I've always wanted to scope an M96 to see how accurate it could be, but I refuse to drill and tap a piece of history.
So, I found that this company called BadAce that makes a completely reversible scout mount that replaces the rear leaf with a rail section and decided to try one out with a 2-7 Vortex scope.
Also added a "Tourbon" cheek riser to get up to scope height, and a muzzle brake. As long as I've been shooting and collecting these rifles, I had never bothered to go for more than that standard thread protector. I had no idea 14x1 rh VZ-58 devices would work on them.
I currently have 40 rounds through it in this set up. Scope's holding zero, though shooting with glass in the scout position took a little getting used to.
2 inch groups at 100 yards with PRVI fmj's. I bet I can do better with handloads. Not bad for a 110 year old rifle.

Looks very cool. How do you like that cheek riser? I may need one for the new CZ. The scope has a pretty big objective for the rifle and I order d high rings. Not ideal, but if it is a little wacky for a while I'll make do. Hopefully I can upgrade the stock next year and solve the problem with an adjustbale cheek riser.

I love that!

If funds allow, I plan to do something similar with a K-31 next year.

It's comfortable. Sits in place for the most part, but it was meant for a wider stock than the M96's, and I wish it would sit just about an inch farther forward. They run about $30, but I found on on Ebay for $20.

I've found the secret to scout scopes is to make sure it's in line with your dominate eye and then keep both eyes open....

You ever want to sell or trade that thing, let's talk. I'm a black hole for Swedish Mausers.

I have one non-threaded M96. I don't know if they necessarily command a premium over the "B" rifles, but they do seem a bit more rare.

It's late/ early so I may have read it wrong, but I'm not sure I'd put a turban on and walk around with that thing. Nice set up though.

Great job for finding a scope mount method that doesn't involve drilling. I can get sub 2moa out of my m96 with irons.
