So, my eyes are getting worse the closer I get to 40. My best pistol shooting is done with rmr’d glocks. I do ok with ARs with either a T2 or MRO, but some reality has sunk in. It won’t be too long, I think, before even my performance there starts to deteriorate.

I just made the plunge back to lpvos. I had a P4Xi on my AR for a while and liked it, but couldn’t warm up to it’s bulkiness. So what do I do? I end up with a pair of bigger, heavier 1x6 scopes with the vipers. At $599 shipped with mount from dsgarms, I couldn’t resist. Now I just need to find the time to sight in 2 scopes.

Anyone else, pick up recently or have experience with the 1x6 vipers? From me playing around with them...tacticoolly...around the house, I really like them, they’re heavy beasts tho. I wonder why they seem to be being blown out by online retailers. My 2 examples seem to me to be a little heftier in build quality to my old Steiner.

I have a Steiner and a Viper. I like them both a lot. The Viper does seem a little better all around, quality wise.
I have the Vortex on an 18". Killer killer scope for the money. Seems to be great deals right now.

I like the simple reticle with daylight bright dot. I use them on 1X 90% of the time, so with diopter I can get nice bright image with big FOV, almost like a dot and fast.
I'd rather have a Razor, but these are almost as good, for a lot less money. Those two scopes are the best bargains in LPVO right now imo.

Agree, regarding the Razor and the killer pricing at the moment. When you start talking about optics over $1K, it’s hard for me to justify spending that much for the role said optic is going to play for me. I’m not jumping out of airplanes or living in the trenches, so I don’t need the extra, much more costly durability of the Razor. The Viper has been described by others as a budget version of the Razor and from first impressions, it’s looks like it will fit my needs to a T and I was able to get 2 of them, with mounts, for around the retail price of 1 Razor.

Now, I’m hoping for great things whenever I can put these to the test. Also hoping for great things out of the Holosun 507c I’m hoping to pick up from Hlpressley today. That eotech-like reticle looks very promising....I kinda hope I just find the Holosun to be just ok...if I really like it, then crap, I’ve got 2 more rmr’d Glocks to outfit with them...first world problems...

The MOA gen 1 viper PST 1-4s are 370 right now at opticsplanet. Vortex was relabeling them Rangers and blowing them out through Midway at 300 recently. I got 3 and should have gotten 5 or 6. Perfect for AR pistols, blackout, and anything else at shorter ranges if you don't like smeared dots due to astigmatism, and you might want a little magnification someday. And they work w/dead battery. I am stuck in MOA land, refusing to switch to mils, but the best clearance deals seem to be on MOA reticles (but less selection).

What I don't like about the 1-6 you are talking about above is that the hashes are 4MOA. I prefer 2 MOA. I have decided to move away from all the various BDC type LVPO reticles and go with plain MOA hashes. With various loads in various calibers I'd have to have custom data for the BDC hashes - might as well get MOA hashes that are more useful.

At the other end of the spectrum I got a Trijicon accupower 1-8x28 recently for 980 delivered with tax. That is a sweet LVPO. I can't compare to the Razor but I suspect it would hold its own. I wish I could justify a couple more, but for now at least that just goes on my primary AR and I probably won't shoot the others :)

The Viper is just MOA hashes, not a BDC.

The prior Viper/Ranger is nice.
Unfortunately, I find the reticle way too fine, hard to make out, and almost completely useless. Additionally, it is too busy, and is not daylight bright. Just my opinion.

I have a Trijicon Accupoint 1-4x24, it is the clearest scope I have. Any input on how it stacks up against the Razor/Viper etc...?
