My first handgun ( that I found out later I got for a steal ) was this basically NOS Star Model 30MI. I paid 280 for this beauty back in 2021 after getting in touch with its owner on another forum while trying to inquire about a S&W 5904 that had unfortunately already sold, but when he offered me this tank that I had never heard of, I have since gotten lost in a rabbit hole of old defuct manufacturers & importers.
As far as I am aware I am the 3rd owner of this firearm as the previous owner had received it from a friend as a gift. Up until getting into my hands it had never been shot.
This thing is INDESTRUCTIBLE to say the least, the only malfunctions I've ever had with this gun after some 300-400 rounds were induced by sketchy aftermarket mags. Magazine compatibility for old Star Pistols is their main draw back, seeing as Star went out of business in the late 90's ( shortly followed by InterArms, the importer for Star Pistols into the US ) but they can still be had if you look in high places. I bought my first 2 spares from Numrich, they were unbranded aftermarket magazines for the Star Model 28 ( functionally the same as a Model 30 ), one Magazine works well enough but while testing the other it does not seat properly causing feeding issues. My problem was fixed this past Christmas when my girlfriend bought me 2 newly produced Promag 10 rounders made specifically for my gun and since then I've had no issue with them.
I'm in love with this pistol and it's my main carry gun at the moment. Maybe that has to do with it making 9mm feel like .22 or maybe it's that mine is marked as " StarFire " which is not only just a cool moniker but also a pretty rare importer marl on the gun which significantly raises its value. Either way it's never leaving my possession so long as I live and I'm currently searching for more Star's as we speak.
If you have any Star's drop em in the comments below! 🫡
