I’m contemplating a small paint project on part of motorcycle fairing lowers that are made of either ABS or some sort of composite fiberglass that have been factory painted with primer (I expect), acrylic urethane, and clear cost. As an aside, this will be the lower half of the lowers that will catch a lot of road debris over time and get beat up with chips, and probably get repainted at a later point if I keep the bike.
The question is, do I need to take the factory finish down to the plastic/composite or just rough it up enough to hold paint? I’ll be painting with gloss black acrylic urethane. This is a somewhat inconspicuous location compared to the other painted parts on the bike, so I don’t want to overthink this (which is my usual way).
Thanks in advance.
