Hi all,

I thought starting a new thread might bring more attention.

It seems like the Wake Action Pistol League is indefinitely suspended and Scotty is out.

This is/was a great match in my opinion.

Are there any folks out here that can help?

Seems like they are looking for NRA certified RSOs and a "playbook" of stages.

Please see the email i received below.

"Hello Everyone,

I am writing this E-Mail to answer the many concerns about why the Action Pistol Matches held at the Wake County Firearms & Education Center have been temporally cancelled.

To introduce myself: My name is Fritz Rice and I am one of the three Managers of Range Safety Management which is responsible for the public operation of the Wake County Range.

Our/your range is owned by Wake County, a government owned facility, and was built to provide a safe place to enjoy shooting. Leagues were organized so people could compete in regard to their shooting interest. We have had Junior Rifle League for the beginning shooter, Ladies Handgun League, Bullseye Pistol League, Bench Rest Rifle League, Air Pistol League, Action Rifle League and Action Pistol League. Each league must have a certified NRA Range League Manager who must be on the range at all times and is responsible to insure all safety rules are followed. When using multiple ranges, beside the League Manager, a NRA Certified Range Officer must be available for each range.

Over the last 18 months or so, we, (RSM) and the WCSO Representative have been tightening up our documentation of those individuals using the range during other than Public Hours. This includes those that utilize the range for training and qualifications that fall under the management of RSM. This includes the individuals presenting their Certifications and Qualifications for Instructors, RSOs etc. This also includes Leagues that RSM is responsible for. All League Managers are Contractors for RSM and their certifications are on file.

Meanwhile, several safety concerns were receive from fellow shooters, along with some videos that prompted some questions about target placement, up-range movement and who are the ROs that are running the stages and what are their qualifications? All other Leagues utilize other RSM Contractors to help out when multiple ranges are used. Action Pistol has been the exception until these questions arose.

Eric Shuford, who is the Liaison to the WCSO, looked into the alleged problems and asked Scott to provide him, prior to each match, a range setup. (this had been asked for previously and was not provided) Scott provided the requested data for a while. Being responsible for all of the Leagues, I spoke with Scott, and he told me he had at least 50 setups. I asked him to provide me a copy of each set up, number each, to develop a play book, so when setting up each range he could refer to the play book advising a number for each setup. Ex: range 1 setup 33, range 2 set up 25, etc. That way I could view each and advise if I saw any safety issues.

The first April match was cancelled due to a scheduling error and the second April Match was cancelled due to Scotts failure to provide requested information for range setup and a list of all NRA Certified Range Officers that he intended to use. Scott agreed to provide me with the required documents so the June Matches could be held. Scott failed again to provide the requested information, instead he sent out an E-Mail to each of you and other members of the Action Pistol fraternity asking you to flood Eric Shufords mail with questions, on why the league was being cancelled.

Due to the above, Scotts position of League Manager has been terminated.

Now the league function has taken a step backwards, we dont have a league Manager nor do we have a list of the NRA Certified Range Officers or a play book for range setup. I would like to remind you that one warranted complaint regarding range safety could be the end to all our shooting. Therefore we must insure that we have in place all safety regulations and that they are properly monitored.

The main question is, when can we resume the Action Pistol League?

First off we need a person who has the interest and ambitions to be the Action Pistol League Director, who can prepare & organize the match functions and prepare a play book so management can pre-approve each match. Also, compile a list of all Range Officers and their Certifications. When our requests have been met and approved the matches may continue.

I would like to talk to anyone who would like to be the Manager for the Action Pistol League. My E-Mail address is [email protected]."

Couldn't make it out to every one, but these are great matches! I'd step in if I could, but I have nowhere near the time. Hope someone takes the mantle.

Active members of the range are already aware that interviews have been conducted and proposals to management/owners are in process.

The matches will hopefully resume in September. Look for announcements in August.

Big thank you to those that have stepped up!

What does it take to become an NRA RSO? I saw that you have to be an instructor to take the online courses.

A couple of CRSO's at Wake Co. range have volunteered to do a class for any of the new match director's recruits, when he is officially hired.

I can put him in touch with you, if you are interested. I will PM you when all is signed and sealed.

Thank you!

I'm not interested in being the big kahuna, but would be more than happy to become certified so we can have one RSO per bay!

I would love a PM when the time comes.

That's great news. I don't have the time to be a volunteer RO right now, but I do enjoy shooting these matches.

I attend almost every one of these matches, so I can help out if it just means more work during the match doing something official (and I still get to participate in the shooting parts of course).

I have no NRA creds though I'm sure that's fixable.

I'm an NRA RSO and wouldn't mind helping out, if someone reading this feels I can help in some way shoot me a PM, i love those matches and miss them alot.

I assume this is not necessary for those that are already NRA RSOs?

Why do they limit the requirements to the NRA?
Why not consider some IDPA , USPSA or IPSC ROs or CROs..

NRA in shooting sports is very small compared to the other sanctioned bodys with outstanding safety records.

I'm not sure folks understand how hard it would be to submit stages in advance without the opportunity for changes at match set up.
Unless you run the same stages periodically.

I think that’s the goal. They want a playbook of 50 stages, and then before each match they’d like to know which four will be used that day.

So, would we get a flooplan of the ranges, put that on a document of sorts with dimensional info, and then go from there? If that is the case, why not make that available so people can offer their ideas and then pick the best ones for each class/whatever?
