Dallas officer goes home to wrong apartment, kills man inside

Several articles are saying in her statement to the Texas Rangers, she mentioned "going back out into the hallway to give 911 the address."

Why would she need to go get the apartment number if she "thought she was in her apartment?"

Lastly, while a 15 hour day is long, it's not so long that a person becomes unable to function. Every 5 weeks or so I work 15s for a week straight. I know guys that do it for months on end during a refueling outage. Fatigue can be a factor, but in this case it looks like grasping at straws.

It's being peddled like it's some sort of excuse, that the PD worked her so hard she killed someone.

That's complete BS.
We work 14-16 hour shifts 5-6 days a week every week at my company packing hazardous chemicals and sometimes explosives. We should all be dead or have killed someone by now if that is the angle they are trying to play. Much less the stress of driving a 26 foot box truck on top of that. We must be ubermensch.

If you read the post above yours you would see that she thought it was her apartment until she turned on the light. When she saw it wasn't hers she then would then need to figure out the apartment number. Not that complicated.

Now you can go back to saying I'm defending her just because I answered your question.

I'm sorry, what's there to go back to? I haven't said anything about you in this thread, or what you're doing or not doing.

I haven't quoted any of your posts here, nor have I tagged you in a post, nothing.

Everything isn't about you, man....this is about a cop who illegally entered another man's castle and shot him dead.

I feel a little bad for her (what an awful thing to have to live with). I feel a lot bad for the guy's family.

Her actions were inexcusable, and she needs to be accountable as you or I would be.

Yeah, I am not buying the "15 hours" being a cause for this level of confusion. It is a long day, but I know a good number of people who put in that, plus some, who have never been too tired to find their homes, much less go shooting people accidentally because of it. A dozen or so firefighter and EMT friends come to mind.

There is zero doubt--it's well documented--that the more you work, the worse your performance. It's a nasty little secret of medical training when you work 120 hours a week, and with EMS that works 24-hour shifts.

That said, there is no excuse. You are trained to do your job under stress, period. Cops, EMS, FF....How many men (and women) get deployed and are awake 30+ hours patrolling having to process shoot/no-shoot scenarios? I know I was. It sucks, but you are trained, and you almost always get it right.

Does anyone believe this? If what they say is true she purposely went to the wrong address and killed someone for no reason. I think she just screwed up and she will have to pay for that but I don't see any malice.

I think the Ferguson witnesses were more believable.

I still think she just screwed up. Maybe too tired, maybe there was another medical or chemical issue. But I'd still want a deep investigation into the victim and the officer to see if anything else was going on. He sounds like he was a stand up guy so that isn't likely, but stand up dudes have tricked people before.

We all know how dependable witnesses can be. o_O

In a perfect world you might be right but we ALL make mistakes. Some of them turn out badly.

I'm not saying it's not a mistake. Mistake or not, she went in to someone's house and killed them. She should be held responsible for it.

Yeah... I’m going to follow the commands of an intruder in my home. Who cares if they just want to rape my dog and kill my wife. She’s dang lucky she didn’t enter someone’s home that carries on person and drew as soon as they heard someone in the home.

On top of that, how do we know he didn't follow the commands? If it was so dark that she couldn't tell where she was, how could she see if he had his hands up or was doing whatever was asked?

This story can't be judged until the facts come to light.... which they won't, but that's just how things work when the perp draws a paycheck from the .gov.

Maybe its been mentioned and I just missed it but how about if you're in your own house or apartment, LOCK THE DOOR.
Seems this could have been avoided pretty easily.
LOCK THE DOOR AND MAKE SURE IT'S CLOSED.

Are you saying the situation would have played out the same way if he had made sure the door was closed and locked?

Other residents of the same apartment complex have posted videos saying and showing it’s impossible to leave the doors ajar even if you try to. They’re spring loaded and close themselves unless you’re holding them open.

I agree, when the magic suits show up and barge into your home you should always default to subservience.

I lived in apartments with automatic door closers. I had neighbors with floor mats that often got caught in the door and prevented it from closing fully.
We can what if this all day, however, we don't know what actually happened.

I do know that at my house the door gets closed, locked and checked. That may have made a difference in the outcome.

Or she’s just lying - which is possible since her story keeps a’changin’.

If I had more time, or less things to do, I would join that page just to stir that pot and get kicked off. They are off duty, I’m in my house, they listen to me. GTFO.

LOL.. honestly my friend I don't know how you have the energy to keep fighting on these threads all of these years.
Idiocy.

Honestly it's usually just 6 or 8 of the same people leading the charge against societal norms. I keep hoping some of the more rational of our members will join in the fray.

Dayum, amd using the famous everyone I don't like is a Nazi angle we can now see a little glimpse into how Nazi's were made. At some point decent people can be made to accept horrible things.

Most of us tried and realized that it was pointless. One member PM'd me and told me that I should resign because I was "serving the will of the man" and I was implicated in the Obama regime and that I would get what I "deserved". Beyond retarded. Not worth the typed words to even try to discuss with them. I spent a lot of time in the past and on other boards arguing the same crap ad nauseum. :)

I don't have a problem believing her story. Doesn't change the fact that she killed an apparently innocent man and she should be held accountable just like we would.

Also, I suspect had she walked into most of our apartments/houses, things would have turned out a bit differently. Imagine what would have happened had he been armed and shot her as an intruder.

Then she would have gotten exactly what she deserved, just as any other home invader.
