So I was passing a Popeye's and decided what the hell... Drive-thru was around the building and out to the highway but the dining room was mostly empty. Took me about 8-10mins to get in and out... Employees were very nice helpful. The customers (mostly old white women) were acting like assholes. Really sad...

Thoughts on the food... I got a sandwich meal with fries and a spicy sandwich for comparison. Obviously the competition is Chick-Fil-A since that's what they clearly based their sandwich on. I had their fried chicken many years ago but I don't remember anything about it. So I won't discuss the rest of the menu. They have all sorts of other stuff too. This is just about the sandwich meal hype...

The regular sandwich was a good size piece of meat with two pickles and "mayo" on a basic bun comparable to Chick-Fil-A. The pickles were a little thicker than Chick-Fil-A, the mayo was sweet like miracle whip, and the bun was fine. The patty was a good chunk of breast meat with a good bit more breading than Chick-Fil-A. Think Smithfield's fried chicken thick, like old school fried. Not quite as juicy, but really good flavor. Could have been crispier, but it was in one of those foil bags and steamed itself a little. Probably doesn't travel well, but I bet it is better if you eat it in the store.

The spicy sandwich was the same but the "mayo" stuff was orange and seasoned, and the breading on the chicken had what appeared to be a dry seasoning and some sort of oil maybe, like Nashville hot chicken without the heat. It was tasty but not hot, just spicy. I would have enjoyed it more if it was hotter.

The Cajun fries were meh... Waffle fries at Chick-Fil-A are so much better...

Didn't try the tea as they were out of unsweet. Diet Coke is their only other sugar free option...

All in all, it was pretty good. I would eat it again, but I wouldn't search it out. Chick-Fil-A is better overall, IMO. Though they're close enough that I can see lots of folks preferring Popeye's style better.

Final thought... If the spicy sandwich and was hotter I would crush those regularly. Everyone phones in the heat on their spicy chicken sandwich though...

Thanks for the write up

I rarely have popeyes, just none close by (that I know of), but never had a bad experience there and have enjoyed their spicy chicken in the past
Id like to try the spicy chicken sandwich

No Popeye's near me but, when I travel, I seek them out as a stop off the interstate. I really like it.

I'm not a sandwich fan nor white meat fan so, I have not tried the sandwiches. That said, I have enjoyed Chick-Fil-A in the past and I will give them a try next trip.

According to the news, the uncontrollable stabbing urges come from not being able to eat one. If @bigfelipe starts jones for another sandwich but can't get one....watch out.
It's like a Snickers commercial, "here, have a Popeye's sandwich, youre really getting stabby lately"

Bloomberg wonā€™t let you order all that food if he is elected President ... especially a large size sugary drink :D.

I've tried neither CFA or Popeyes spicy chicken sandwich. How are they compared to Wendy's spicy chicken sandwich?

The Wendy's spicy chicken combo has not been the same since they quit serving Cheerwine.

Different... Mostly in that it's a piece of breaded chicken and not a frozen hunk of chicken parts in a breading like substance. Wendy's tastes good but it just isn't the same thing. It's noticeably phony tasting.

I don't do heat but do they offer heat in a package to put on?
Also, you don't do fries at Popeye's, you do their mashed taters.
Beans and rice deserve a try too.
I've yet to try the chicken sammich.
I'm waiting for the animals to get their fill.

Sandwiches abd fries are for eating on the fly... Chicken and mashed potatoes are for sitting down to eat. Not crushing mashed and gravy in the truck.

When Peltz the puttz used Arby's to buy Wendy's, the best chicken sandwich second to CFA changed to the Arby's type. Junk.

I really like CFA, but refuse to wait in line that long (crowds/people freak me out) & as much as I love the spicy chicken sandwich & the waffle fries, I always feel still hungry afterwards, like I shoulda ordered an extra sandwich or something.

Used to love Popeyes, but after the one in Graham started charging Applebee's prices for kids' meal portions, I'll not be back. Shame, 'cos I used to love their chicken & the catfish po' boys, but they've lost their damn minds IMO.

I will go to Chick-Fil-A at 12:30 no problem. They have the drive-thru down to a science. It may wrap around the building, but it still only takes a few minutes to get through it. It's really impressive.

Can't speak to Popeye's price point. The chicken sandwich meal was like $6 and some change plus tax and one sandwich would be fine. I only got two because I'm a fat ass. At Chick-Fil-A I often get a spicy sandwich meal and an 8- count nugget. Should probably do without that too...

Ding, ding, ding.

That place is so damn good.

And I feel funny saying this, but O'Charley's has a pretty damn good Nashville style chicken sandwich.

O'charley's? They still exist? Thought they were all out of business...

Dang, I used to work at wendys back in the day.
I spent many hours hand breading fresh chicken breasts.
It hurts deeply that this is no longer the case!

I had to try it last Friday at lunch time. I waited 14 minutes after i ordered (inside) & received an overcooked room temperature chicken sammich. The flavor was good but the rest was crap.
But, at least you apparently got out in one piece. ;)

Kinda what I have been hearing. Poor customer service, slow, and a crapshoot on whether it's fresh or not. As opposed to Chic-fil-a where you may get a sub par product 1 time in 100...

$2. MCD Southern Chicken Biscuit, they pressure cook it, not bad, toss an egg on it and pretty good.
