Found a couple of bottles I’ve been looking for. I have figured out that I like wheated bourbons so I was glad to find the Makers. The large Weller 12 was just a want as was the Aberlour.
Happy Thanksgiving to all and happy hunting. Cheers!

I will be at your house this weekend after the turkey.

Great score. Let use know how the Aberlour and the Markers is.

You’ve been killing it lately! You’re not exactly slumming at your crib. Happy Thanksgiving!

I
Can report on the Aberlour. Disclaimer: I’m suffering from a raging case of creepy crawly crud. Taste buds are a little shot. However; this stuff is fantastic. Neat, very well balanced. Little heat. Not sherry cask, but Bourbon. Adds heather, honey, raisins, tobacco. If your not feeling the peat, or the sherry, this stuff is your jam. Robust and complex, to me this stuff is delicious. I will be finding a back up bottle of this nectar. Cheers!

Stopped in the Kannapolis Parkway ABC yesterday and picked up a McKenna 10 and Four Roses SiB. Nothing fancy but two solid bourbons I like to keep around.

Sorry to diverge from the expensive liquor thread :D

My latest alchol purchase was Green Man ESB. It was.......meh. I have gotten on the ESB kick since several local breweries have been making some good ones. I like Angry Troll's take on the ESB and I love the Cabarrus ESB on nitro draft.
A lager honestly doesn't get much better than those 2.

Not really what I was expecting. Thought it would be a little older. They said that this is all that came in. They also had some Buffalo Trace with a single barrel sticker on it. Not sure if it is different than the regular BT. I have been eyeing the Makers for a few weeks and on another form they were talking about the Haven;'s Door.

When I got home from work today a friend called and said that he would be in Savannah over the weekend and I knew that he liked Scotch so I ran back to a different package shop. The guy there said that The Balvenie 14 was good and I saw a bottle of Weller SR behind the counter. It had to follow me home. Is that scotch any good?

I like it, it's not peaty. Definitely an easy drinker without the taste of road tar.

RR, you were about 1.5 miles from the house. We went to the same store on Saturday.

My company has an office just down the road from there. I'll be there this afternoon too.

One of my all time favorite Scotches.

Weller CYOB

I recently scored one of these. Anybody have opinions on it?

The missus picked me up a few bottles for my 50th birthday & our 13th anniversary (both coming up right after Christmas). She traditionally gets me a bottle of Oban for our anniversary & the last few years have been either 14, couple different year Distiller's Reserve, or Little Bay, so she stepped it up a little. She also knows that Jameson is my preferred whiskey in almost all its variants (except the Caskmates IPA- gross) & that I'm also a big fan of Glenlivet.

I'm super stoked about that Jameson. Every one of their 18 y/o variants has been superb, so this oughtta be fun at 110 proof. I'll be a good sport & wait till the appropriate celebration to get into them, since she also picked me up a Talisker Storm & a bottle of Kilbeggan.

If yer a fan of Irish whiskey, the Kilbeggan is a very nice whiskey for a VERY nice price. https://internetwines.com/products/kilbeggan-irish-whiskey

Alright I've pretty much ended my drinking after getting too carried away for several years. I still for the past 3 years buy a bottle on my birthday to share a sip when friends come over. My favorites were Bullet, Buffalo Trace, and Woodford Reserve. Today's the day and I'm going to buy a bottle, if you could buy a bourbon in the ~40-80$ range what would you get? I wasn't much of fan of the rye blends.

Thanks

tod0987, I would look for Buffalo Trace (~$30), one of my go to is Bib & Tucker (~$45) or Basil Hayden (~$45). These are good every day sippers IMHO. Moving up in price and proof, Col. Taylor or Uncle Nearest (100 proof not the 80).

If you liked Buffalo Trace then the next logical step is to grab the same juice aged longer, Eagle Rare, for $34.95 plus tax.

Colonel E.H. Taylor Small Batch at $39.95 is from the same distiller and is generally highly regarded. But also not always easy to find.

But lots of good choices if those are not available.

Wild Turkey Distillery is often overlooked but has some SPECTACULAR choices in that price range.

Wild Turkey Rare Breed and Russell's Reserve are two good ones.

I REALLY enjoy Old Grand Dad Bonded. It's a favorite of mine and it costs a whooping $23.95.

Wise words from a wise man! Great advice...... Cheers!

Thanks @KnotRight & @thrillhill for the help. I came up with a list and went to the biggest ABC store in Greenville tonight. They didn't have any Colonel (was my first choice) or Eagle Rare. I ended up with a pint of Basil Haydens and a 5th of Bib & Tucker. I've got a good list now and stashed it away for next time. Thanks again & Cheers!

Scored a bottle of Glenmorangie 18yr today as a gift. Cant wait to pour a glass. Pretty sure I have had it once before..like 11 years ago.

Picked these up Thursday from my local shop. Still can’t find any McKenna 10 year BiB locally, though.

Picked up the early times a couple weeks ago. It’s OK. I didn’t see the Old Grand-Dad, will have to swing by this week and see if they still have some.

Are you coming to the RTP area for the holidays? It is all over the place up here. PM me your travel route and I’ll point you to a store that should have it, or I have 1-2 bottles for you if needed.

I was hoping that they guy did not pick up the bottle of Eagle 17. Was told if he does not pick it up by today I can have it. My luck it was gone. The guy at the shop said that he had some Elijah Craig and said I was not a fan of EC. Then he said it was the 18 year old. Never had the 18 before so decided to take it home with me.
Anybody tried it? For the price I hope it is better than the regular EC.

Found a bottle of Very Old Barton today on our ABC store’s one-per-day shelf. Only one left. Pretty good drink for the money. I was surprised.

todays haul. The Dewars was supposed to be the 27. Sent me the 21 instead. Been that kind of week! The Aberlour Is a second bottle for one I really enjoy. The Old Fitz is a $15 ish bottle that a business associate of mine said was his favorite “budget” bourbon. Enough of a recommendation for me to try it. Cheers!
