Restaurants are open!!!

I went to two of my favorite places tonight, both still doing take-out but not opening the dining room until Tuesday. Lotsa opportunity lost!

My local wasn't even open for take out at first 8 wks ago and I called them the other day to make sure their dinning room would be open Fri nite and they said NO and didnt know when it would be. I said OK, guess I will go spend my money somewhere else. Stoopid.

Quite a few restaurants chose to remain closed under restricted conditions. One of my favorites posted he will evaluate the opening in two weeks. To bring in prep people, inventory, crank up the freezers, coolers, and hvac you spread that cost against low revenue. Plus the bank looks at the opening and expects that mortgage or the leasing company wants it now and the “I will work with you” ceases.

Consider yourself of little knowledge if you make a statement like “some money is better than no money.” Those people think your cost are never higher than what you take in. No restaurant can make it on half their sales unless they own the building, own the equipment, and don’t have repairs.

Desperate people do desperate things, Like - go to work when they are sick. A sick ( contagious) person may show no symptoms for as much as 10 days. Some carriers show symptoms much like a common cold. Add OTC cold remedies can remain contagious and work. Its not the separation by 6 feet that worries me. Its the worker who can contaminate hundreds in a single day. I will be at home watching this evolve for a few more months,

And with this thinking, there should be hella body counts coming from the big box stores that hasn't slowed down one bit (if not even ramped up in volume) in the last three months. If anything at all, they have shown that this was an overblown reaction by the governments handlers.

Or the states that are already open like Georgia and Florida who haven't seen any new spikes and actually continue to decline in cases...

There is zero liability in spreading Chinese Flu for a restaurant. Nothing can be proved. Nothing. How many times has a restaurant been held liable for food poisoning? Almost none even though it happens daily. Cannot prove it. Yeah, yeah Chiplote was one but name the others. If you wandered thru kitchens and looked under equipment Chinese Flu would be down the list from reasons to eat at home. Being a commercial refrigeration tech I’ve seen bad cleanliness and even worse food prep sanitation.

Doesn't have to be proven, just have to have someone make enough noise about it. Look what happen to a restaurant that has an employee with Hepatitis or a low sanitation score. Makes the news, they call all the customers,...
If one employee gets COVID-19, they will have to shut down for two weeks to quarantine the staff and clean. I know a few restaurant and hair/ barber shops owner that are going to wait and let others be the canary.

Reactions: Me.
I always go back to that the reason for the quarantine and lockdown was not to keep people from getting it but rather to keep people from getting it all at once and flooding the hospitals. The number of people projected to get it and the number of people projected to die from it was not changed by the quarantine and shutdown but rather spread out over a longer time. The health officials have always assumed that we will all probably be exposed to it sooner or later. It would be difficult to remain unexposed to the virus unless it goes away before you contact it or unless you completely isolate yourself from all direct or indirect human contact. That would mean no mail, no meal deliveries, no carry out food, no visits from anyone who has had the slightest possibility of contacting it, no filling up your car at the gas station, no... I do not think the health officials are counting on the virus going away any time soon and I do not think they are counting on everybody in this country doing what is necessary to guarantee that they remain unexposed. They know that you will probably be exposed sooner or later, and your outcome will probably be the same whether you get it sooner or later.

Here in town, an employee got mad and quit her job at Whataburger. It was still operating as a drive through only. On her way out the door she said, "Oh yeah, and I've got the corona." Management reported her to the authorities. The restaurant was closed, all of the other employees had to be tested, and the entire store had to be sanitized.

Turns out, the girl was lying. Charges are being pressed. The store is back open now, drive through only.

Must be nice to be independently wealthy.

I hope you are right. I will be on the side lines waiting out the actual results.

I will be pretty much stuck at home for quite a while more through no choice of my own but will have to go out to get food, buy supplies, get carry-out food, and go to some other necessary places. I will handle things that other people have handled such as packages, money, mail, gas pumps, and the like. I will be around people who may very well be carrying this and other viruses without them knowing they are carriers. I will be around people who have been around people who have come from areas that have higher infection rates that we have had locally. Such minimal contact will probably expose me to the virus eventually. I am not under the illusion that I can avoid it and still provide for the necessities for my wife and me. I can try to minimize my risks but doubt I can eliminate all risks. Such is life.
