Smokeless Burn Barrel

I saw that video yesterday. I thought it was too much work. I've been playing with the concept a little. But, want to have a design that's simpler to implement. Currently, I have one with angled air slots cut around the base for a cleaner burn. Just haven't had much time to do testing.

Basically the smokeless fire pits-burn barrels let in more air. I have a stone fire pit that is 4 layers high. The middle 2 layers have about. A 1.5 inch gap between each stone. The gaps make a huge difference.

In the video, he could have just drilled.some holes in the barrel and been done with it.

Yeah, some designs deal with pre-heating the air in a double wall design, kinda sorta like he was doing. But, others simply allow more air into the mix in a directed manner. The first one I played with sound like a jet engine when I was burning cardboard, according to my daughter, but ashes clogged it up easily when I burned limbs. I've since modified it.

That said, I'm also looking at more complicated designs for heating purposes. It's pretty interesting to delve into.

Just buy the solo stove bonfire or Yukon.
Buy it off the shelf, when I can spend more money, time, effort and frustration to create a less efficient and crappy looking product?

It's like you don't even know me.

It's all about the journey...

here is something (smoke less?) to try which does not cost money or time....

set your burn barrel at an angle....not straight up.
maybe tilt it as much as 20 degrees.
brace and fire it up to test it.
if it works, great.
if it does not....well,
it was free to try.
