I really don't understand this attitude. There is literally a whole section of this forum dedicated to BST just as there are sections dedicated to other things. Some people are just not very talkative but still want to participate is buying and selling. If they're making posts in the wrong section then that's breaking the rules which can be dealt with by the mods; but as long as they're staying in the right section (which wouldn't be making the whole forum into a BST venue) then what's the problem? And why do some of you feel the need to insult others just because they have different interests than you?

Know why 200+ members immediately joined this site within two days following its inception?
Know why the active membership here has mostly stuck together for over a decade across three different iterations of Carolina based firearms forums?
Know why we have a network of people across the Carolinas willing to help each other?

This is not your typical gun forum, its a community. A community that happens to have a BST section. A community which has been flooded with armslist refugees looking for a free place to peddle their goods. I don't have a problem with that per se as we've gotten some good blood added to the site though that migration. However, we've also received a number of dirtbags who seemingly have no morals when it comes to buying/selling thus the sharp uptick in negative feedback threads over the past year or two. Add into this, folks who cannot be bothered to take the time to read stickies and rules or folks who try to circumvent said rules. It's not hard to understand why some members may have a slightly bitter taste in their mouth toward new folks who only want to camp in the BST section.

If someone here wants to spend all their time browsing the BST or bumping their sell/sail/sale ad(s) I'm perfectly fine with it. They just shouldn't be surprised when some members look at them as nothing more than wondering gypsies.

You've been here a year and have 73 posts, 38 of those posts were bumping one of your For Sale ads. If you join in on discussions people will get to know you and it will make it easier to sell things. @hp468 made a very good post explaining how many members feel. We are a very close group but, we welcome new people to our forum. Join in and get to know us and we'll get to know you.

At the top of our home page is this: "Welcome to CFF..........We're SO MUCH MORE than a firearms forum !"

I don't have a lot of posts because I'm introverted and as a general rule I don't like to talk a whole lot. Whether or not I am able to sell something on this forum is not that big a deal to me. My issue is the attitudes of some of you long time members. Why do you have such a big problem with people like me who don't like to talk as much as you? Not everyone is as outgoing or talkative and that's a rather ridiculous thing to criticize someone over. Your "very close group" as you put it doesn't seem to be very welcoming to people of differing personalities. In fact, it's starting to remind me of a high school like clique where you either act like everyone else or it's made clear that you're not wanted. How very welcoming.

Or maybe they just have poor reading comprehension.

I’d take a swipe at this noob, but I just spent 90 minutes on the phone with my sister, discussing our 89 year old mother, after talking with my wife about it earlier this evening for an hour, so I’m done debating with women for tonight.

I have participated in other topics but I guess it's not enough for you. Would you care to explain to me what rule says that I must make x amount of posts a month to not be considered a freeloader? Because I haven't seen it.

Ten years ago and about 50,000 posts ago I posted a very nice old shotgun for sale in this community, 3-4 iterations of this forum ago.

The shotgun sold and I volunteered $20 to be a member, because I liked the place.

You appear to feel differently.

The door to this place swings both ways. I’ve been in and out of it a few times over the years.

Judging from your posts, you might prefer someplace else.

The whole point of requiring a certain amount of posts before one could PM was to do with the scammers.

I'd say 98% of the people complaining about the new rule are here using the site for FREE and fairly new accounts with low post counts.

Technically, you became a freeloader when you posted your first BST post without being a paid member.

@RedFox099, we have no issues with people with different interests than us. The CFF has so many different sub-forums that there is something for everyone! From guns, cooking, cars, and motorcycles to gardening (and many, many more). There are sub-forums that I do not participate in because the topic doesn't interest me.

You may be missing some context to what many members here have been trying to say. We don't even care if the person has an entirely different view on controversial topics. As long as the member debates the merits of their argument like an adult, it's all good, no matter their opinion. Many of the long-time members are just asking for new members to please contribute to the betterment of the community overall with substantive input. I understand that you and many others are introverts. I know and have worked with many in my life. Just because you don't like talking a lot does not mean you cannot add substantive content. Especially in the firearms sections! I mean, this is a firearms forum, so I hope the people who sign up to be members at least share that in common with the rest of us. You or they do not have to write a book to contribute. For example, when someone asks for input on a handgun. If you have that handgun, a simple "I own that handgun. It shoots nice, fit and finish are great, but it's really heavy. If you are getting it for concealed carry, you may want to take the weight into consideration." It doesn't take much to contribute, is what I'm trying to say.

Poor reading comprehension is another point of contention. There is post after post of new members not reading the rules for the BST ads. It gets old for the staff to continue to deal with people that don't read the rules and who come here just to use the free BST section without contributing to our community. We do like getting new members to the forum. Just like anything new, be it a job or sports activity, we ask that the new people become familiar with our community's culture. I have had jobs in the past that had what I felt were unhealthy cultures. I did not stay at those jobs long. If the culture of our community does not fit with your's or anyone's ideals, we do not beg nor hold a gun at anyone's head to make them stay. It's that simple, we just don't like people using our community as their own personal Arms List unless they pony up and become a vendor and/or sponsor. What differs in those scenarios is that you have contributed to the well-being of our community. Thank you for contributing with more than, "I can't post in the BST ads" or "I can't send someone a private message, and they have something for sale that I want."!
