Cindy Perry, mayor of Pittsboro, has organized an anti gun rally at the Chatham County court house tomorrow evening...

Anybody heard about any counter protest to this upcoming gun protest? Anybody here planning to go?

I saw online that a few people are saying she purposefully chose to have the rally on Wednesday evening when most Republicans will be in church service or Bible study classes at their churches.

"Motivated by the atrocities of this past week and the lack of anybody doing anything....join us on the Old Courthouse Lawn on Wednesday evening August 14 from 6-8 pm for a peaceful vigil.

This is not just about thoughts and prayers, flags at half staff and fleeting remembrances of the 50+ mass shootings since Columbine in 1999.

This is about our town, our state, our nation. It is about safety and children growing up without fear of being shot at school, at the movie theater or on the playground.

Join us to Do Something! We will do it peacefully, profoundly and politically.

Call or email for additional ideas for this vigil/rally.

Cindy Perry

You’ll not get gun owners to act until the government passes enough laws that they no longer can take a gun out of their home unless it’s a single shot hunting rifle. It would be nice to be proactive but it is how people are. As BatteryOaks has stated many times, we are less than 8 years from serious gun limits.

Well even if you do organize something, in any form, the other side cowers and accuses you of hate crimes.
I already thought about that... I hope a bunch of open carry dudes do not show up on the other side of the street... The mayor and her goobers would call the police to stop them from "menacing" or something...

So...lemme get this perfectly clear...instead of doing nothing and offering thoughts and prayers and half flags...we will all get together and hold a peaceful vigil...which is basically doing nothing but with extra steps to get nothing accomplished...

So how are we going to do this do it peacefully, profoundly and politically?
Does anyone think a rational conversation with statistics can be had with these folk?
How about a 'convince me table' setup?

No matter how you act the subject itself (guns) is evil and therefore a peaceful gathering in support of them is also evil. This is where the calling everything Nazi and professors swinging bike locks to crack skulls came into play.

Also they don't believe in statistics anymore because those and other forms of math are instruments of white supremacy (specifically colonization).

No part of this post is facetious-

What if....

We let them have their anti gun really tomorrow and NO pro gun people show up at all... They have their protest and it goes 100% peaceful...

Then, next week, we have a pro gun rally on the exact same spot. But, I guarantee you, the young anti gun (antifa wanna bes) will show up and start trouble... Thereby proving that the left is the side that can't keep themselves from using violence at every rally...

Don't counter protest her. Instead protest her reaction and comments regarding PFAS in the Haw river and which is the municipal water supply for Pittsboro. She states in the article that she doesn't want to create a panic about it. So use the liberal tactics against them, move the narrative to something more scary.

THAT'S news to me, and I live on the Haw. Now I need to find where to get our well water tested.
Thanks for the info!

I think holding a pro gun rally isn't a half bad idea.
Side note: do you subscribe to the Chatham chat list? I think you said something about it being intentionally held on a Wed, so I'm guessing you do. One person called it a statue protest ... Doh. I wrote the other reply calling BS on this event.

After a quick g00gle search, do you mean this or FakeBoook? It's one of the worst websites I've seen. http://www.chathamchatlist.com/

Yes, i saw it on the chatlist...

The chatlist website is archaic.

But, you can sign up for their daily email. Almost every day, i wake up to an email with 10-15 emails from individuals who live in Chatham county. Sometimes it's things for sale cheap, sometimes it's want ads, sometimes it's people voicing their opinion... But it's an interesting quick read each day.

I can probably stop in Pittsboro on the way home from work tomorrow.
I think we are leaning against any counter protest action. Don't want to show up and get painted as the bad guys who promote evil guns.

Then how about derailing it to what is needed, what's she (.gov) doing to stop the poisoning it's citizen's drinking water?

My wife just told me that we are not going to be in pittsboro tomorrow evening, so I'm not even going to get to drive past and look at the crowd.

I am interested to know how many gun control supporters show up for their vigil...

If anybody does drive by, please give us an update of how many people are out there.

Thank you!

Question already answered, but man that site is bad. Needs to turn off his PHP error messages for starters. There is a county "BBS" forum / website, but I don't go there much as its little more than a sandbox for a handful of trolls.

The most effective way to to be present - visible or not - and be polite. I wouldn't waste my time or breath trying to reason with the unreasonable.

Then follow them back to their cars and take pictures of faces and license plates. If questioned, tell them you're going to report them to Homeland Security for formenting state sponsored terrorism.

I went to a legislative hearing once and accused the bill sponsor of exactly that to his face. It was very gratifying.

Leave them alone and let them have their space. No sense letting them know who you are. If things ever get feisty it would be best if you weren’t a well known agitator. Might buy some time or peace.

just a few ideas for signs

SAFE DRINKING WATER FOR THE KIDS

MORE KIDS HURT BY PFAS THAN GUNS

SAVE OUR WATER

KIDS FOR SAFE WATER

THE HAW KILLS

PITTSBORO WATER = CANCER

Though the rates are ^high^ it makes me glad that we using the Goldston-Gulf system and get our water from a different source. Eww...

The deep river parallels the Haw by about 20 miles to the south east of it. They may start looking at the deep for contamination too.

I know some of the scientists who are working on this. His theory is that the furniture factories that used to be common in that area used a lot of varnish and other compounds that are finding their way into the river.

I went round the circle this morning and they had the barriers going up around the statue.

Bet on if the statue gets pulled down tonight too?

I rode by around 7 last night and they might have had 35 people out there. Looked like mostly women with some older men. I think there was one news crew filming someone giving a speech.

Protesters argue whether Pittsboro Confederate monument should come down
A Confederate monument in the center of Pittsboro is the center of an emotional argument: Should it stay or go?

Groups of demonstrators gathered around the statue Saturday, standing on opposite sides of the street.

“He represents the men who fought and died for this country to be free,” Barry Isenhour said at the demonstrations.

I rode by yesterday and looked at the protestors and counter protesters. There were a lot of sheriff's deputies standing watch to keep the peace.

It's funny that we are told on the news and the radio about how African Americans are the ones who hate the statues and want them taken down.

But yesterday, I only saw old white people protesting against old white people.

It just doesn't make sense to me...

You see the Coexist billboard with a pic of the statue on old 64 going west out of town? Was told it was put there by a predominatly African American organization.

I see that billboard a couple of times a week as I drive West on business. I give it a thumbs up every time I drive by.

Apparently this is getting some more traction. My neighbor is more than a bit pissed.

What's getting more traction? The statue or the gun billboard or something else?

The statue has had makeshift barriers around it for a few weeks now. Last I heard this was potentially being subject to legal challenges both on the basis of who owns/owned the statue and hence whether it is supposed to be protected by state statute, and also the closed door manner in which it's fate was allegedly decided.

I drove through Pittsboro last weekend. They are still protesting the statue. Funny as hell. There were 4 loser, aging hippies holding up a Black Lives Matter banner. They were all white. Not a black person in sight. Guess the commies are finally showing what morons they really are. But I was heartened by the fsck that their numbers were small. Maybe most people have realized what and who these wastes of human matter are.
