For CCW I prefer DA/SA semiautomatic pistols and carry hammer down. I’m looking to size-down from a .45. What I’ve found so far are the HK P2000SK, CZ 2075 RAMI (discontinued and hard to find in 9mm), or a Walther PPKs.

Is anyone carrying 380?

HK P30SK is the smallest DA/SA 9MM I can think of at the moment. A little bigger you get the Sig P239, or a CZ P-01, or P-07.

HK P30, PX4 storm, 92 or centurion version if shorter slide desired, CZ P09/07. tons of great options. The P30/P2000 are the only I’ve managed to not corrode during summertime from my sweat.

3 best choices for SA/DA

those are 3 of the smallest options. not sure about best. The storm subcompact is a waste and doesn’t utilize the rotating barrel system of the compact and full size PX4. The P30sk is an extremely challenging pistol to shoot well. It makes a decent ankle pistol that’s about it. With the correct holster and belt a P30L is easily concealable.

the P07/09 is a well designed pistol. The omega trigger is far more robust than traditional CZ75 design. Unfortunately most of us who run the P07/P09 enough go through trigger return springs like crazy. My carry P07 requires frequent slide disassembly due to continuous corrosion of the firing pin block and firing pin channel. The HK pistols are somewhat awkward compared to the CZ’s but they’re far more robust and better finished.

Why is it a “waste”?
What difference does the locking mechanism make?

The 30L is a monster, Glock 17 size except only 15 rounds vs 17. IDK what holster you are thinking about that can pull that magic off.

Springfield XDE.

Its quite thin, similar in size to a s&w shield. Discontinued but it wasn't very popular so I think there's a glut on the used market.

I got one of these for my dad to try to get him to stop "decocking" his kimber ultra carry 1911 thingy and carrying it hammer down. He won't carry the XDe. I tried!

it's a funky gun for sure, but I still like it.

Ed's down in Vass had one in the used case last week.

tiny barrel. marginal capacity. thickness of full size pistol. recoil impulse of rotating barrel is pleasant and facilitates short split times.

the P30/P30L now hold 17 +1, not 15. HK released 17 round mags sometime around 2019 ish. I carry a G17 and a P30L AIWB every day and can fall asleep with them on. My preferences are JMCK rigs but others work well too such as tenicor, dark star gear. a S&W 629 with 6” barrel is a monster, not a 9mm.

P30 on left. p30L on right. The L actually carries better due to extra length. I use the P30L holster for the P30.

fellow XDE fan. My 3.3” model has been flawless. If the safety operated only as a decocker it would be even better. Tragically undervalued pistol. If HS produkt designed a full size hammer fired 9mm I’d be all over it.

I am probably an average shooter, and have no problems shooting the P30sk decently out to about 15 yards or so. I haven‘t really shot it much past that, but will give it a whirl next time out. I find it to be a good shooting gun for its size. I used to have a CZ Rami and the P30sk won out when I shot them both. Guess guns are like cars and women. Different strokes for different folks.

On the XDE, Jim’s Pawn and Guns in Wilmington had 5 or so new ones at a reduced price the last time I was in there a month ago. They’ve been there at least 6 months if I remember right.

Not to high-jack the thread, but have you tried this as a rust preventive? https://www.corrosionx.com/collecti...ol/products/corrosionx?variant=30930717966432
Since I started using it, I haven't had any rust problems.

Mine has been fine, reliable, not super accurate but not bad.

I just wish I could delete the safety and just have the decocker.

Also, mine is the 9mm, but it's plain to see the it was designed to be a .45. The grip/magwell has some thick plastic. I just think they could redesign it with the new micro 9 stack and a half mags and get a bunch more capacity.

Second for the P30 series. I used to carry a G19 like the rest of the world, but now rotate between a P30L and a HK45C. The P30L carries significantly better than the G19 ever did. Something about the rounded grip shape make it deceptively easy to hide. Add a grey guns trigger short reset plate and it has a fantastic trigger.

What about the P99C AS?

Takes larger P99 mags. Compact and light. Large paddle mag release.
And that button next to the rear sight? Turns it from single action to double action.
Single action : 4.5 lbs and really short reset
Double action : 9lbs

What’s the trigger like on that Walther? My first CCW gun was an M&P 9mm compact and the trigger was like throwing a football, I will never touch another S&W semiauto after that

Pretty good. Happy to let you try mine out if you'd like.

Walther has produced some of the best out-of-the-box standard triggers of any manufacturer in recent years. And those triggers were essentially single-action versions of the double-action/single-action Anti-Stress trigger system Walther pioneered in the P99 over a quarter of a century ago. The AS trigger system allows: a long, heavy DA pull; a long, light SA pull; a short, light SA pull, and; the ability to easily move back and forth between the different trigger modes.

Unfortunately, the Compact version of the P99 has been discontinued and the P99 itself has transitioned to a Final Edition model before it is also discontinued.

In additional to Walther's P99, Walther previously entered partnerships to produce the SW99 (including a compact model) with Smith & Wesson and the MR9 with Magnum Research. Canik in Turkey has also produced a number of P99 clones and variants.

I’m reading online that the HK P30sc can take a 20 round mag 🤣
I carry two 17 round reloads for the VP9SK which is the same size (and takes the same magazines) as the P30SK.

Big vote for the PX4 Compact Carry done up by Langdon. It’s a chunky girl, but is an amazing shooter. The reset and single action is on par with my langdon and Wilson 92G, and I actually think it has a nicer double action pull. That says a lot. The rotating barrel makes it’s a soft shooter as well. If you can deal with the thickness, it is a real winner. I prefer it to my P01, PCR, 92 compact and 229 for carry.

You can get 20 round factory mags for the p30/l, vp9 to carry as backups also. It's just the 17 with a plus 3 on it from what i see. They are pricey but they work.
