Even if you tried to make up a horror story, you probably wouldn’t have added this twist. Capitol Armory posted this today:

Hey everyone,

Some of you may have received an email regarding your free SilencerCo can's from last year's promotion.

At this time, we have just about as much information as the folks who received the email. From what I've been informed, another dealer has refused acceptance and transfer of free suppressors from SilencerCo and they will be transferring those items to us.

There will be more information regarding this, but we will make sure those suppressors get into your hands, or your local dealer's hands if you're outside of Texas. When we have more information regarding this situation, I'll update. As for now, I don't have a firm idea of the inner workings of how those transfers will be handled as we were just made aware of this. I just wanted to let everyone know if they come here, we'll get you all sorted out.

What does this mean? What dealer would decline accepting free cans? And I guess it'd have to be a pretty big dealer/shipment for them to comment on it.

They haven’t posted any other details at last check. Seems really weird for CA to not have gotten a heads-up. And for it to seemingly include people in multiple states?

Maybe a dealer has either given up their FFL, or is just completely frustrated with how this promotion is being handled.

But even if the dealer is frustrated with the promo, how can they deny their customers their free cans? The dealers themselves didn't qualify for the cans? Where did you find this posted? I don't see it on their website or Facebook.

Edit. Found the thread on ARFCOM. That post is vague and not well written, but I assume makes more sense to those who received an email.

Lots of dealers don't do nfa transfers for various reasons. I'd imagine the customer never asked the dealer if they would accept them

Edit: auto correct changed "nfa" to "new" since I was quoted leaving this note

That's a good way for the dealer to go out of business. They lose both the revenue of the buyer from the transfer fee and likely the customer in the long term.

Except in this situation, I’m assuming the customer used the same dealer for both the paid and free silencers...which is really what makes it weird. Even if that’s not 100% true, I’d guess it’s the situation for the vast majority.

That, plus the multiple states involved really has my curiosity piqued.

I would wager that nfa sales are a rather small part of the average gun shop. Even ones that carry a decent amount of gear if it broke 5% of total sales that would be a surprise.(shops that specialize in nfa are an obvious exeption) Factor in an even smaller subset of people who want to transfer instead of order direct from the actual retailer and I doubt many would even notice. Customers or retailers.

Any big chains get out of the nfa game recently? Didn't see that it was from capitol armory so guessing that the customers got the ones they paid for via a transfer and somewhere there was a change.

Not that I know. I asked my two questions in the ARF thread. We’ll see what details come to light.

Apparently what happened was related to SiShop and the whole damn thing was a huge misunderstanding. Someone posted this in the thread on ARFCOM:

Dear Summer Promo Participant,

We sincerely apologize for the miscommunication you received from us regarding Silencer Shop and the processing of Summer Promo transfers. Silencer Shop did not refuse to process Summer Promo transfers. To be clear, Silencer Shop cannot transfer free items to customers out of state or send to a dealer for transfer out of state. Silencer Shop is processing Texas Summer Promo transfers. Your Summer Promo suppressor is scheduled to ship to Silencer Shop by end of June as promised.

Silencer Shop is a trusted partner and valued member of the suppressor industry. We respect and support their efforts and partnership as well as their premier customer service.

Again, we sincerely apologize for the miscommunication.

Thank you,

And here’s what the tracking number gives me...:D

So, if you ordered your paid can from Silencer Shop and they transferred it to your dealer, why can’t they transfer the free can to your dealer?

This whole free can thing is beyond dumpster fire bad...

Extended on almost 20,000 free suppressors. Ouch

I’m glad I did it. The purchased stamp should be approved any day now. The free one has been pending for 5+ months. $1200 for a Maxim 9 and Octane 45K, including both stamps.

Others...not so lucky.

Month and a half to go to see if they meet their latest deadline or not.

We are gettinf closer to the deadline........i still havent heard anything about my freebies.

I will say that with their backlog and whatnot I expected to see tooling marks and other cosmetic issues. But the ones I got so far have been flawless

Especially considering the cans they’re making are discontinued.

My dealer has been getting them in. My cans haven't been received however...

Oh I heard nothing of substance from sico honestly. Their tracking info email is always long after I get the product

There’s at least one guy on ARF still waiting on his freebie.
