Use to be many more when I was in college. Loved some pull ups with extra weight hanging then not as much now.

In order to get a reasonable number of reps and to encourage proper form I once built a spring loaded platform that took about 25% of my weight. Sadly that was left behind when I injured my back and tore a rotator cuff, so today I’m pretty sure it’s zero.

Similar question, different muscles, how many feet of rope can you climb?

I just did two... Embarrassing... I can barely hang for a minute too...

Good thing I carry a gun. If I was forced to use my fitness to defend myself I would be screwed...
Ditto...

9, I can't remember a time I did more, pretty sorry, always been a weak point.
Currently doing weighted ones trying to bust this plateau.

I get a dozen now. It used to be more when I was still active duty but Im just lazy now lol.
I once watched a guy do 10 while wearing his full kit with a combat load of (blank) ammo and weapon. He took the platoon for about $300 when he did. It was pretty impressive.

You have to do one pull up to be able to go on the rope swing at Carrigan Farms rock quarry. I got to go on the swing and that's all I have to say about how many I can do!

>10 assisted by a step stool :)

We would do that. Person with the least had to buy beer, person with the most got something 'special,' like starting libo at noon on Friday. The numbers were anywhere between 8 and 18.

Now....8ish before I start kipping. Chin ups, maybe 10 before I need to kip.

strict pull ups or 'kipping' style? strict probably 10. Kipping maybe 15 or 20 before coming off the bar.

I always hated the skinny little marathon running looking dudes that could knock out dozens of pulls ups without breaking a sweat. When I was in the absolute best shape of my life, I could never do more than 3-5.

Today? I'd hurt myself stretching to reach the bar.

With foot help or just hands? How thick a rope and what material?
1.5” sisal, hanging free, no knots, legs acceptable (I always used them for endurance, but not for speed).

I doubt I could make 10’ today, and I’d look damn funny doing it.

30’. Might be more but that is the longest rope I have access to. Legs absolutely help with muscle fatigue or I would only be able to do 5’ maybe haha

Pull-ups have been tricky for me for the past 15 yrs since I torn my rotator cuff and labrum in my right shoulder. ~5 at the moment if my shoulder holds up. 0 if not

I've been stuck at 5 consecutive for awhile now. I can do multiple sets doing a session, but can't get past number 5.

I'm with @Tim these days. A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, I was a highly motivated paratrooper & NCO & was an Army Master Fitness Trainer, I could do a whole bunch. Now, not so much. I can't fix my broken bits, but am working on getting back into something resembling 'shape'.

Over 10 but if you want a challenge, most gyns now have a climbing rope, lay flat with the rope at your belly button, grasp with both hands and pull your self up wothout bending anything(leds, waist, neck ect.

I was able to get a few not-so-ugly pullups today. I think that brings my lifetime total to 5.

Planning so many more this year.

Reactions: Me.
Yeah... I'm calling shenanigans on that many people being able to do 10+ actual pull ups. Kipping don't count.

I can’t speak for the rest of them, but I train almost every day with an alternating routine consisting of weights, speed workouts, distance runs, distance swimming, pushups/sit-ups/chin-ups. I bust my butt to be in shape to outperform the =<40 year olds at Spartan events and trail races.

I love passing the young guys at those events!!! Hahaha!!! This old guy just passed YOU!!
