Woke up this morning and its now a Cat 4. Making landfall Wednesday, a Cat 1 in Georgia right into the Carolinas as a tropical storm.

What are you doing to prep?

Standing in line, right now, waiting for the ABC store to open. :)

looking around the yard and seeing if I put anything out that needs to be put back away... nope, nothing. were all good.

I'll rmove the glass top from patio table and the lightwieght chairs inside.

The potted plants were coming in anyway before the low temps this weekend.

I have a few things that need attention:
  1. Put the two umbrellas on the porch into the shed
  2. Lay out grass mat on the bare areas of the lawn (just seeded, ugh). Don't want the seed & dirt to wash away.
  3. Stake down a new flowering cherry tree. Not sure if the roots are enough yet.
  4. Still have 3 cases of drinking water from last hurricane, low on food...
  5. Gas fill up today on both vehicles and two 5 gal cans.
That's about it here.

Between trying to figure out if Florence was going to hit my mom and sister's family in the SC low country, or me here, or my boys in Wilmington, and preparing for all three scenarios I think I did every possible thing I could think of a month ago.

Yep, I am low on whiskey. If it heads this way I'll have to make a pit stop. Might grab a few extra batteries for my flashlights, it is about time they were changed anyway.

Take the flags back down, bring the kayaks back up from the pond and top off a couple of fuel jugs I used for mowing post Flo.

Maybe put the kayaks on the roof of the truck so we can get to Battery Oaks.

Well no panic at work, so this one will probably knock all the trees in W-S down.

I'm doing nothing abnormal.

I could use a bottle of Jack. Otherwise, flag needs to be taken down, outdoor furniture needs to come in again, and the umbrella needs to be laid down.

Saws are sharp and fueled; generator was just run this past weekend as my monthly PM; etc.

Beyond that, I just want to make a strong drink and watch the rain fall.

OMG!!! MILK, BREAD and EGGS!! Gasoline, propane, liquor, beer, condoms, hair spray, toothpaste and bananas. That should hold me until Friday morning....

Guess I'll bring the generator back up to the house.

I donā€™t think weā€™ll get a major hit but Iā€™ve got the chainsaw ready ... the ground is saturated from Flo and with likely 4ā€-6ā€ more of rain and possible wind gusts to 50mph or so trees are my thought with this one.

Michael his as a cat 4...155mph. for perspective, a cat 5 starts at 157mph.

The panhandle is going to get destroyed along with everything in it's part for a long distance.

We prepped, the evacuated for Florence so everything is still ready from that. Including a fifth of Evan bottled-in-bond over the fridge.

I am working an event for my company in New Bern on Saturday. That should be interesting.

I'm praying very hard for my friend down there! After all she's been thru this year, she really doesn't need this too.

Getting out all the stuff I had just gotten put back up from Slow Flo... nothing spectacular and nothing different than every ice storm we have. Basics are what carry the day.

But, I find I've got a much more receptive family this time. They laughed at me during Matthew until they discovered " Dad has toilet paper" and we have none, then it was all "please"...

I asked them all to pack a bag in preparation for if we have to move during Flo, before it even hit. No drama, just pack a bag and put it by the door. I repeated my request nicely over the next two days. When the water started rising, they went into a panic mode with some tears.
After we calmly relocated to a hotel, I gently explained that being prepared is what buys you time and options. If you have something ready, you get to walk out of the house into a dry car and drive to where you've chosen to relocate. If you don't take basic preparations, you have to swim out of your house and walk to whatever foxhole you can reach, and endure. And, if you don't have to use your preps, so much the better but nothing lost.
I think some life lessons were learned. I've lived a life at the "sharp end of the stick" and have talked to them at length, but nothing teaches better than a personal experience.

Not a "prepper", but not a willing cooperative victim of my own stupidity and laziness !

I'm prepping like I work for the Weather Channel. My schedule will have me driving right through the heart of the storm as it blows through SC tomorrow morning.

We never really un-prepped from Florence, and are getting closer to being prepped all the time.

Work says business as usual for me so i will be rollin outa Smithfield around 6pm on my nightly run up to Richmond, over to Burlington and back to Smithfield.
Probably be worse on the way out than coming back in at 4am.

And btw, keep your eyes on Nadine.

Lost power at 1:30 AM..............Generator kicked in at 1:33 AM
Not sure about the cable TV to see how bad the outage is.

Im less worried, where I am, about this than I was Flo.
Only thing I really did for Flo was stay stocked up on gas
I'll just follow my normal routine this time.

The forecast for CLT area is the wind starts at 11am, peak wind about 3pm (35mph). Expected rain total today just under 4".

It's been raining all night.
