Hey guys,

The Concord Gun Show is this weekend. We will be there at the Backwoods Bang Shop booth. Drop by and see us!

Also, I've been thinking of a way to answer the questions that I've been receiving from y'all via pm's and phone calls about the Asheville Gun Show (which is also going on this weekend). As most of y'all know, we were always at the Asheville show every time the show was held. After the last show, we were approached by the promoter and asked not to come back to the show. He said that a few other gun dealers had came to him and complained that we were selling guns cheaper than they could buy them for at the wholesale level. He said that if he let us come back to the show, then the other dealers were going to withdraw from the show and not return. As a businessman, he didn't want to loose 30 tables versus our 8 tables. He named names of the dealers and it wasn't a surprise as we hear the same stuff at every show we work.

With that being said, we do not wish any ill will on anyone but we will no longer be working the Asheville show unless we are asked back by the promoter.

We sincerely thank all of you that have supported us at the Asheville Show over the years (and all the other shows as well). We will still be going as far West as Hickory and we will still be happy to ship to your FFL dealer regardless.

With that being said, come on our to Concord this weekend and see us! Thanks!

Who else is going?

At the May WS show, I noticed the other sellers had significantly reduced their prices between Saturday morning and Sunday afternoon. I still bought from Jerek.

The promoter may learn a very valuable lesson. My experience with wholesale trade shows (lots of this experience all over the world but surely not to be compared with consumer gun shows) is that it's the vendors that attract visitors. Once gun buyers discover they can't get the goods they want at the prices they expect, they may not return. Trying to manipulate the market could become fatal for the promoter AND the vendors of goods that don't overlap with Backwoods. I'll bet a bunch of them corner the promoter Sunday afternoon to demand, "Where the **** is Backwoods?

The concord show is this weekend?

Per the OP...

Hey guys,

Figured I'd leave one after tomorrow, to at least act like I showed up and noticed Jerek missing. :D

I'm tempted to post that I went to buy from Backwoods and when I found them missing, I left (not buying anything from anybody) and spent all my money at the Concord show.

;)

@knifeman32,

Hope you guys knock it out of the park at Concord. We just heard about the Asheville thing with you today when we set up. We'll miss you this weekend!

I'm glad you're choosing the right show. About damn time Birkenstock Village lost some of it's luster. My coworker is alway telling me how great the Asheville show is. He's going to the range with me tomorrow and we will swing by afterward ;)

I'd sure like the names of those dealers in order to make sure that I don't accidentally do business with a freakin' Commie or Socialist....

I don't have a dog in the Ashville show but I'd like to know this as well. I maybe unknowingly supporting one of these asses.
If the promoter had approached me the same way there would have been some choice words exchanged. Without having to look it up who was the promoter??
I'm not a gun show junkie (quit going years ago) but when I see the same crap, at the same tables, with the same vendors over and over again why should I go?? It's gotten to be some kind of club with these old bastards. I guess it's the only way for them to get out of the house and away from the old hag for a day or two.

Not seeing yours. Wonder if they have to approve them first? There are some low scores, so maybe they let everything through?
They do moderate them, but this is an independent site so I would hope it gets posted.

Worst show I've been to in years. Last time I'll hit that one. I'll just wait for the Charlotte show form now on.

Have to edit to add this:

Backwoods Bang Shop bent over backwards to try and hook me up with a mag for my LLAMA IX-A. Thanks for the effort, time and the tip on what to look for. Glad to have met you today.

Just now left mine (~11:25p on Sat), but still not seeing Don's online. Maybe they don't moderate them on the weekends? It did give me a heads up that it would be reviewed when I submitted it.

Gave 1/2 star for selection, 3 for location, and 1 for overall...and left this:

Very disappointed. Went to show today, only to find out my favorite regular dealer wasn't there. No Backwoods Bang Shop to be found. Did a little research and it sounds like Backwoods' owner was asked by the promotor to not come back. Seems like multiple other dealers whined about not being able to match his prices. So much for a free enterprise system. I won't step foot back into another MK Show unless I verify in advance BBS will be there. :(
...and I'll be making sure all my acquaintances understand how this guy runs his shows, so it'll be more than just me not showing back up.

:D

Hopefully Concord is treating you well, just don't think I'll make it over there tomorrow.

The following review was posted there yesterday. So, somebody's moderating over the weekend.

It was a good show until they told certain vendors not to come back because others were complaining their prices were too low. Its all fun and games until you manipulate the free market.

Hmmmm....

Decided to boycott the Asheville show and went to Concord Sunday instead. Glad I did. It was a small show, but several larger dealers there with good selection. One of my favorite knife dealers was there, Georgia Arms was there, and even a new (to me) company selling steel targets. Sold my M&P that I just bought, bought a couple of mags from Back Woods Bang Shop, bought some homemade cookies and a raffle ticket. Good show. Even managed to leave with the proceeds from the sale in my wallet.

I don't plan to go back to the Asheville Show or any Mike Kent show for that matter. I think I'll miss the coated cashews from the nut lady in the back corner the most....

Interesting report...thanks.

I was looking for steel targets and couldn't find much of a selection at the two most recent WS shows. I ended up buying some on EBay and I'm satisfied with them.

Don't excuse the promoter, he is culpable also. If we really wanted to make a statement, we should setup outside the show and distribute flyers explaining to the patrons the type of collusion occurring to ensure their money isn't worth as much at this venue.

Thank all of you for the support. It is greatly appreciated. We have a ton of loyal customers across the state. I sincerely apologize to those that buy from us that are from the Asheville area. We would have certainly been there for years to come if we were welcome at the show.

My review still hasn't posted. Don't believe Don's has, either.

How did I now know about this?!

I figured Jerek's absence was from his medical issues, not some crap from the promoter. I usually go just to walk around and bird dog the private sales, I'll need to give even that some consideration going forward.

Note: edited title to show year, so (hopefully) nobody gets too confused :D

Yeah, I had boycotted Asheville for a while due to this issue. However, since Jerek's current absence from all shows, due to his illness and all that comes with it, I've allowed myself to return to the Asheville show. However, I've aware of at least two or three of the dealers who were apart of this and I won't buy anything from them:)
