestly, I expect more attention to detail from a high-end, top teir manufacturer and would definitely make them aware.
That being said, I subscribe to what others have said...minor cosmetic anomalies don't bother me as long as it doesn't effect functionality and it "runs".

I didn’t know they made these. What are they priced at, and where can you get them? Looks nice. The tool marks wouldn’t bother me. 🤡

I’m not 100% positive this is exact same as OP but …

Primary Arms had one (as in 1 left) for $2,800 but, it sold recently.

OP, my bp is higher over difficulty in reaching Mfr than is over those marks … sadly, lack of QC is almost an expectation nowadays whereas lack of comms / access to Mfr of a $2,500+ pcc is NOT!

Honestly not sure I'd even notice. I'd be like "look how they did this cool extra fade to these lines on the magwell". Lolz.

I've noticed some people have a keener eye for gun details than I do. I swear my neighbor can spot a grain of unburnt powder on his WC 1911 from 50 feet away. Dude puts down a special micro fiber towel to set his gun on at the range! I am a gun luddite I guess.

edit: I will say that my expectations from LWRC would be pretty high and if I didn't like something I'd do same thing and contact them. Of at least try to....

If its a "workin" gun, then I dont care about machine marks and minor blemishes as long as it runs well. I am goin to do far more damage to it than a few (actually kinda cool lookin) marks on the receiver.

It's not so much that I'm concerned the gun won't run, I'm sure it will. But at that price point I guess I don't expect flaws, especially when I've had literally hundreds of PSA/Anderson lowers pass through here that didn't exhibit these issues. I'm sure the gun runs fine.

I understand where you are coming from. It's like buying a new car and seeing that first little imperfection. You want to rub it and see if it will go away. After you use it for a while and it gets some character, you start to care less.

I feel like marks that I put on it are ok bc I put them there and I paid for it. Marks on it from some guy at the factory that was having a bad day would bother me as well. Especially on a gun at that price.

Update here, I contacted LWRC and basically they've agreed to replace the firearm. Not exactly a great first impression from a company of this caliber in regards to the damage, but they've agreed to replace it and that's as good of a resolution as you can hope for I suppose.

Why is that not a great first impression? They’re replacing what is presumably a perfectly functioning firearm with a very minor cosmetic imperfection. That seems like great service and totally unnecessary. Many manufacturers would even consider this a serviceable issue.
Every KAC ever sold comes scuffed up and blemished. They would probably laugh in your face for trying to return it.

My issue is with the initial issue and whoever in QC was smoking crack when this occured. I am satisfied with their resolution.

I have bought two SMG 45s. The 1st run when they was having accuracy issues and 2nd run and I have not seen mill marks on either of mine. I will say getting in touch with warranty was a pain, I had the left side bolt catch screw fall out and I needed a replacement. I called and emailed messaged of FB group, I filled out the form on the LWRC website and then they contacted and resolved issue.
I would not of minded the finish but considering the price point I do not see a issue with a person expecting 100% quality.IMG_E2400[1].JPGIMG_E4817.JPG

👍

Only thing I care about looks in is women and dogs. Guns and cars I don’t care about looks as long as they do what I need em to do when I need wm to do it!” - R. Thorsen
