Right now I'm going to admit to being stupid and I'm used to doing this... Think of as a public service announcement ??
Well, I was installing a new fiber optic rear sight on my 9 mm 1911, it needed to filed down a bit to fit and I guess I went a lil to far. It held in place for about 300 rounds with out any troubles until match day. The first stage, I was missing a lot and then I noticed the rear sight had worked loose and was drifting left and right. Luckily my shooting partner brought his spare 1911 and I was able to complete the day. So I bought some lock tite to stick the rear sight, I used the new green which is low strength but very liquid. Put the gun away and the next weekend before I went to the range for some practice I checked the gun. I cant pull the slide back and realized that Ive lock tited the slide to the frame. I guess some of the excess lock tite ran down into the slide rails and I didn't notice it..Took me quite a while to free up the slide using a rubber hammer and even more time to clean the adhesive from the rails. This was my stupid human trick of the year. Can anyone beat this?

Yeah, you can say you're a dummy all you like, but until we get pics.....well, you know what they say, right? LoL.

You shoulda waited till January to do this...you know, knock out next years oopsie early lmao

I bought a CZ P01 off a lefty and had to switch the mag release button back. Theres a staked screw that holds the button spring in place and once broke loose, they can work loose under recoil and cause problems.
So, I switch everything over, and put a few drops of green loctite in the screw hole, and screw the screw back in.
Unknown to me, I overfilled the screw hole and the screw pushed some loctite out. It ran down into the mag release assembly, set up overnight, and locked everything up pretty good lol.
Took a while, and not a little effort, to break it back loose and get everything to function smooth again.

And, before anyone says it, my wife has already instructed me to put loctite on the screw itself next time.
I promise I knew that already lmao

Screw that. I know what loctite looks like. I wanna see hammer on rail.
You missed it,, Just imagine some one wacking the heck out of a gun front back left and right with a large rubber hammer, then watch them thinking they might have to throw the gun away. Then, they get a lit bit of movement and the beatings renew agin.. Finally get the slide back enough to get the release pin out and the recoil spring,, more wacking and the slide finally flies off bouncing across the garage concrete floor. This is NOT one of my finer moments and the cuss words fly.. No harm done tho,, some light very small file action with some brake clean and all is good again..

Dammit. I miss all the good stuff.

Just how much loctite was used in order for it to run down and lock up the rails? Are you buying the stuff by the bucket
G Town wrench,, like you Ive been in the business for a long time.. I was expecting this new green t0 be thick like the blue and red, but its thinner then water?? I pushed the sight on and I guess the excess ran down faster then I could wipe it off.. Sets up fast too, like super glue. Never seen anything like it from Lock Tite..

When I installed my trijicon night sights front blade I beat it so hard I crushed the metal tube that protects the glass tube. And the glass tube.

And it still wasn't ****ING staked properly.

What’s the right way to fix this? Is Locktite 243 the right stuff? Or is a raising a dimple with a punch a better way to improve the fit?

Thanks for posting. I appreciate learning from others mistakes :)

Think about putting the loctite on, then having to remove it, so using a ton of heat, and melting plastic fantastic internals in gun. That happened to a buddy of mine!

Happily, my CZ at the time didn't have plastic parts. I would have done the same. I installed a rear sight using the loctite that came with an MI rail. It was green and it was a bitch to get heated enough to remove!

Hey @Geezer, I just thought of a great new way to tighten slide to frame for super accuracy!!!! Note to self....don't forget to load a round first for easy "first opening".
beat me to it.
I was going to point out how much money some people pay to get good tight 1911 rails, and he figured out the trick to do it for just a couple bucks.

Well, this year I've shot .380 rounds in not one, but TWO of my 9mm guns....does that beat yours? LOL.

In surprising outcomes, the problematic RIA 1911 9mm which sometimes refuses to shoot actual 9mm, did perfectly with the .380 rounds, while the perfection of my G19 did not enjoy those few .380 rounds at all, and pretty much refused to work! Go figure.....lol.

So, do I win the "prize idiot" prize or not?

Millie this not a prize you want,, your going to have to try harder.

I bought a Walther P22 and decided I was going to try and make a gun mold from it. Got the casting kit. Built a box to make the silicone mold.

Do you know how much silicone a P22 can hold? Do you know how hard it is to get silicone out of a P22 when it’s completely locked up? Did you know that almost nothing is a solvent for silicone? That gun was useless for right at a year before I got it apart and cleaned.

I got a mold cast but was so annoyed by the process I never bothered to re cast it to get a better one.

Try using an automatic center punch to divot the dovetail (of sight). This should displace minimal amount and the good thing is you can start with two punches, check tightnesss, then all 4 corners if still needed etc.

I had luck with this for a rear sight universal mount on a Glock to add vortex. Was very loose initially. I did all 4 corners and snug as a mofo.

The auto punches are like 10-15 bucks. Very rarely do you need for anything else in normal life unless you work a lot with steel or build AKs.

if you nearby happy to loan one if you want to give it a try

We have made many LC Smith butt plates and guns and Hands [ask @Lil D], using Alginate Impression material. Easy to work.

Cheaper to buy after all that work. I’ve even bought the real guns and turned a serious profit on some of them.

So you're saying a Bluegun would have been a better alternative.

So you're saying a Bluegun would have been a better alternative.

At the time they didn't make one, and I was feeling frisky and cheap. Which got me in over my head. I've gotten better at saying, "Sorry, I don't have that gun and they don't make a mold for it. Maybe you can find someone locally to work from yours."
