Hurricane Florence predictions

Also, WS/Forsyth was closed today/Thursday too...no dang idea.
Many schools, not Davidson Co, got out early today too.
I was shocked they closed us for tomorrow

Nature is an awesome, powerful force.

I'd imagine being in that tower right now and looking in every direction, seeing nothing but an angry sea and hearing nothing but howling winds, it'd make the haughtiest realize just how small and insignificant they really are.
But it would be an absolute gas being there!

I've lost power as I can't access my cameras anymore. Please keep me informed of conditions in Wilmington!

I've been following it since four AM. Power looks to have been lost up and down College street about 11PM, and of course elsewhere. Winds currently around 75 MPH best I can tell. Eye is passing over my brother in law's house on Harbor Island at Wrightsville, and soon over my son's apartment across from UNCW.

We are getting tropical storm force sustained now, with some gusts that seem hurricane force.

Power outages, and a little damage in my neighborhood.

I have no idea what my slightly crazy neighbor across the street is thinking, no way he can stop that metal carport from coming over now, it’s swaying 4-5ft, and he’s walking all around it in these winds. I don’t mind helping someone, but I’m also not stupid like this. I’m waiting for that thing to come down and blow across the street into the power lines. Straps look like they broke or come up out the ground.

You all stay safe down there.
Wind picking up here, no rain yet.

Just saw that the projected path has taken a bit of a left turn, so it looks like the eye will miss central/north NC by a wide margin, so Raleigh/Durham shouldn't get hit hard.

Maybe Charlotte gets hit harder as a result of the shift.

Good for y’all , that left turn sucks for me, eye going to very slowly pass over my place in SE NC and go into SC eventually. Piedmont areas of NC and SC should just be a rain event with a little breeze that far inland.

500K without power now in NC/SC

There's already 20k plus without power in Wake County... due to wind, I guess. Getting some pretty strong gusts.

It isn't bad in Apex. I was trying to figure out how so many are without power. Maybe some areas with old infrastructure?

Edit - My wife just said the Lifetime Fitness about 1 mile away lost power and closed. Bummer for all the thieves that have been breaking into cars. No income for them today.

We are not far from there, towards Jordan Lake. Our power just went out now, just before 10:30am.

North Durham. Gusty with decent breeze, but that's about it. The roads were essentially empty this morning on the way to work. Felt like a Sunday holiday: zero traffic.

Chesterfield County, SC. About a buck and a half SE of Charlotte.

Very breezy with occasional gusts. No rain and we still have power.

My brother has feral cats around his place. He has a fifth of Absolut and I gave him a slingshot and a bucket of rocks. He shouldn't be bored.

Lost power around 4am, regained it about 8am. Totally amazed its back on- for now.

Obviously Duke has a Wake County Problem. You'd think someone internally would ask why do we have so many outages in Wake when nothing has hit there yet?
50mph gusts tend to have that effect. You forget how large the population is in Wake county.

In Huntersville we get some 15mph winds every one and a while, hardly any rain.

Took the umbrellas off the porch when I got home last night. Stored them in the garage. Other than that there's not much to prepare.

After my last post we had about a 5 second gust that was pretty serious. Then dead calm again. I think the hurricane gods are sending me a message.

My niece already lost power in Union county below Charlotte
