My SBA3 came today, so I’m going to move my short AR57 upper over and make it a pistol. That’ll leave me with a spare registered lower.

I want to buy a cheapo 7”/7.5” PSA upper that I don’t plan on suppressing. Nothing but a range toy that shoots fireballs and rattles your teeth. Something that somebody will take a shot and say “wow”, take one more just to see if it’s as bad as they thought, and not want to take a third shot.

Any recommendations? Do more ports or less ports on a brake make it worse? Flaming pig? Anybody have something laying around that was too obnoxious for them to use anymore? :D

I’ve also considered a short Beowulf upper, but that’s probably 4X the price. I want a cheap build since the stamp is already done.

The flaming pig and knock offs kinda throw everything out. Let’s me see the fireballs with the naked eye instead of catching them with a camera

How's yours working out?

I haven’t done anything but take it outta the envelope.

Still trying to get my house back together.
Thank you again

One I remember as being obnoxious is JP Enterprise’s “Recoil Eliminator” brake. It works superbly BUT the blast to each side WILL send shooters on both side away cursing you. It will knock dust out of the rafters when under covered shooting.

...........imo the loudest brakes tend to have large vanes at the 3 and 9 position. Think about the brake on a 50 BMG.

I had a YHM Phantom brake that was obnoxious on a Carbine.

Ok i just googled the recoil eliminator.......
.....im sure that would fit the bill.

Tank brake. That’s what my 16” Beo has.

The Armalite tunable comp is really annoying to bystanders and will clean out their nasal cavity too

I have a Lantac dragon that is pretty obnoxious unless you are the one pulling the trigger

Someone makes a loudener. Specifically designed to enhance the muzzle blast. I’ll look for it @BigWaylon

I want one of these!! Just for this paragraph!!

Turn it up to eleven! This concussion enhancing muzzle device will maximize the gaseous distribution of explosive secondary chemical propellent forces from your kinetic energy ranged engagement implement to efficiently leverage the demoralizing effect of audible and tangible acoustic transmission.

The Miculek. Reports are the M4 72 is extremely effective at recoil mitigation and brutal to bystanders.

I had a couple breaks made for me by Joel Pendegrass for a couple 308’s and I told him I don’t care about bystanders I want as little recoil as possible.

Good lord I shouldn’t have said that. They felt like a 22 when firing but would flex the glass in my truck if fired near it. The blast was as bad as a 50 BMG brake.

The JP Cooley, Miculek, and “AK” brakes are all terribly punishing!

Well ... if we all were to install these on our firearms maybe the Hearing Protection Act would get more consideration ...

...and “the rain of hate” coming out of the muzzle is cool too!

See if you can get a clone of the AMD-65 brake. That concussion from that MFer is like a punch in the face & you've never seen a firing line clear so fast.

I have a Templar custom break on my rifle and I always get complaints that it is obnoxiously loud .

I had a YHM Phantom brake that was obnoxious on a Carbine.

Guy i used to hang out with had a phantom qd for his suppressor, without the can on it, it would blow over a full beer if you sat it on the tailgate anywhere near it

DSC00260.JPG I have a Bushmaster I bought in the late 90's with a factory brake. The ports are at 3 and 9 and it is a beast. NOBODY wants to be beside me at the range.
I don't have a close up of the break but maybe you can zoom in.

With the one I had I could feel the slap at the shooter's position. Those to my left and right didn't like me at all.

The PWS type brakes that come on the FN SCARs suck for blast, but reduce recoil very well.

@BigWaylon I have found that the fireball from a naked AR muzzle is pretty beautiful to behold at least with M193 spec ammo. But..........I have a short 2-chamber brake that I would be willing to try on my 7" PSA marauder and get
my buddy to record it in slowmo for everyone's pleasure.

The seller no long makes that style (it's probably too short and obnoxious for everyone who bought it) but he has a breacher style one and a breacher style with square ports. They're CNC machined and look as good as any VG6 or anything you would want to call quality mfg.

here's the breacher style:

They're also much lighter (2.x vs 8oz) and 1/2" to 3/4" shorter than most 3-chamber 'tanker' brakes like the one you posted up. That's alot to add to the end of the barrel. I think 2 chamber brakes are where it's at for something like .223

When I shoot it indoors, and anyone has targets in the lanes beside me closer than 5 yards, it blows their targets off the stand :D

Let me get some parts together this weekend and we will do it. Maybe at the Battery Oaks meetup?

My Griffin mini brake is INSANE. Its a small two port brake at 9 & 3. Perfect muzzle control but load and crazy fireball.

I’ve been thinking ...
I wonder what one of ones mentioned above (especially the Loudener) would be like on say a 10/22? Or maybe on a .22magnum type? Just random thoughts started by this crazy forum ... but you know you want to try it at least before you mount it tona centerfire :D

No one complains too much about my FSC556, it is a bit unpleasant to shoot next to a wall or the like.
My Strike Industries Checkmate gets a lot of complaints.

I’ve seen that mentioned in several threads as I continue to research...but I don’t think it’s available any more?

Pulled the proverbial trigger just now. Opted for one not even mentioned.:eek:

PSA had no 7.5” uppers in stock when I looked a couple days ago. Somebody else mentioned Mas Defense (here in Charlotte) for a pistol upper and I’d completely forgotten about them.

Upper was on sale for $179.99. Brake on sale for $39.99 and in the dropdown list for options when I placed the order. Figured it was worth a shot. I’m pretty sure I have a BCG around here, and maybe a spare CH?

ETA: here’s the upper. I put a note in the order that I was assuming since the brake was offered that the first port would be outside the rail so it could safely be shot. Asked them to call/email if I needed to pick a different option. Need to grab some type of handstop for safety reasons.
