Wizard drill results pics ( Where’s yours?)

Just an update,

I’ve shot the wizard almost daily for the past 2 weeks and haven’t got it once in that time period. The last time I recorded was last Tuesday I think (I’ll post a video later when I get home from work) but since it’s got cold I just can’t seem to clear my clothes in a quick enough time and if I do, I have to rush my shot/shots. If it’s cold I always wear a T-shirt, hoodie, and coat. 99% of the time this is how I dress living in the county so I can take layers on and off. Just thought I’d check in, good luck and keep shooting.

You get a bonus point for doing with a smoke though!

Wow, you guys are getting fast. I'm still in the "over 3 seconds" category.....dang!
But all I want right now is to get all the shots! That's not going well, but I'll get there eventually!

As Clint says, "I have never seen a chronograph at a gunfight!"
And also, "You don't have to shoot fast - you have to shoot well. If you shoot well, you'll be fast."

We have distinguished guests on The Battery Oaks . @Hashknife and his friend Larry Brown are here for a while. We went to Mike's today for lab work on the 300 Hammer they brought. When we got back we all 3 tried the Wizard. As per Hackathorn, Cold and Concealed. I was hoping heartily to give away 2 new shirts. Alas, the only successful candidate already has one. The Wizard is tough.

I’m just too slow to put those last two rounds on target under 2.5

I bet you're not.
I'm certainly no expert but may I suggest you work on reacting to the B in the beep, not the eep. Ask me how I know.
And video yourself if possible. It really helps.

But all I want right now is to get all the shots!

How does it go? Fast is fine, accuracy is final, or something along those lines.
Keep it up, you will get there.

I am. I’ve done the drill in a class that was discussed in here a few days ago.

The trigger staged and all you have to do is break the shot when you hear the B in beep. I’m slow.

I’m under the 2.5 seconds with rounds on target on the first three strings of the drill.

It’s breaking that last shot on the last string that puts me over 2.5.

Finally got around to uploading this video after knocking this one out this week.

I liked this drill. It was A LOT more challenging than I thought it was going to be. The consistency I found in it was due largely to feeling like I had to "dial" each shot in before I was comfortable with letting the shot go. Glad I saw this one here, as I hadn't even seen this one before, let alone shot it. The learning continues.

I tried this today for the first time today, several times, using G23 5 o’clock in a Crossbreed SuperTuck.
I was hitting 3 & 5 yards one handed under 2 sec reliably, if I got my cover clear. Kept failing at the 7 yard mark.
Now I’m annoyed, thus hooked to beat him.

That was impressive!
It looked like you were in no hurry at all. lol.

Thanks! That's exactly what I try to go for. I have found that when I rush myself on an exercise like this, that is a sure fire way for things to come off the rails. I've had my fair share of disasters, and they almost always happened while I was in a hurry.

I'm so new to shooting, and especially to the timer, that all that beep means to me is "begin".....after that I can't think about it. I'm slow and trying to be safe.

Being safe is a great thing, hands down. That being said, there is a point where you have to come out of your comfort zone in order to find progress.

And make no mistake, being a new shooter and being exposed to the "stress box" that is the shot timer will do far more good than harm. You are on the right path.

Hence the (2) matches! Talk about out of the comfort zone! Wow.
Shooting one with the .45 should be a challenge, and I can't wait to see what happens.

One day, I hope to do a 2gun match, but that will be at least a year away.

I got a late start, but I'm pushing myself. Lol. It's scary, but fun.

Even though I was exhausted I made myself go to the range today. Is the first time I've done any live-fire this year.
3 1/2 inch m&p 40c, 180 gr Win Ranger T's. Failed at the 5 yd line with half a second to spare. Apparently dry-fire doesn't help with accuracy. :( Who knew?

I was there about noon running the wizard, and listening to Chris mag dump that PCC with the happy switch.

I can’t beat the last string of the Wizard, but I feel pretty good about my draw and shot placement.

That's a Huge WOW from me!!!!!! It was COLD_CONCEALED_CLEAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Amazing to watch. Shirt # 5 was awarded. Sure would like to see some pictures of our Wizard Killers sporting their shirts and hats.
We ended the day with 10 shooters today. The last left about 15 minutes ago. Fed and shot out. Another Grand day on The Battery Oaks!!!
See Ya'll Saturday for The Rolling Thunder send off for @Geezer . Come early, gates open at 8 AM. Wizard attempts after 10 and the big send off at NOON sharp.

Made all good hits on the wizard today, but the 10 yarder got me at a 2.60. FAIL, lol.

Yea, breaking that second shot fast enough at 10 yards kicks my butt

Man, tell me about it. I'm getting solid hits under two seconds, except the last string, lol. I will get a shirt..... hopefully sooner rather than later, haha.

I’ve been shooting the Wizard with a G43. All good till the last shot of the drill.
I’m gonna run it with a full sized gun just to see what that does to my times.

I've been primarily carrying a G-48, thus that's what I've been using. I still sometime carry my RMR'd 19, but haven't tried in awhile with it. I'm determined to clear it cold with the 48.

Wizard Killers....Remember....ONLY the first attempt counts. This means No warm ups, no Ghost Draws, nothing. First drill of the day. Not after shooting for a while and then attempting.....COLD....Concealed....Clean!!!!!
Yes sir, that was my first drill right out of the truck today. Ran once, cussed, and moved on, haha.

"You don't have to shoot fast - you have to shoot well. If you shoot well, you'll be fast."
One of my favorites is when Clint tells about his conversation with Col Cooper....Mr. Cooper told me " Clint shoot good, not fast. A student will never forget the plate you missed."
When Cooper started Gunsite in 1976 he stopped shooting in matches. He realized that when you attempt to become a teacher all eyes are on you. People don't remember how many plates you knocked down, they Are quick to say..Whoa, did you see him miss that plate?
I have never held myself out to be a teacher or instructor. I Only offer help when asked. I also point out that this works Only for ME. I love the phrase that Jim Higginbotham uses....We Must all find our own salvation....Ain't that the truth?

Yep, as Sijo Bruce Lee once said,
“Adapt what is useful, reject what is useless, and add what is specifically your own.”
