Stripper Clips?!

Do you guys use them to store your ammo on? If so, where do you get them?!

I am going through and reorganizing ammo cans/boxes/etc. and decided I'd like to put all the loose ammo on stripper clips. There are obviously many places to buy them online, ranging from $0.09 per clip to $0.25 per clip depending on if the are "new" or "once-emptied" and how many you buy at a time. Some include the "spoons" and others cardboard boxes/dividers.

Are there any general guidelines for buying these things or just go with the cheapest?

I've got several hundred off eBay. They're fairly cheap. Make sure you get the magazine loader for them. I bought a bunch of them also
 
Go with the cheapest. They are wear items. The little tabs on the ends, after so many times of folding them and opening them, will break off. Some get slightly twisted, some get loose and the rounds drop out. Usually those issues can be fixed with a multi-tool (bend it or squeeze it tight, accordingly), but once that brass tab goes, I toss it. I've got a couple thousand rounds stored on them.
 
Just saw the first word of the title. Not what I was expecting. I use the clips. Store ammo on them too. Like said above use until little clips break and toss. I get a metric chit ton of them from the gun show.
 
I have my ammo generally sorted into 2 types, one is my "SHTF" style stash and the other is my general use. In my SHTF stash I have my brass cased M855 and 193 on stripper clips, some in an ammo can, and I also have two bandoliers filled with it. The rest is my general use plinking and competition ammo that is cheaper steel cased stuff that I just leave in the boxes and load magazines on the go.

In short, they wont hurt and can make loading easier. But I don't go crazy with them.

And yes, make sure you keep a loading spoon in each bandolier/ammo box if you do decide to buy some.
 
Forgive my ignorance:

What is the point of sticking rounds on strippers? Can they strip off right into a GI mag, sorta Garand style?
Or is just for the convenience of grabbing it/handling it?

Seems like it's more difficult than just loading the mags though, but seems like a good option if you don't have many mags, or purchase them on the clips. For my use anyway.

I generally just hand load magazines because I have all the time in the world to do so. The original intention, I assume, was so that soldiers could easily fill magazines before a mission or during from their bandoliers. As far as storage goes, it is a pretty nice way to both save space over just putting the boxes of ammo away, and makes it easier to count the ammo you have. Again, its nothing earth shattering or revolutionary for us in the civilian world, but heck...its another gun thing we can play with.

i (re)load my stripper clips while watching football and drinking beer. Beats the hell out of loading mags round by round when time is a factor at the range or when you need to reset your gear before the next stage. I bought a couple hundred a few years ago and have reloaded them many times each. If you buy quality the first time around they will last a long time.

Certainly not. Only possible downside is your range sessions could be a lot shorter because you barely have to spend any time at all reloading and can burn through ammo pretty quick.

The adapter is the secret. The only ammo I have on stripper clips is an ammo box partially full of green tips I was given.

I do have a loaded I was given that shoves them all in similar to that, but it only holds 20. Plus, you'd have to reload it each time...as opposed to the stripper clips where you can load a ton of them up ahead of time.

But, if you had just loaded magazines, you are taking one step out of the process, no?
Like night before a match, I load up whatever the round count will be in several magazines. It seems like loading pmags is easier than loading stripper clips, which then have to be stripped off into your mags again. So, no matter which way you go, you are loading into something.

I'll just stick to loading mags. To each their own! Now, if I were to purchase a ton of ammo and it came on stripper clips, then I can see the value. But I have enough mags to just load the mags themselves and cut out the middle man so to speak. I am sure the clips work great, maybe just not for me.

This is similar to what I do.

20 or so mags loaded (brass cased)
Stripper clips and bandoliers in 50cal cans (brass cased)
Everyday range/match stuff loose in a 30cal can (steel cased)
Some reloaded long range in plastic
