Long Range Bolt Gun

I went from nothing but an inherited single shot bolt 22 to 3 452s 2 455s and an Anschutz in about 6 months I think. At least they are cheaper than 2011s :)

Boy, that sure escalated quickly!!

Which Anz did you end up with?

Last week I had no rimfire bolt guns. Today, I have 3. So typical of me!

Bought the FV-SR because I couldn't find a 455 Tacticool and didn't want the threaded American. Ended up buying the threaded American because I just wanted a CZ. And today Tacticools come back in stock, so I had to have it...

Other than spending the $20 on a Yo-Dave spring and shim kit I'd recommend start buying your ammo by the case (5k). You will find yourself shooting these rimfires a LOT. Get yourself some different size targets for varying distances and enjoy!

1903. Single shot with match aperture sights. I haven't really tested it with different ammo to find what works best yet but it shoots better than I can with irons for sure.

And the 455 my daughter won :) Didn't count that one.

Just let me come buy that one and you can move on to something else ;)

I can't find a Tacticool in stock anywhere!
Check with Mace Sports...they're a CZ Dealer
Also, the Tacticool is now called the Pro Varmint.

Start trying high quality ammo to see what your guns like. Little Hardware tends to stock some of the good stuff. Cabelas tends to have some Eley on the shelves and of course you can find premium ammo online at various web stores

We need to get out to the range together as I've been wanting to do more longer range rimfire as well

Man yeah! Let's do it. I've been shooting by myself so far. All of my shooting buddies are into the fast and furious games and have no interest in anything else. I'm sure I could learn a lot from you!

You need a can. These things are twice as fun with a can.

I have a can made just for this stuff, but no gun to put it on, lol!

You should do whatever you can to get @Studentofthegun to hook you up with shooting his paint ball rack.

Blowing up paintballs at 50 yards is just about as fun as it seems like it would be!

Another fun thing that requires hardly any cleaning up is NECCO wafer candy. You just take a 1x4 and route a 1/4" wide 1/8" deep groove length wise and it holds NECCO wafers on edge. About 30 wafers per 99¢ roll at Cracker Barrel.

This was tonight's adventure. At 150 yards of course. Lighting was pretty poor and once the orange sticker was gone it presented a new challenge. I'm totally kicking myself for ignoring magnified optic rifle shooting all of this time! By far the most relaxing shooting I've ever done!

Man I need a bolt 22.... Only 22s I have are ruger 10/22s. I had a nice savage, can't remember the model but it had a long heavy none threaded barrel with a nice wood stock. Hit 2" steel all day at 100yds. Should have never sold it....

(Edit) It was the mark ii TR model that had. Loved that rifle.... Gah should have never sold it..... Great now I'm going to look at 22 rifles tomorrow. Yal suck! ;)

People that aren't familiar with CZ rimfire bolt guns don't believe you can smoke those mini paint balls at 50 yards. And they are downright incredulous when you explain to them that you can cut golf tees in half at that same distance. ;)

Any of you guys have pictures of the paintball target holder thingy? Sounds interesting.

Not sure if this is his as I forgot where I lifted the image from but I kept this one for motivation to build a similar rack

Please report back with how you like it. Really wish they made one in all black.

So, I got the AT-One stock in last week. Finish quality on the stock is great. Check rest operates smoothly, length of pull adjustment button is very stiff but they say this is intentional so that it doesn't accidentally adjust.

The rifle I bought it for was a CZ 452 trainer. Boyd's didn't list this as an option and I was hoping it would work without modification. Of course it didn't fit so I have Joel Pendergraft in Chapel Hill milling it to fit. I'll share some pictures when I get it back from him. I plan to shoot it Saturday before heading to the Alamance CFF meet up.

Yessir that's the rack I built. It holds 54 paintballs.

I did learn a couple important things making that. Number one is to use the straightest 2x4s you can find. Number 2 is to avoid leaving it out in the weather. Both are for the same reason. Don't want anything to warp or twist the rack lest your paintballs not want to stay on your golf tees.

It also doesn't work so great if it is super windy. I've tried to shoot before when the wind was so strong it blew the paintballs off the tees. Wind that bad doesn't make for good rimfire shooting in general.

Here's a write up I did on the stand.

https://studentofthegun.wordpress.com/2015/05/24/reactive-target-rack-for-22lr-fun/

We got on a kick there for several years where just about all we did was shoot little stuff with .22s and giggle like school girls. We went through the usual iterations. Shot flies, grapes, golf balls, even bits of dry dog food. And every kind of silly paper target you can think of.

Eventually we moved to suppressed .22s and looked askance at those "loud" shooters who forced us to actually wear hearing protection.

One Saturday I went through 750 rounds of Eley in my CZ. And the funny part is I only had one five round magazine. That's what happens when you get bit by the .22 bug.

Then I went to my first rimfire speed steel match and have only done the bench rifle thing once since then. What can I say. Addictions are enjoyable.

I just realized that I have six threaded .22 rifles. And I am practically your neighbor.

Good idea on the paintballs. I was stumped on how you held them. Seems so simple now. I've got a rack of steel targets that I laser cut at work. It's set up at 30 yds in the front yard so my little boy can have fun ringing them. I'm going to set up some longer range (and smaller) stuff this weekend.

Nice. What are smallest and largest sizes?

They are the same as you already have for the match (6" , 5" , 4" , & 3") except the two on the left (12" & 9"). All are Magnum Targets IDPA knockovers without the base plate. I had a local fabricator weld a J-hook of round bar on the back for hanging off of "M" shaped holders. Here are all the targets on a 1"x 1" grid.

Decided to do some ammo testing with a few different varieties that I could find locally.

CCI SV
CCI Quiet
Federal Premium HV
Aguila SV
Eley Club
Eley Target

All testing was done at 50 yards off of a plastic folding table from Lowe's with a Caldwell bipod and a Protek hard bottom rear bag. Temps were about 82 degrees with 85% sunny skies. 5 shot groups shot back to back with the only break to load the magazine.

Much to my delight my gun prefers the cheap stuff, CCI SV! The Aguila SV and Eley Target were both good as well. The Aguila seems to be going cheap right now so I may pick up a case or two of it for practice. I also plan to try some other brands as well as soon as I come across them being sold in single boxes. I don't want to pay $65+ for a brick that my gun doesn't like.

As for the gun, I simply could not be happier with it. My only complaint is that I didn't get one 4 years ago when I first started shooting. I have learned so much in just a few days! The optic has done everything I could ask of a $200 optic and whole lot more! Admittedly I'm a PA fan but I call things as I see them and this scope is pretty dang awesome in the eyes of this newbie.

I have ordered another scope just like this for my CZ 455 Tacticool. Most folks say the CZ's are superior to the Savage, and while I'm a bit of CZ fan boy, I'm going to have to see that to believe it! The Savage just seems to keep getting better!
