Why are chicken wings the most expensive part of the bird?? They are small, have the least amount of meat per pound and it makes no sense to me.. I can buy legs for 69 cents a lb on sale, breasts for just about the same.. But the wing?? $3 a lb.. I made the mistake of buying some wings at food lion, I cut them in half and deep fried them, then tossed them in different sauces. Then cut whole taters and fried them also into fries.. They loved it and now want me to do it again.. They consumed 6 lbs of chicken wings as fast as I could pull them out of the fryer.. I gotta feed all these kids on the cheap.. Is it supply and demand that determines the cost of the wings?

Yes. Supply and demand. Great bar food. Great grease, meat, skin, hot sauce ratios. If you want economy by whole chickens and cut them up yourself. I cut up chickens and smoke or grill them a lot up in the mountains over an open fire. I get some rub under the skin and on top. It doesn't even need sauce if you like chicken. But you could 'buffalo' thighs and drums if you'd like. It would be fine.

Do hot legs!!!

Sauce recipe;

Pint of huy fong (green chicken) siracha and a pint of honey, warm up in a pot and mix well. Bestest sweet spicy sauce eva!!

When I do my Vortex wings I use Weber Kick'n Chicken.

Damnit...now I have a craving for wings. In the past Ive made sauce using my fav hot sauce https://www.thepepperplant.com/shop.html the original is the shiz on everything. Also used some wing sauce from Food Lion whuch was ehh. Now these rubs are sounding bad arse...gonna have to whip up a batch this weekend maybe.

Lane's makes a rub called SPF 53 I think. Good for slightly spicy dry rub wings. I also like to use Dizzy Dust seasonings. The make a good Caribbean Jerk and one called Swamp Venom.

Pucker Butt Pepper Company down in the Rock Hill area has some good stuff too. Voodoo Prince Death Mamba is excellent. They have some other good sauces too.

LOL..Well Im glad I kicked off a wing sauce discussion.. But, In my case tho, these kids are not picky.. I just deep fry them, drop into a bowl and slather them with their favorite Food Lion wing sauce, they grab the ranch and chow down.. It just makes for an expensive dinner,, wings should be cheap but will cost me $20 . Guess I shouldn't complain, I had to work real late the other day and went to McDonalds to feed their gullets and that cost me $30..

Feed'n kids ain't cheap. They got that hollow leg syndrome which you have found out.

I married a woman that had three kids. I went grocery shopping and bought a box of cereal. I went looking for the cereal a couple days later and couldn't find it. I asked her about it and the kids had scarfed it down. That was my introduction to the hollow leg syndrome.
