The Gun Run will be a 5k centerfire biathlon taking place in Ellerbe, NC on June 22nd, 2019. This event will challenge your shooting abilities, fitness, and gear. Check out thegunrun.us for more information!

I am fairly excited about this. I was bummed that the one at Clinton House was cancelled, so this could be a good consolation. Who is running this? The website is a little vague about any details.

What are the prizes? A buddy of mine asked about it? I'm to damn old myself. $80 to sign up. That's a pretty good bottle of Scotch! ;)

I am putting the race on and I was also bummed when Carolina Run and Gun was cancelled. These things are very time intensive to organize so I understand why the Match Director couldn't do it this year. Never fear, The Gun Run will fill the void! If you'd like to know more about me specifically, feel free to PM me, I don't share my personal details to everyone.

As for prizes, I am in the process of securing some sponsors to donate some goodies for the top performers and some random draw prizes as well.

Thanks for the interest, please tell your friends.

I sent you guys a message on your website. Super excited about this.

Signed up for it this morning!
I was excited to see this after the Carolina Run and Gun was cancelled.
First time doing a run and gun.

I think you will really like it. Everyone learns a lot about their gear set up during their first run and gun. Enjoy the learning experience!

Good luck!! I hope everyone has a safe and wonderful time. Perfect weather before it's miserable outside. This is one of the few times in life I really wish I was 40 years younger.

Hard to find info on this, likely because I’m dumb.
Few ?’s:
Is this pistol and rifle?

What type of accuracy/distance for rifle?

Both pistol and rifle, 200yds or so max rifle shot. 60rnds per gun or so for a clean run.

Right in my wheelhouse. Coupled with my ability to lose my breath on my staircase, I should be top 5 for sure.

Thx. For some reason when I first attempted it took me to Twitter. But that clears it up.

I’m get my fatass out there and beat the crap out of you fat boys. You’ve been warned!

One last question:
Do they have those little stations with equipment for people that are under cardiac arrest? Asking for friends I’m concerned about...

At last year's Carolina Run & Gun, the 'station' was Kelly (@beseventeen ) in a golf cart yelling at me "don't die!" and then laughing as she drove off. Good times.

Went to the website. I must admit I am somewhat interested, but I will have to hold my nose and swallow at the whole empty magwell in between shooting stages thing.

Reminds me of one my favorite courses, it was a NAVSPECWAR course in the desert, something like 13 miles for time, you and a swim buddy, every half mile there is a shooting drill or exercise. It was a hoot.

Having RO'd a fair share of 3-Gun matches....I wouldn't participate in a RnG if there was not an 'empty magwell' requirement between stages.

Folks that don't do this kind of thing professionally and that may be a bit unfocused due to stress (competition, physical exertion) tend to make mistakes. And mistakes with guns have bad consequences.

I respect that. To me, if you want to put it squarely in the category of being 'fun' and 'games,' I don't have an issue. If it is a stress shoot type of course, or training, it's totally different.

Still thinking about it, tho….

How do you sling a rifle and not have it slap the poopy out of you for 3 miles?

Well Im out. RO class at Sir Walter

And Old Fat Out Of Shape Guy Division

Thats kind of the point for me. I will be 42 at the race date, At this time i flex +/- 5lbs from 300lbs and i am working on my cardio now for the race.

Since i set my goals to attend this style of competition i have physical and shooting goals. I have lost 35lbs and shoot a regimented training program.

A win, win

I'll be 54 in Beginning of Sept but still enjoy shooting and hearing those 30 yr olds talk about how they feel old. LOL They don't have a clue yet. Good Luck Brother.

There will be plenty of people doing this race in their 50s who aren't in the best shape, don't let that keep you from coming out. Most everyone walks at some point.

I walked at least 60% of the Carolina Run & Gun last summer and had a blast.

When that match was announced (March?), I had just tipped the scales at 302#. When the match came around in August I was at 268# and had been jogging, walking, etc. to prep. I was still 'out of shape'. What I found was that the R&G folks were all about 'run your own race' and all about being encouraging. It was an great experience. I really hope these events can keep that vibe instead of becoming all about the sponsored jersey prima donna gear snobs that 3 Gun seems to have become.

Just do it, it's a ton of fun to meet the challenge.

And be prepared to get messy....

This encourages me to get my fat butt out there. If I like this other match that @NKD has talked me into I’ll be there. The training will continue.

I’m 50. Only like 205, but horribly out of shape.

I got Lake Johnson right here. 3 mile trip around so be perfect for getting a little more ready. Like Big John, give me something to work towards.

I just plan on getting the blood flowing, burning some power, and being glad afterwords that I got my but out there.

I am no runner but the 5k plan i posted in this topic is the only one i have used without getting a injury. Its the same work plan i am using for this event.

This kills me! Been wanting to do something like this for years and it’s an hour away...but it falls right in the middle of a trip out of town. Maybe next time!
