I used to play a lot 20 years ago. I also played a lot of Ultimate at the time. I used to play Pratt Park in Fredericksburg, VA. It is one of the oldest courses in the country. It is home to the VA States Frisbee Championships. This year would have been the 44th year for the tournament if it had not been cancelled do to COVID. There are several really nice courses in that area.
One of my friends and former business partner from Fredericksburg is Steve Dodge. He owns Maple Hill Disc Golf in Lesiter, MA. It is one of the best courses in the world. When he moved there his dream was to create "The Majors" for Disc Golf. He wanted his tournament to be "The Masters" of Disc Golf. The Vibram Open now known as the Maple Hill Open is pretty much that.
He was the one who started the Vibram Disc Golf Line. He convinced them back in the day to make them using the same plastics that they were using to make rubber soles for shoes and boots. He then went on to found the Disc Golf Pro Tour which he recently sold. Steve is a crazy love him or leave him kind of dude. He was a much better Disc Golfer than I was. Lots of guys as they get older move from Ultimate to Disc Golf because there is less running. LOL
I have played a few locally but I am pretty rusty. Rutherfordton is actually in the process of converting the old 9 hole city golf course into a park which will include a 18 hole Disc Golf course. If it moves forward I will probably be part of the group that helps to design the course with help from the PDGA.
PS its Disc with "C" not a "K".
