I'm growing out my beard and trying to straighten it and make it less pubey looking. I dont know what kind of brush to get. What do you guys use?15812927820003982538822183794129.jpg

I just use hair conditioner when I shower and mine stays pretty straight. I use to do the oil and all that other stuff but it didn’t really do anything just conditioning it doesn’t do. I’ll steal my wife’s brush and use it to pull out dead hairs but usually just run my fingers through it. image.jpg It’s pretty majestic on its own. I have been getting it trimmed up a bit when I get a hair cut since it doesn’t grow as long in the middle.

Boar bristle brush and a sandalwood comb... A good dandruff conditioner to keep it from getting dusty and crunchy, and any quality beard oil.

Use a lice comb.
Yeah, it sounds awful,
But they make the times out of metal,
they are cheap and readily available,
And they also scrape out any left behind oil or gunk

I condition in shower. Don't wash it everyday. Maybe twice a week depending on how sweaty your job is. You don't want to be stripping the natural oils from your hair and skin.
If I haven't been rolling in mud or sweating heavily I rinse it well and condition only.

I occasionally use some quality beard oil (this is for the skin mostly actually). Keep it lubed somewhat, as if it dries out it will start breaking off when you brush it.
If I am going out, and need to tame it a bit (or if its feeling dry), I use the "Grave Before Shave" beard balm. A little goes a long way with these products. Good balm gives it nice texture and will clean up the look quite a bit. Too much and it will feel greasy and annoying, so go light and really get it in there.

I also have a good Barber who knocks it down when I get my hair cut once a month. Mine is pretty curly and needs pretty good length to become manageable. I embrace the curl and don't fight it. Get a lot of compliments on it actually.
A lot of guys are afraid to grow it out for two main reasons:
1. It needs to grow quite long to get over the itchyness, as the hair begins to curl back into the face at first. This will drive you nuts, but you gotta get past it.
2. Patchyness. You have to get some length on it and the patches will start to disappear.

Might seem like a bit of work, but so much easier than shaving every day. Not sure I can ever go back.

Wow, this thread has been a revelation!
I had no idea so much work went into all the awesome facial hair! I thought you just let it go and let it grow!
I have a new appreciation for it now! LoL.

I have a friend who sometimes puts a little rubber band in his, and it looks sort of pirate-ish, but his beard is really long. It looks fabulous! lol.

I'm not sure how to even respond to the last post

I steal my old ladies round brush. Works good. Tip: Whatever oil/balm you use. Make sure SHE likes it.

I think it's just past the itchy phase, except when I wear my chinstrap for my CPAP machine, it makes it itchy AF. Growing it out on account of the wife likes it. I dont think I've ever had it this long. From my jaw line down it's not patchy but my cheeks are for some reason, meh... it needs a touch up, gotta get rid of the 'neck beard' lol

Had my beard for 35 years, never used anything special. It gets washed with whatever I wash my face with, and shampoo when I wash my hair. I vary length from about an inch to about six inches if I don't need to worry about what I look like.
Can't wait to retire and not trim it ever again.
Great grandfather was 6' 6" and could tuck his beard under his belt standing up full height. I

This is why I switched from Grave before Shave to Viking Revolution. The wife likes the cedar and pine scent from VR.

My beard hair is very curly. The heat comb straightens it right out while also softening it considerably.

I wash mine daily with shampoo and shave above my beard line and my neck with the same shampoo. Then I heat comb it and apply the beard balm. I also use the balm on my head whether my hair is buzzed or razored.

Well... Can't say I've heat combed mine. I did cut 4-5 inches off recently and I gotta say its easier to maintain. Shampoo and soap daily with a thorough brushing after. There is "smell good" stuff out there. Not my thing but some of the beard stuff just stinks.

I have had my beard for years. Tried most products. Find a shampoo your girl uses that doesn't strip the natural oils out of your beard. Conditioner is an important step. Again take whatever she uses to start with. Find what you like and stick with it. IMO the beard specific shampoos and conditioners arent worth the coin. Be careful what face soap you use. Some of them will dry your skin out and make you have more beard dandruff.

Boars hair brush......dont brush too much . Most any brand will do walmart sells a Goody brand one.

Kent 12T comb stays in pocket all day. Sawcut teeth so no injection molded imperfections to pull your hair out.

Beard Jelly BEST PRODUCT EVER. I have tried all the balms and oils and find this to be best for my beard.

That gets killer reviews. Might try some. Thanks.

Edit: I agree that the specific shampoos and conditioners arent worth it.
