Price gouging

If things are getting hard to come by then that means the cost to restock a product skyrockets as well. Supply and demand.

The market dictates the price not the other way around.

Look at land prices, everybody wants to be a millionaire.

Based on my primer count and that company’s prices, I’m a multi-millionaire and didn’t even know it [emoji23]

Worse- I just got an order canceled for components. I'm a big believer in supply/demand, so if the price goes up I get it. But 500% is gouging. And- this same belief is why I stocked up when prices were low. I told my financial advisor that I was investing in non-precious metals (lead and brass!).

This is precisely why I bought so much in components the past 2yr and more so the 6mo leading up to the Corona panic. I was buying .223 and 9mm components when people were arguing about whether it’s worth it to reload them. It’s about the long game ;)

$150/k is beyond ridiculous though. There better be war in the streets, every street, before we get to that level.

1 round of reloaded9mm at todays prices:
15 cents for primer
1.2 cents Bullseye OOS
5cents bullet
assuming you have brass
21.2 cents a round for roll ya own.

This price is not really valid because I can't find BE.
At least the other components are available

Wow I know stuff is getting hard to come by but damn. 150$ for 1000 primers.

If folks are willing to pay $150/1K, I assure you they will continue to sell the primers for that price.

If folks are unwilling to pay that price, one of two things will happen...

The primers will set on the shelf or the business will lower them to a price folks are willing to pay.

And just like the last panic, manufacturers are not raising their prices, the gouging is being done at the wholesale and retail levels. But guarantee every LGS will blame it on the manufactures in front of their customers. Have had it told to me multiple times on product lines I know there has not been a price increase on. In time like this, sometimes I go to gun shops just to hear the lies.

If the primer is that expensive, the rest of the components will be soon too... So even without brass your price is about to be low...

Doesn't figure tool investment and time either. Time being the only truly valuable currency in life...

Kind of like only getting 3 wheels and tires for the truck....

A few years ago, I was at a LGS not far from where I live, they had primers on the shelf, prices were $39.95 per 1k. At that time, I could buy primers at the local gun shows for ~$28 per 1k. I told them I thought their prices were a little high (I like the guys there, I was trying to be nice). They said the usual "we have to sell them at that price to make a profit". I told them that they would not make any profit at all unless they did sell, otherwise they just have money tied up in inventory that isn't moving. I asked them when was the last time they sold any - blank stares. One of the owners got online and did a little price checking while I was standing there, and then he marked them down to $33.95, which was still higher than I could buy them for but not an unreasonable price.

So, yes, people will charge what the market will bear. I remember one guy from out-of-state coming to the Raleigh shows back in 2013, he was charging $40 per pound of Bullseye. He was also going around the show floor, before the doors opened, and buying up all the powder from the other vendors so he could eliminate any competition. Brandon from Blue Collar Reloading showed up, charging fair prices, and that other guy quit coming to the shows here. Free market works best when there is competition. People are free to charge anything they want, but I also have the freedom to buy from wherever I want, and I do remember the places that jacked prices and those that didn't. I will pay a little more during the good times to they guys that didn't jack prices during the bad times.

(Climbing down off my soapbox)

CCI a Powder Valley has been $35 @ 1000 + hazmat.

So really more like $.11 ;)

PS $.05 is low for bullets unless its cast. FMJ is costing me $ .076 but I am loading on $15@1000 primers.

Let’s see, I’m loading BE that was $10/lb using primers that were $10/k and blue bullets that were $.07. So where do I get $.05 bullets?

100% gouging but if people are willing to pay it then it is the free market. IMHO we love when the market is heavily weighted to the consumer giving us really low ammo and component prices. People do give a crap that when we are buying 9mm ammo at $.12 a round no one in the food chain selling that ammo is making money. Just like $450 S&W AR15s. As consumers we buy them up and say we got a deal. We don give a crap that they are selling us $20s for $10. Now that the tables have turned so many right leaning free market proponents are crying foul.

In the end we those who are smart have dollar cost avg'd components and factory ammo. They have enough to weather the storm and pick off deals here and there to keep the stock pile at reasonable levels. I personally am not going to turn around and sell all my 9mm factory ammo for todays prices because I am not one who thinks we should eat our own but those who do are only taking advantage of the market they have been given. It might be bit distasteful on an individual level but it is what it is.

I don't believe this place, ( mountain city supply Denver CO >Area code 303) is a legitimate business.

The web site has no other pages that I could find, so the main page is pushing over priced primers.

There is NO info listed for mountain city supply Denver CO or contact info on web site either.

I would HOPE no one placed or tried to place an order.

I think they set it up as a scam. I was looking at their page earlier and no address or nothing else.

My lead mixture runs about $1.20 per pound. So I can cast for 3 cents a round. Add a penny for tumble lube or PC. A penny for TiteGroup. 2-3 cents for brass. So about 8-9cents plus primer. Mine cost me 3 cents on average.

So 12 cents plus my time and effort... It's a good bit of effort to cast and load quality, safe ammo. So I only bother when I can't get ammo for under 25-30 cents per round.

How much bullseye are you looking For?

Wish the powers the be would suspend the “No negative comments” in the BST section for awhile. We’ve been inundated with new members who head straight for the classifieds with some laughable pricing.....

So don't buy it. And don't talk to them. They'll go away if their stuff doesn't sell.
