Watches

It's the weekend work watch today. I believe I picked it up from here.

That's a fair watch, but I don't like the gaudiness of Navy SEAL brandished on everything. Gaudy marketing ploy on a watch that can stand by itself.

Shopping for a second watch. This time I want a chronograph. I really like the ones geared towards auto racing of the 60s and 70s and wanted an automatic. Also a must was a tach dial and date is a nice to have.

Initially I had my heart set on this but it is spendy and don’t necessarily want a 2nd Omega and 42mm case size is on the large size and would prefer a 39mm or 40mm.

Decided to see if anything new was out there closer to the racing style and found this.

The only issue is I’m not sure if this is a quality watchmaker and for the price I can get a decent used Speedmaster. The overall size and style is perfect. My concern is the brand.

I really like the style of watches they are producing and may take a swing at a lower price point first. I found this that could serve me on weekends as I typically don’t where my Seamaster on the weekends. I wasn’t looking for a diver but really like the dial, proportions, and overall style with lots of strap options.

Sorry for the lack of posting but here is my new seamaster

I like it!
I’ve serviced a couple of those.

It came serviced which was nice. It couldn’t be waterproofed but I never have my watches around water anyway. It took me forever to find an age appropriate link as it was just a tad too small.

Got it today and put it on. Next up will either be a mosaic date just or speedmaster.

Bought a Seiko 5 sport last month to replace my old Invicta pro diver. Still pining for an Omega someday, but this is a nice watch...

It's hard to beat a Seiko 5 for reliability and style for their price. You can purchase more than 20 Seiko 5's for the price of one Omega that looks very similar.

It's going to be a while before I can wear my Seiko 5 again. The band broke when my compound fractured forearm forced things apart, but it's still ticking. 20191130_071404.jpg

I have the gold Hamilton pocket watch that belonged to the man killer Walker Bethea. This past week my Aunt gave me his walking cane.
Sorry for hijacking but would this be the John W, Bethea of SC who was sued by Johnnie Walker Scotch in the 1960s for copyright infringement? IIRC it had something to do with a road house/hotel.

I'm a builder. I've tried that but wacked the body on everything. So went back to normal.

I don't keep my phone on me when I'm working because I'll break that too:rolleyes: so a watch is necessary. I'll take it off if I'm working in tight areas or if I'm using concrete but otherwise it's on.

At least for now the Seiko is holding up ok. Just a couple of light scratches. But it is winter so it's typically covered up. The band pin coming loose is annoying. It'll prolly get lost come tshirt weather:oops:

Just to update this. The Seiko 5 is holding tough, physically.

Band is almost shot. But for some reason the pins haven't popped out anymore.

The only issue, its a hige issue to me... damn thing loses time... i wear it 24/7 except when i shower.

But it loses probably a minute every three-four days... doubt its worth it to have a tune up, even if it can be fixed.

If it is a 7S26 movement, and depending on whether it needs to be serviced or not, it can probably be regulated to perform much better, especially if it is consistent. Accuracy is rated at -20/+40 seconds per day, so it is performing within factory specs.

No idea which movement it has or how to find out. It is consistent in that every fifth day or so i get annoyed and readjust lol.

Really? A full minute of swing variation in 24hrs? I had no idea that was to be expected.

Guess im used to my casio solar toughs that have never lost time. Never occured to me the spec could be that loose.

Thanks for the info. Very interesting:)

Edit to add: I'm pretty confident its losing almost a minute a day. Im going to reset again and keep track this go round

Your first post said a minute every 3-4 days. If it is really losing a minute a day, there is something wrong. That is not acceptable performance.

Often upon finishing a shooting block cadre would be gifted a knife and or a watch. We really appreciated just a simple thank you, the watch and knife were something special.
Today we have a Marathon JDD, my daily watch. I like the huge face which really wears comfortably. The knife was made by my grand father for his Marine brother fighting in the pacific in WW2. Salvaged drill bits where the road was being cut thru the mountains furnished the steel for the blade.

Everything was in short supply during the war. The handle is shoe soles, scrap plastic, anything available. The red at the hilt because he was a Marine. He wrote my grand father - the bayonets aren’t any good to fight with and I’ve broken the fighting knives. Make me a good pig sticker-

The handle is sized for a sure grip and allows slashing like a short sword. Silver Star on Iowa Jima, I have the pic. So young and they all have the 1,000 yard stare. He taught me a lot about guns and later fighting and cussing much to my mom’s dismay.

Every where we went in town men would nod and tell me -that man seen the Devil and killed him.

The case number will tell you what movement it has. It’s a two part number on the back for example 7S26-0029. The first part of the number is the calibre in this case 7S26. Yes the movement needs serviced.

I have my Grand Fathers 1913 Hamilton 974. It got me started in PW collecting.
