At 8PM last night a motorist was attacked by a woman with a machete at the corner of Brier Creek and Glenwood.
She broke the passenger side window of his vehicle, screamed at him and threatened him With the machete.
Unfortunately, she left before the police arrived.

My wife is at that intersection a few times each day.

A few weeks ago there was an issue in the Parking lot of the Brier Creek movie theater.
WTF is wrong with Raleigh?

When seconds count minutes are not acceptable…

That is the Durham side of Raleigh ;)

There’s nut jobs everywhere.

Brier Creek and Glenwood intersection seems to have more than it's fair share of vehicle incidents lately as well. Been a few rather serious crashes, even a few fires afterwards.

Apparently no one can drive there either.

Don't forget the Dookies that got robbed at gunpoint after the recent games. The entire "triangle" is rapidly sliding down the scale with the recent growth.

How bad is the area directly around the Durham Bulls stadium and aloft hotel?

Possibly the safest area of Durham, except for that fact that all tenants at ATC are required to post no firearms.

The area right around these is relatively nice. A few tweakers wandering around. Go a few blocks east and it gets sketchy, fast.
Good my wife is going there for a week for work.

We live in the burbs of WakeCo. House next to us flipped a year or so ago and the new owners even though they spent a lot of money buying it and spent a lot of money fixing it up, put off a bad vibe to me anyway. Yesterday about 4pm my wife starts hollerin' "There's a man with a gun out in the street and he's pointing it at 2 other men face down in the ditch." We called 911 and were told to get in line. They already had several calls about the same thing. Blue BMW parked on the road we had seen come and go before. 6 WakeCo deputies and 4 hrs later, they cuff somebody and and ride off. The guy holding the gun was my neighbor. I dont know if he went to jail or one of the guys in the ditch. Been trying to get my wife to agree to sell and move ever since the day they moved in. Now I have to carry to the mail box and when putting the garbage cans on the street.

Brier Creek used to be a decent area. It’s gotten sketchier in the last few years. I don’t linger around there any more.

Did this occur at an intersection or in a parking lot?

If it happened at an intersection time to review defensive skills while in a running vehicle … not common today … YET

The immediate surroundings of the ballpark, American Tobacco Campus, and the downtown core to the north should be fine. East, south, or any further north than downtown is no-go, especially after dark, unless you are familiar with and prepared for inner city risks.

West from downtown on Main St. towards Brightleaf Square, Duke east campus (nice place to Walk or run), and Ninth St are generally good, with the exception of a homeless cluster at the Episcopal Church on Main near Ninth where there have been several aggressive folks.

Defensive skills starting with driving away from the machete-wielding crazy person.
Or over.

luckily she literally just has to walk across the street to her office.

What if you are boxed in? I’ve taught my family to leave enough room (basic rule use to be stop far enough behind the vehicle to be able to see the rear tires of the vehicle in front of you) go around the vehicle in front of you. Turning right and GTFA is a smart choice but at larger intersections where you’re turning left with a vehicle on one side and oncoming traffic on the other (like Brier & Glenwood in many lanes) it might not be an option.

Defensive driving years back to be about looking out for bad drivers and avoiding their stupidity … now defensive driving w/ defensive skills from attacks is becoming just as important. I preach keep off the phone, keep radio volumes to a moderate level, know what vehicles are around you, etc … just like any other situational awareness scenario when you’re not in a vehicle. Robberies, carjackings or worse have jumped since Defund the Police and “woke” prosecution has blossomed so a person sitting strapped in a vehicle not really paying attention to roadside threats because “they’re door is locked”.

Is she in the Crowe-Fowler building? If so walking over there is mostly a wide open area with plenty of visibility. My 16 year old worked at the ballpark last season and never had an issue walking over there after dark.

It's the same building as the tabacco road sports grill it looks like. Literally across the street from the hotel.

Might not be, I agree, but all I said is that driving away is a defensive skill to start with. :) I think a danger for a lot of us who take the trouble to carry our pistols all the time is that the solution that occurs to us when thinking of a problem like this typically involves the gun, and a lot of the time it really just calls for the gas pedal, and maybe a willingness to ding up your car or someone else's, if necessary. (I am definitely not suggesting pulling out into oncoming traffic doing 45 MPH!) The point is that the more tools in the toolbox, the better, and I think we agree on that.

It's full of crackheads and criminal scum?

Obama Care, and no mental health hospitals to lock up the crazies.

We have the streets full of crazy people, if you do not know who your local crazy person is, look in a mirror. LOL

Honestly, the insane are running loose and wild.

Did you know that 38.4% of American women are taking a mental health drug? This stat runs the whole spectrum of mental health medicine. The scary part is 61.6% of women are undiagnosed and among us at intersections with machetes.

What's your point?
That the left, the leftist voting public, and their leftist leadership are a problem.

Let’s discuss.

And if your Hellcat sold, I hope you’ll go back and mark it sold.

Please post a link as I am having trouble finding any reference to this incident.

Yeah, they're the problem. You're a hilarious. You should take your show on the road.

I'll mark it sold when it's sold, thank you.

There are people on here who have been talking to each other and knowing each other for a decade. You’ve had an account here for seven months and have four posts, and presume to call out a long time member. Good luck with that.

That housing development west of 9th and north of Hillsborough is very sketch. A bunch of weirdos. 😉

Asking "what's your point?" is calling you out? Wow, what thin skin you must have. Being a so-called "long-time member" to a public forum makes you better than newer members?

What Fieldgrade said is exactly my point. The bleeding heart liberal left, who are largely Democrat voters, are the majority of the problem. Democrat run cities have a higher instance of violent crime in nearly every instance. Detroit, Chicago, Seattle, SF, NY, Atlanta, come to mind. Locally, Greensboro, Charlotte, Winston, RDU.

I'm going to make an early prediction here.

Didn’t take long for them to rattle you. Good luck

Are there any cities of significant size that are more right-leaning?

Yes, unfortunately the worst of the worst in our country are Democrat run cities, like the ones that Les has mentioned. But Im curious if we have any Republican run cities we could compare to.

Lemme try breaking it down a bit more.
In the 8 months you've been here, you most likely have seen more than once that we're much more than a forum, we're a community.
Folks here have been getting together shooting, breaking bread, helping out in good and hard times for a long time. We give each other crap, encourage one another, and many would show up when in need. I haven't been here that long and have met well over 100, and have phone #'s and addresses for over 75 of these fine fellas.
Realize you're in someone's living room, read the room.
