Anybody else hike all or part of the Appalachian Trail? I hiked from Amicalola Falls to to the 1/4 way mark in Virginia this past summer. Over 600 miles of living in a tent. Bug Out practice

The problem with 20 mile days is you do not get to stop and take in the wonder of it all.I have a buddy that is hiking in short sections one or two trips a year. He's asked me to go on his next hike probably end of May. Looks like it starts at mile marker 701.7, Dragons tooth. Should be doing 47.7 miles in two and a half days. Last one he did he was averaging over 20 miles a day and I told him I didn't think I could make it that far. Getting out now trying to get in better shape so I can keep up with him.

So was I when I started. I did about 8 miles a day to start and slowly increased. Allowed myself plenty of rest and stretched every time I stopped.Too out of shape to be hiking 600 miles. We hiked around 7 miles of of the Roan Highlands back in December and plan to do some more soon, beautiful areas up there. Maybe one day I'll have the motivation and time to traverse the entire thing.
Remember those 50+ MPH winds...with sleet, snow pelting our faces...fearing for our lives??Did a section around big creek last year and ran into some thru hikers.
