My .45 1911 is heavier than I want to carry. Pocket carried a J-frame in .38 for a while & while I could shit it accurately OR I could shoot it quickly, but not both. My G26 however, has 12 rds on tap & I shoot it well. Same with my LC9s, for when I don't want to deal with concealing my (fat) baby Glock.

I do not.

This is because, of the two pistols I own, I prefer my Colt 1991A1, which is .45 acp. The other pistol is my Beretta 92SF, in 9mm.

I have carried my Beretta concealed before, and shoot it quite well. I just like the feel and carry of my Colt much better.

That said, if my Colt were unavailable, I wouldn't hesitate to carry my Beretta. Or, if I should buy another pistol chambered in 9mm which offers suitable advantages, I would carry that as well.

For example, my wife has a PPK/S. This is a .380, or as it's otherwise known "9mm kurtz" (German for 9mm short). Same caliber, shorter cartridge. It has some nice size advantages I wouldn't mind for easier carry in some circumstances.

HOWEVER...my ploy to have my wife give me her pistol has long since failed. Though she DID leave me an out when she said "Get your own!"

:D

I kinda regret getting rid of a Sig P230. Great gun, awesome even, but seemed 'silly' in comparison to smaller & lighter 9mm options available.

I really, really liked the Ruger SR9C, but shot the G26 better & went that route instead. For some reason, I didn't shoot the G30 well at all, so that nixed a .45 Glock for me. If Ruger had released a SR45C, I'd most likely be carrying that.

I commonly carry a .380 and 9mm. I occasionally carry a .40 s&w and a .44 special. Depends on the weather and how heavily I am dressed. The .44 is my favourite but it is bulky. I occasionally carry a .45acp doubletap as a backup. The only way I carry extra ammo is inside a second gun.

Ask Billy if you can try his g21 (?) with the flames on the slide! It was awesome to shoot, he did some stuff to the grip, and it was totally shoot-able for me. I want one just like it!

Don’t flames damage the holster?

Great article in The Blue Press. Please, get it and read it. This very Poll proves the author's point. The title of the article is....Why The .45 ACP Failed.
He pointed out that at a major match recently there were TWO shooters using .45s. Great read. And this poll bears it out.

Very interesting article (p.10) -- thanks for the heads-up!

Side note: we've come a long way from the armchair analysts' Miami Dade shootout ridiculous anti-9mm arguments, haven't we?

While not popular in competition - it is way easier to shoot 9mm fast and accurately as opposed to 45 - AND I agree that the 1911 is not as popular as it once was - I won't be parking my 45 carry guns anytime soon.

I have never been a 1911 fan. Not reliable enough, for me. For serious purpose anyway. I have always preferred S&W 3rd gen 45s.

And what the Famous But Incompetent have to say about the 9mm being deadly again means nothing. Budgets and affirmative action have more to do with them going to 9mm than ballistics do.

But the "9mm vs 45" will continue to burn bandwidth for decades to come. Interesting article though! :) Regards 18DAI

I believe Sig refers to it as "Robin Egg Blue with a slight Tiffany hue". :p

About 1/3 of the time.

Sometimes a Sig P229 (9mm)

Sometimes a Sig P220 (.45)

Sometimes a 1911 (.45)

I would carry a 1911 in 9mm if I can get a Sringfield EMP4

I would carry my 9mm 1911 if it would behave and quit having issues! LoL. I did carry it for almost 4 weeks before it decided to act up. Awesome gun...when it's being good!

What's it doing to you young lady?

What brand/model?

I USUALLY carry my 1911. When I did ride the motorcycle I was worried about an AD if it, and I, became seperated from thd bike. I thought the DA/SA actio. Of the Sigs were safer in case of an off. A Sig 229 with a 3.9 barrel is similar in size to an Officers 1911.

Thanks for the "young lady"....lol.
It's a long story, mostly told in my threads since March or so. "Troubleshooting a 1911" probably has the most info, but long story short: failures to feed, intermittently, arbitrarily. We're all sick and tired of the gun story! But I still love the RIA, and I shoot it all the time. It was my first 1911. Maybe that's why I've become so attached to it. lol.

If I may be so bold to offer a suggestion out of the blue ( and my ignorance). I am just a fat old man but I had had similar issues with .45 caliber 1911s. If it happens with FMJ ammo is one thing. Sometimes the differing Hollow Point configurations can create issues too.

I won't buy ANY magazines for mine that are not made by Bill Wilson. I only use 47D Wilson Combat Mags and have no issues. If I tried that and polished the feed ramp a smidge and it did not work flawless, I would sell it.

So far the .45 1911 is going great, and it's awesome to shoot. lol. The .45 does have a Wilson Combat magazine (I think), but the 9mm has the one RIA sent after the "repair" and some CMC magazines. It's been tried with others.

I've never used anything but fmj in either 1911. I'll be sending it back for a replacement soon. (Unless I can talk them into replacing just the slide and its parts to see if that will help. All they did was give me a new extractor and a new mag last time.)

FWIW, I would buy a Wilson mag. They make 9mm mags for a 1911. Might even give them a call.

Just $0.02 from an old fat man.

Good luck dear, let me know what works please.

I'll certainly give them a try. Thanks!

I too was a slave to the Wilson Brand. A few weeks ago I had a conversation with John Travis on a PM. I told him I was going to do an experiment with 15 1911 pistols in rotation. 10 Colts and some others for good measure. I am now in several weeks and several rounds down range...with no Malfunctions that could possibly be remotely magazine related.
The "spearment" was I am Only using U.S. WWII or earlier straight lipped ,or hard ball as we used to call them magazines.
Sooooo, guns in "spec" using WWII technology and Hardball=No Malfunctions.
Just THE reason me and mine run Ball in our guns. Life Can be easy IF you allow it.

Bill Wilson in his book says...I am amazed that people will spend Thousands of dollars on a hand built gun and then search high and low for a round that it will Not feed.

I have Several 1911s. In the 1970s we carried guns that we spent Hundreds of dollars on, more than the cost of the guns, with Great gunsmiths to have a gun that would Absolutely function [sorta]. Today we can buy guns for $400 that will outperform anything we had...insofar as reliability.

I have the top shelf of my safe with a Bunch of 1911s . In them All only 1 for sale, a new Ruger Commander, the rest will be there for a long while. I will NOT venture outside the gates with one , I have other stuff for that.

The Ruger is quite possibly Better than any of the other guns , BUT, it is new. It has no Soul. See ya'll the 19th!

Well stated, and hard to argue with anything you've stated sir!

What few ills I have had with my Kimber, Springfield or Colt 1911s have been quite easily narrowed down to a visibly worn extractor or magazine springs. I am not sure if it's the angle, the rounded follower (vs flat) or just damn luck. But using a Wilson mag normally fixed it...

...probably just luck huh!

So, what pray tell do you consider the quintessential level of firearm flawlessness; are you Gucci Glock guy?

No, you don't seem the type to have a tricked out purple plastic gun with a 32 round magazine and a red dot on top.

My guess is that you're an all metal CZ kinda guy!

Billy has a bit of everything down there. Im pretty sure he has (or has had) one each of everything lmao
I'll let him tell you what he carries...but my guess is you'll be at least a little surprised.
And, no...it's not a CZ lol

I carried the 938 for about 6 months but switched back to a colt light weight defender 1911,
My ria commander in 45 shot the last two idpa matches without a hiccup, got another coming up next week I'll let you know if the streak continues

On that count Ben you are correct. As to what I carry..I am in a constant evolution. For many years it was a full size Colt 1911 or a Commander...then a decade of 2 J Frames...To simplify things for you I Always carry 2 Always. I carried 2 G26s for a long time, then 2 G43s. Inside the Gates I usually carry a G26 with G19 mags and sleeves. Outside the Gates I carry differently. Last week all week I carried 2 LCPs and a Taurus Spectrum, all 3 loaded with Underwood Ammo. This coming week I am back to 2 J frames. Today on the Range I am going after the Wizard with a S&W Model 65.
As you see I am in a constant Flux. Mainly to TRY to stay proficient with all. Ha a great visit last week from @Have gun- will travel. We discussed the fact that for us shooting is a perishable skill. I shoot Every Day.
What ever I happen to be carrying on any day..I Never feel undergunned...or undermanned. I shoot every day!

To @draco88 point. If I had the Availability of the CZ 75 in the 70-80 period of my life, it Would have been on my hip! Now..I am old and it pulls my pant down. I am down to one now, But I won't be down to 0. He and it have won me over.
The only reason I didn't have a CZ before was because I wanted the one Not available then and that is not made now. I held out til I got what I wanted. The installation of a Beretta 13 pound hammer spring makes it a true Wonder 9.

Still carrying a 45acp while I still can (shoot it). Arthritis. But I have a Springer EMP4 CC waiting in the safe.
