Lets play sniper this month ....

CFF_May_2018_sniper-target_300x194.jpg

Standard CFF Monthly Rimfire Benchrest Challenge Rules
- Target Size: Standard 8 1/2 x 11 paper - Choose the "Print to fit" option when printing.
- Target distance: 50 yards
- Any shooting position you'd like
- Front rests, bipods, front/rear shooting bags, bunny ears, ... etc. are all ok.
- No full length rifle mechanical rail/sled type rests allowed
- Iron sights or optics of your choice are all allowed
- All done on the honor system. Shoot it, score it, post it.
- Winner chooses the target and challenge for the next month.
- Post copy of your target, setup, where shot, and score

Scoring:
- 10 targets on the page - 1 standard bullseye target and 9 bad guy/good guy targets. Each has a bad guy with "+" points and a good guy with "-" points. Goal is to hit the bad guy.
- 1 shot per target
- Bad guy hits add to your total score
- Good guy hits subtract from your total score
- Breaking any part of the highest plus score or minus score ring gets the higher value. If you break a +10 line you get +10 points. If you break a -10 line you get -10 points.
- Since the primary goal is to hit the bad guy if you hit both a bad guy zone and a good guy zone then the bad guy score (highest value) is counted. This goes along with the "highest value" method - +10 is higher than -7 for example.
- Tie breaker - To encourage a "go for it" attitude the total number of bad guy head shots (+10 points or +5 points areas) will be used for the tie breaker. The center most circle in the 10 zone of the standard bullseye target (commonly known as the X area) counts as a tie breaker bad guy head shot. As such there are a 10 possible tie breaker points available.
- Tie Breaker 2 - If there is an equal number of tie breaker head shots then the head shots score will be counted to break that tie. Same scoring method as above - highest ring value is the score you get - a head shot in the head 10 ring will count as 10 points and in the head 5 ring will count as 5 points towards the 2nd level tie breaker. As such there are a 100 possible 2nd level tie breaker points available.

Not sure where I got this target so the PDF file is uploaded here.

Let the games begin and good luck ladies and gentlemen!

I did not realize we could upload PDF files like that. Makes life much simpler. Thanks for posting @mike59

Nothing wrong with repeats!!! Just hope I shoot better then I did today. I think it was to nice out for me to be shooting. I do much better in Cold and Wind that's for sure. Shot 4 USBR targets today and my high score was only 219 4x/250 and low was 196 1x/250. Not very good.

Guys - sorry - my bad on the repeat. I went back and looked and it turns out that I did see this target back in October but never shot it and hence why it was unfamiliar to me ... but probably explains how I had it but didn't know where it came from. I don't think I actually starting shooting the challenges until November at least, maybe not until December. That's my excuse anyway and I'm sticking with it!

What say the group - shoot it again or if prefer for me to find another I'll do that but won't be able to until late tonight or possibly tomorrow. I'm in the process of buying a new house and have been out for inspections on it all morning/early afternoon and my boss has this silly idea that I should also do something for him today too. I told him he was a silly bastard but he doesn't seem to feel the same way - LOL

Let me know what you guys think and if you'd like me dig up another target I'll happily do that.

And again, my apologies!

Thanks guys! If anyone else feels strongly in the other direction just let me know and we'll work it out.

Now, get out and shoot! :)

Gave it a try. Very small area to hit at 50 yards. I did my usual sucky shooting. Best of 4 targets was 34. I was shooting Norma match .22 and Geco .22lr through my CZ 455 with Athlon Optics Talos BTR 4-14×44.[/ATTACH] 20180505_204503.jpg 20180505_174539.jpg I am sure that most of you will beat me, but I had fun! After shooting the target, I did shoot a couple clays at 130 and 140 and impressed a couple of centerfire guys.

Fun is what counts!

Took a couple of tries today, but here was the pick of the litter.

Marlin 917V .17HMR
Mueller 8-25x44 optic
Hornady VMAX 17gr ammo
Front rest, rear bag

SCORE = 92 93. The bullseye was definitely a 9 but the first silhouette target was REALLY close. But I called it as a 9. Amended score after instant reply review

Good job!!! Nice shoot'n!

Looking at the first silhouette that is a ten. It broke the line. That is all it takes!

I have the Target Precision program and I have a hard time getting it to work. It's all me not the program. I just have to sit down and play with it more. How do you get the screen shot with the cross hairs?

Well went and shot the target this morning. Was not very good. Did not score them, but I think the high may have been about 85. Yea they need to go in the trash. Drizzle and high winds were a killer today. Normally I can handle wind, but it seemed to be swirling by the target which was strange for where I shoot. But oh well still had fun. Will try again next week and see what happens. May shoot a pistol match Saturday, so I need to practice for that on Friday. I suck with a pistol!

I took a shot at it last night ... several shots actually ... and my outing was far from stellar. I told someone that if they found themselves in a hostage situation and heard that I was being called in that their best bet to survive the ordeal might be to stand directly in front of the bad guy. Or, just go at it with the bad guy in hand to hand combat before I get there to increase their odds of surviving :)

Not worth the time to take pics and post them but I shot at the Wake County Range, CZ 455, Leupold VX3 4.5-14, front rest and rear bunny ears, Eley Match. I forgot to take my phone in with me so I didn't get a picture of my setup this time - that would have been the only pic worth posting - LOL

Best score was a 63. Others were 52, 50, 40, 55, and 47. I won't bore you with my lame excuses but I do have several :(

I'd like to try to go at this one again since I'm sure I could do better but I'm in the process of buying a new house and that's been all consuming so not sure if timing will work out or not.

Maybe place a realtor in front of the target next time! :p

At least you scored yours. I said the heck with that. they were just bad. Our scores would be about the same though. Hopefully I can try again next week.

At least you can at least atribute some of the pain to the wind but I was inside ... wait, come to think of it I do think I heard someone sneeze ... yeah, that must have been it!

I'm also hoping to have another go at it and wish you good luck when you do!

Took out 3 copies last Friday to shoot. It wasn't too breezy but wasn't calm either. Pretty hot. The first one was the best. It usually does not shoot quite this well (one flyer in 10 shots) but I'll definitely take it.IMG_0336.JPG IMG_0335.JPG
CZ455 Tacticool with Yodave trigger, Harris bipod,Vortex 6.5-20x44, and Kydex cheek rest.

... and here I thought I had a good chance of taking the win this month with a 93. you suck! :D

That's some hard holding there amigo. bravo zulu

Alright, im gonna go back to the range for this one. Shot it 3 times yesterday with a brand new cz 455 american, didn't read that the higher score counted even if you hit the friendly. Think I was one down on the bull, but the rest were perfect (except a few half holes on the friendlies) Might have to unseat @JimP42. Report to follow.

Well heck. I read it wrong also. I was going on net score. -7 and +10 would be net +3. I should of kept my targets. Do not think I had a 95 though. But oh well. Going to try to make it back out Tuesday. That will probably be the last chance I get this month.

The goal was to shoot the hostages right?
Those bastards shouldn't have been taken.

85 was my best. 90 if you get REALLY creative with the tear into the ten ring on the third bad guy.

I may have also shot the hostage dead center of his dome on that one the first three times for some reason. But if you shoot out the minus number it's all good right?

I need the 20 moa from the riser. I'd prefer to get a one piece with the 20moa or more built in. If I keep it like this, I REALLY need to get a set of really low rings. 14 mil dialed is dead on at 300 yards.
Without the base I only had about 11 mil of elevation from a fifty yard zero.
But it shoots pretty well as it sits, and I'm remarkably lazy and cheap. [emoji16][emoji16][emoji16]
Might I ask why the riser? Looks like the scope would clear easily with just the rigs. Just curious?

Well I finally got to shoot one after assembling a new .22lr (Savage FVSR)to shoot these matches. This was my first rimfire monthly shoot for accuracy. It was humbling to say the least. I had a thunderstorm sitting next to me so winds were all over the place, calm to 15 mph. Shot several 45-55 before I had FTExtract issues with CCI SV. When the wind wasn't blowing headshots were pretty common, when it was, the hostage died . I plan on stoning the extractor and calling Savage for the free replacement kit this week.

Broke out the old squirble smoker a .17hmr Savage 93R17GV that I've had for a good 10+ years topped with a BSA scope and went to shooting. Ended up with a high of 85 if you're generous or 75 if you go by the small hole.

Got a flat tire on the way to the range, 1/4" self-tapping sheet metal screw so the for those not shooting there was entertainment in the parking lot for 10 minutes.

I'm hooked!

I bought rings that had offset inserts. No riser needed. Just thought I'd pass that along in case you didn't know those existed.

I did, but the riser I have was 9$ and the mount was 12$... See the comment about me being cheap. [emoji16][emoji16]
