Ordered from an online store because you NEVER find these in brick and mortar store. Transferred through Cabelas in Fort Mill just because the transfer cost was cheap and its on the way home. Otherwise buying a gun there is a total PITA. Sending it out next week for newsheep horn grips unless I can find someone in state to do ivory to match my other SAA which doesnt seem to be panning out.

Use the lone coyote for transfers. $15 and no hassle. Paperwork is fast and no waitiing.

This is one Bob Marsden built rams horn grips for me a few years ago. The gun was a suicide special I picked up in a pawn shop that was .357 and had laid in a pool of blood for a while destroying the finish. I converted it to .45 and had Fords refinish it. Next to my other ivory stocked P1840 SAA ...

Beautiful case hardening. Ford's does some amazing work.

It takes a person with a nuff passion to wanna create a masterpiece like the one I treasure. old friends sometime come back from the past. thanks Billy, with out you allot of the tricked out fancy guns most men and women of sc and nc wouldn't have
Thanks Pard...can only take credit for a couple of hundred over the last half century. I really would like to know where some of the nicer ones like you found are hiding.

If you bought and paid online Cabela's didn't sell you the gun, they just handled it.

I just moved back down from Washington State after having been gone for 36 years. Any and all everything that gets bought online and transferred into the state there gets taxed. Had a dealer friend who did time for not charging the sales tax on transfers over several years time. Lost his shop over it. If I were to buy a gun online and pick it up at a transferring dealer I'd have to pay the state sales tax and the transfer fee.

Its nice to be back in South Carolina.

Michener's book "Alaska" goes into some background on some of that.

I e had a lot of grips made over the years and IMHO nutmeg sports make the best fitting grips in the best time frame. They are expensive though and while I'd have no problem paying $500 for a set of custom fitted ivory grips those days are long gone and $500 for Giraffe bone or horn is just too much.

Walt Marsden does good work up in Tennessee as well. Walt will put you in the queue and let you know when to send the gun or grip frame into him so the actual time away is pretty short.

Rams Horn is getting difficult to find these days too and just blanks are running $100 a set for well figured grips.

Some of the grip guys are years out.

Not mine but Walt did these in horn on a nickel SAA...
