Solvent trap kits

Yes, this comes from the Sylvia and Wayne Daniels (SWD, Cobray, Leinad) days when selling suppressor kits became illegal. So Daniels 1 sold half the kits at one table and Daniels 2 sold the other half at an adjoining table.

The ATF responded with "OK, now ANY part is a suppressor and is illegal without the stamp".

Wayne is still around (i've corresponded with him) but Sylvia took most of his money and left. There's a fascinating transcript of his court proceedings where he was charged with selling SMG kits one of which was subsequentedly used to kill a Denver area DJ years ago. .

Those two (Sylvia and Wayne) were not dumb. The transcript is a great read

So a tube with internal threads on both ends is OK, a 1/2-28 (or whatever) threaded insert for one end is OK, and the other parts are ok as long as they aren’t center drilled?

Then you do the F1, and when approved, engrave it and drill the other end and baffles.

That keeps everything legal?

Sounds about right.

Here’s a look at the internals of one of them:

That's todays theory.

The ATF is nothing if not inconsistent (and slow)

As info...

I’ve seen a couple reports of customs intercepting some of the kits from overseas recently.

Time to wrap up these last three. @Magdump Cerakoted the tubes and end caps for me. I’d had a end cap strike recently and Nick fixed that one (bore was too small) and made me two more as backups, which also got Cerakoted (along with a red dot riser). The stacks are all heat-treated 17-4.

I’ve posted a couple pics upstream of the internals, but here’s everything together. It’s amazing the difference light plays into what color these look. But FDE is my color-coded choice for 300BLK.

(Yes, the one on the left in the first pic made it to the range before the cerakote work was done...they were all previously coated tungsten gray, or something like that, by me)

@BigWaylon

SO Im trying to get REALLY quiet on a 6.5 Grendel. Would you think there would be much more suppression on the 10" vs. 8"? Its longer, but I dont mind the weight since Im shooting off a tripod. Now if some of the Form 1 places would get kits in stock. grrr.

Probably not.

One of the best sounding cans on the market (to me) is still the Omega 300. It’s ~6” if you set it up with a flat cap instead of the anchor brake, and use direct thread.

You ought to be able to have a good sounding silencer with an 8” tube.

My Omega pretty darn quiet on an 18" Grendel. I would not hesitate to run it without ear pro out in the field. On a covered range or with walls/berms in close proximity, I'd want some foammies.

I was gonna do a Form 1 can. This is going on my Yote gun and the suppressor really confuses them. Plus, these people let us come hunt at night, so the more quiet, the better, even if I have to give up some length.

Need some help on 2 30 cal cans and a 9mm can @BigWaylon

:)
Good luck!! :p

At this point I’d join up on the F1 boards and check out all the BST stuff. There aren’t a whole lot of “kits” I’ve found recently.

The other (possibly more expensive) option is to just source a tube and the ends, and drill a hole in the end cap. That counts as a silencer, and you can then send it to Nick at ECCO to make a real baffle stack. But it’s not much more since you’re not buying cones in the first place...and you don’t have to figure out how to drill and clip them.

Where's a good place to source a quality tube and caps for a 30cal?

Don’t know. It’s hard to keep up.

The group buy description says those will fit the DM and SPC tubes, and maybe others. Guess you could start there. 1.625” tubes could let you run a shorter can with similar internal volume.

DM = Diversified Machine
SPC = Super Precision Concepts

That's the thing. It's becoming another language... Lol. DM/SPC/ECCO... It's like text lexicon for cans... If you don't know what it stands for good luck. Google doesn't help much.

@Jeffncs - you should probably have Nick build you one like this. :D

From Nick’s Facebook:

“Another tubeless recore, but the largest one I've done to date - 1.75" x 12". Optimized for .458 SOCOM, it's quite large, but not terribly heavy. 100% 17-4 H900 like others, barely heavier than an AAC 7.62 SDN-6. The weight on the scale is with the direct thread mount installed.”

That thing doesn’t weigh much considering length and diameter! Ok... that sounds bad but I’m going to leave it for the fun of it!

Girth. That’s the word you’re looking for. :p

Ecco is very well respected in the form1 world!

I wouldnt hesitate to get a form1 approved and send him the tube and endcap.

For that large of a can............the weight is excellent.

He’s done at least some work on 8 of my 9 F1 cans.

...plus a cut/thread job on a couple barrels and even bored the ID of a handguard.

I ordered a C tube from Osok arms for a project I'm working on. Same stuff everyone else sells at about 2/3 the price. Ive bought a few tubes and end sets from them. Anyway I checked tracking a few times and it had stalled , meaning either it was lost in the mail or seized. I did a paypal resolution request and my money was immediately refunded. I got an email from the owner apologizing. Seems they had been raided by the ATF and all their inventory confiscated. He had sent a tube to Canada where they are apparently illegal and it got caught in customs and the ATF came in and seized everything.

Yeah, I know. Makes no sense. Thats what the guy at Osok said. It was just his turn to get picked on. I guess you dont want to piss off the hosers. Probably considered a ITAR violation.

No good. At least the ,22 can. I know a guy who built one. Very unhappy. Lousy design.

If anybody wanted to dip their toes into the Form 1 Silencer world...this would be a fairly inexpensive way to do it:

aluminum tubes and ends
stainless steel internals

Evidently they’re closing out those items and switching to Ti tubes.

Fwiw most of those if not all are repackaged Chinese wish kits. Only one I haven't seen from China is the modular but I'll bet it is too. 1/4 the price or less direct from China.

Probably so. But I’m assuming customs won’t be intercepting these. :D
