I am having trouble deciding on a 6mm projectile to use dual purpose for hunting and long range shooting. My barrel should be in before the end of October so trying to get some materials ordered and ready to go.

Currently stuck between the bullets below. I know the tipped bullets seem to be more consistent terminally, however the bergers have a good following and exceptional accuracy that's easy to tune. I am wanting to hear some experience with dual use on these bullets and terminal ballistics.

Hdy 103 ELD-x, moa accuracy, consistent performance
Hdy 108 ELD-m,
Berger 105 hunting vld, .5 moa accuracy, with less than consistent fragmentation/terminal performance
Berger 105 hybrid, forgiving with accuracy,

Barrel: 20" .243 Win 1:8" twist

Berger 105 hunting vld is what I've been running in the creedmoor and 243. The 1 deer I hit with it didn't go far, maybe 10 feet. At first I wasn't sure I hit her, then she just fell down. Was like she was dead on impact and just didnt know it.

Are they easy to tune or do you have to search for the seating depth/jump?

107 Amax if you can get them to shoot.

Looking for factory ammo with said projectile or hand loading? I replied to the original post before reading other replies...handloading since you’re asking about bullet jump.

Why those projectiles? Is that what you have on hand? I’d try the 95gr Barnes LRX. .436 G1, tipped copper bullet; the lighter weight could get you some speed, and it’s not so lightweight that it’s totally outclassed

I was initially between the LRX and eld-x. I started leaning away from the LRX after reading about unreliable expansion if you missed bone. I typically shoot behind the shoulder for deer and that was concerning to me.

I was going to suggest the TTSX which is primarily what I use but their 6mm TTSX is only 80gr. Would be a screamer but maybe too much speed unless you’ve got some distance. I haven’t used the LRX bullet.

I’d be inclined to go with the ELD-X. Affordable and accurate.

I sent an email to Berger this afternoon asking for load data on their 105 VLD hunting bullet. Anyone have any information they would like to share? I figure H4350 or H4831? Right now I'm getting 0.5" groups at 100 (5 rounds) with Sierra 107 MK's. If anyone is interested I'll be happy to post whatever Berger data I receive. My 6mm CM weighs in at 15 pounds so I'm limited to one or two hunting stands that have a built-in bench but I hate having a "virgin" rifle in the safe. I have two rifles that haven't killed anything. The other is a 338 LM! Should be fun! :D

Got out today with the berger 105gr hybrids. I’m pretty sure I found the lower node for my barrel.

Next I need to verify this continues out past 100 yards and is relatively temp stable.

IMR 4350
2.82 oal

Group measures .628”
.385” if you subtract the bullet diameter
Im pretty excited with these results so far!

This brings up another question.

The first round shot out of the magazine always shot low left out of group, see above. This was consistent for each of 3 groups. Is this normal?

Sierra Gameking 85gr hpbt may be worth a look also.

Anyone using the 143gr ELDX bullet from hornady? I just got a 6.5 and was looking at that bullet as my go to. But if anyone has experience with it in hunting situations or knows of something thats better id love some input.

My son was going to dump his .243 Sako L579 Forrester because of lack of DRT. He popped a 12pt massive buck in the neck, we tracked the blood for 150+ yards and it disappeared. A few months later it was found and he blew 1/2 of a neck vertebrae off.
I ordered a box of 105g VLD's, after that they dropped in place. Sometimes a VLD can be a pain to get to perform. In his 243, my Sako 7mm-08 and 6.5G AR they're tack drivers with 0.005"-0.010" jump. We've changed over to the Hybrids due to simplicity.

I am liking the hybrids so far also. Were yall able to try them out on any whitetails this year?

What is the twist rate of the Sako?
I have had very good results from the factory Hornady Superformance 95gr sst ammunition in my factory 1:10 twist hunting rifles. Devastating to anything from coyote to whitetail.

I don’t recall the 243’s twist. It runs the 85-95g bullets best. The 105’s won’t group.

There's a couple load data pages in that thread for it that adam sent me.

Thanks! Have you been liking the performance of the bullet desgin? Ive heard a bunch of people saying they fail to penetrate bone or just fail in general.
I didn't hunt with it last year, but it was good to see the devastating cavity on that doe. The 130 berger for the 260 was amazing as well. I took a running buck at just under 300 yards and he didn't know what hit him, he just slid into a pile. Drove out and loaded him in the back of the truck. I think there's a thread in the processing section that may have pics.
