What’s a good scope, without breaking the bank, for a .22 rifle. Around the $100 or less range.

I put a Sightron S1 2x7 on my .22 rifle and have been very happy with it. I think I paid $107 delivered to my door. Parallax is set at 50 yards.

How can someone soundly recommend a scope not knowing what you intend to do with the rifle?
 
I was about to ask for the OP's intended use....

For a walking around squirrel gun a 4-14x Target scope may be overkill.....

I like Nikon and Vortex 2-7x32 rimfire scopes. New is a little above your price range, but I've scored several here and on other forums for around 100 bucks.

For a bench gun the Mueller gets repeated high marks and recommendations.
 
I've not used a Vortex on a rimfire, but the 2-7x32 on my 6.8SPC AR is an amazing scope. I've never used a Nikon, but I've hunted with
@rantingredneck for years & know he swears by 'em. Highly doubt you'll find either for $100, though.

I love the Weaver Classic Rimfire 2.5-7x28 on my Marlin 60DLX. Great scope & I like to use this combo to shoot the staples out of my targets at 25yds when I get bored. Cost ~$175, if that's an issue, but worth every penny & a perfect all-around scope for a .22.
 
One of my favorite cheap, but high quality scopes has been the Weaver K4. No frills, fixed 4x power, but it will last a lifetime if you don't abuse it.

That's why I buy most of my stuff used. :) I have several Nikons and at least 2 Vortex scopes that I paid 100.00 or less for.
 
Google the term Parallax, this condition with most scopes is what makes most inexpensive scopes inaccurate. Combine that with the typical inaccuracy of bulk 22LR ammo and you wind up with a combination where you miss more then you hit depending on the size of your target. Another idea,instead of a scope is the use of a some sort red or green dot tube,reflex sight. These don't have parallax problems and if you have decent eyesight can make for a really good small game gun..When your dealing with a in expensive scope, more times then not, it just makes seeing how much you missed the target easier..
