Well....that was crazy

60's are going to take you out back of the wood shed then.

My dad stopped by yesterday to get our bag of scraps (he mixes it with his yard dog's regular food).

I told my wife that since he's here, I'll go ahead and return his suit coat to him. I asked her where it was, because it wasn't hanging on the door. She said, "You gave it back to him, yesterday." Then she followed up with, "Holy Hell! Is this what I have to put up with, the older you get?"

I ran crying to my bedroom.

What is wrong with you people that somebody doing their job at the door is such an invasion of your privacy that you're ready to start a war over?

Do you think that they aren't trying to do the job they were tasked to do... that they're overstepping their authority?

If this is such a big deal you should probably shop elsewhere.

Because the same stores do absolutely jack about the people actually stealing. Unless a manager sees them steal AND maintains a sight line the entire time until they try and leave the store they can't do jack and let them go.

I'll be damned if I'm going through a check to make them feel like they're doing something useful when their policy gives actual thieves all the breaks.

Agreed. I'm sure anyone here who has their own business and deals with the public has no problem with trying to control theft/loss prevention for his/her own business. No different IMO. How many times have we've read here about having to deal with the general public. When you're a shopper at Walmart, you are the general public.

There's a thing happening currently where people will buy a bunch of stuff, go through the checkout, take the stuff to the car and unload it. Then turn around and come back into the store and put all the same stuff back into the cart and go directly to refunds to get their money back and they have a receipt to prove purchase. A time or two we've been asked to scan our receipt with some handheld machine. I'm not sure how this could prevent the above scenario from happening but it's a part of their loss prevention. In another life I was a loss prevention guy in a store called Richway in Columbia South Carolina so I don't mind having a little patients with them as they try to do their job and keep the store from being emptied out.

I discovered Mayfield ice cream while on vacation in Florida a couple of years ago. It's better than Bryer's! It's in a yellow container and the only place around here that carries it is Harris Teeter.

I don't eat much ice cream. In fact, I can't remember the last time I did. But if i was getting it from the store, I would normally get Bryer's because it seemed to be made from stuff I could pronounce. Then I would let the old bat at the door look at my receipt.

Is Mayfield's similar?

Huh, I actually agree with J R. Who knew...

The “bag checkers” at my local Walhell are all retirees. It’s just “lip service” for corporate that they are trying to prevent loss. They aren’t possibly gonna stop anyone who is stealing...

I get asked about every 5th time and that’s only because there is no one leaving. Or if there is I’m usually the safest bet not to be a white trash crackhead who will make a scene or be obnoxious to them.

It’s my opinion that taking maybe 3 seconds to stop, exchange pleasantries while they glance at the receipt, smile and walk on is most likely a relief to them vs what the “people of Walmart” can conjure up lol.

The early 70’s fella wearing the combat vet hat actually apologized to me when he checked and said it’s because all my items weren’t in a bag. (Two kids fishing poles for the niece and nephew) so that took all of 3.5 seconds the other day.

I just don’t see excercising my rights against a minimum wage retiree that’s supplementing their income or staving off boredom as the Hill I wish to fight upon.

I don't have anything against the people doing the bag check unless they get pushy about it. Walmart corporate and their meaningless policy can kiss the deepest, darkest and worst maintained part of my arse.

Bryer's has a gritty texture to it. Ice cream is supposed to be smooth. Mayfield, Eddy's, Blue Bunny, Blue Bell is all good stuff. I forgot Turkey Hill.

Nothing wrong with me, but it's none of their damned business, especially when they watch me checkout & know I'm 'safe' to approach, vs. actually attempting to stop shoplifters. If they post conspicuously that it's a requirement for shopping there & apply that equally, fine. Until then, they can piss off.

Ive never had anyone put their hands on me, but they check my receipt almost every time....and it really doesnt bother me. What i am trying to understand......is whats the big deal about having someone looking at your receipt and merchandise?

Breyers isnt what it was, but its still really good. Blue Bunny, Haggen Dazs and Ben and Jerrys are really good too. Hersheys ice cream made for restaurants and such is really good too.

Don't know. The older I get the extent of my reading is as far as reading the flavor on the box and that's about it. Apparently it's made out of Tennessee.

Leaving BJs the other day after using the self checkout Abe there are 14 items listed and 15 in the cart. [emoji15] They didn’t make a big deal of it and I was embarrassed as hell. Line of about 10 people behind me as the person tried to figure it out. Found the offending item and told them to keep it instead of going back and paying again.

Reactions: Me.
I go to WM every weekend for my grocery shopping.
For three reasons, I always do self-checkout near the door.
1 - well, there arent enough dang registers open. They have two dozen registers and 2 will be open.
2 - I get to bag my goods how I want them
3 - Im right by the door (always use the closest registers by the exit so they can see).

RARELY get stopped - usually it's the same woman at the exit each week. She can see, if she wanted, me scanning everything and getting my receipt.

Maybe I’ll print out a couple Ron Swanson permits...and have one in my hand instead of my receipt. Hand it to them as I walk past.

This is standard issue paperwork carried in my wallet. Has come in handy a few times...leaves people standing there speechless.

I haven't been to Walmart in over two months, a decision I made when they tryed forcing people to use self checkout by having only a couple cashier's on duty.
So there are other options

The only thing different is you now have the option to self checkout. They have never had more than a couple of cashiers on duty at any one time.

Actually the hours I shopped (Sunday morning) thete we're generally five or six ,but the morning I went in and there were only two, I decided to shop elsewhere

I smile real big and pretty for them with 100% unbroken eye contact and I've never been stopped. I have even less respect for corporate fake authority than the "real" thing. I'll be more than happy to have an attorney oblige any cart jockey for putting hands on me.

You want to know who they don't stop? Legit criminal looking thugs that are actually stealing. Wonder why that is...

My dad worked at WM for several years, changin' tires, doin' oil changes, etc. Started out as the janitor/maintenance guy. Said a 15 y/o white girl got caught trying to boost a $20 pair of earrings & they maxed her out. Police, charges, the whole bit. Another time, a very large black woman in one of those electric carts with several wild-ass kids came in late at night (& was a regular customer). Kids runnin' wild through the store, the whole spiel. For whatever reason, that night she had to stand up out of the cart & several CDs, video games, packages of steak, etc. fell out from under her mumu. She was made to leave the merchandise & was 'banned' from that store.

Seriously?

I'm not trying to stir any pot or spin a narrative; I'm simply pointing out that their loss prevention guidelines are applied very unequally. Until that changes, they can kiss my ass.

We only shop at WM as a last resort, when what we need isn't readily available elsewhere nearby. The quality of their store brand stuff is piss-poor at best, shopping there is never a 'deal' (with the exception of some clothing, some health/hygiene items & .22lr ammo) & it's always a PITA to get in & out of the place. I don't use the self checkout, anywhere, for a couple of reasons. One, to me, it's taking a job away from a person & two, the damned things hate me. Always 'unexpected item in baggage area' or some other error message nonsense & I always need a cashier's assistance to clear the error, punch in a code, whatever & yer not buying beer without human intervention. I'll just wait in line & let the cashier do their thing.

I refuse to self-checkout. Unless I can do it from home, and you deliver.

Same here.

Once at Lowe's I was in line waiting to check out. A customer service person suggested I use the self service register since no one was waiting. I asked her if it would save me any money. She said no. I told her that if I used the self service checkout I would not be getting all the customer service I was paying for.

Seems to me that all you goobers that have a problem with these stores ( mainly Walmart ) checking your receipt don't seem to see the easy answer. Don't go there. It's been years since I was in Walmart, really don't remember the last time. Somehow I have survived.

I don't check out up front during daylight hours. I check out in sporting goods, electronics, jewelry, tire and lube, garden center. Those are pretty much staffed. Most time it's tire and lube. No one checks my bag cause they rung it up. It's a closer walk to the car also. Once you learn the system, make it work for you.

Clearly... What made it clear again?

You keep missing the posts about the checkers watching us check out, having our stuff bagged by the cashier & paying?

Takes 15-20 minutes most times to get someone to the sporting goods counter at the Mebane WM. I rarely have a reason to visit the other departments & so much of their stuff is such cheap crap that I'd rather drive to multiple other stores than roll the dice that items will fit or even work correctly.

Since the checkers are in the vestibules and not within sight of the registers I'll have to call BS on that play.
