Let's say you could go on vacation the first two weeks of March. Where would you want to go? We will say within 500 miles driving of the Charlotte area.
No Washington DC
No Nashville
No Disney

Save my money and stay home.
Outerbanks...Bald Head island if I could afford it. Most peaceful place around. Will be cold, but an awesome way to get away from the world.
You been reading my mind?
Wife and I just had this discussion yesterday. We settled on 3 days in Savannah, GA.
My mother in law called and want's to go somewhere for spring break. Not sure exactly what she is thinking. It could be 500 miles or 5,000 miles she is unpredictable. She has been chanting Greece and Alaska forever and a day but I don't think FIL is up to it.
We always loved Savannah, GA.
If you go the 5,000 mile route I suggest Banff National Park!

I'll second this...
Ocracoke or Hatteras would be my pick, but you can't really go wrong with just about any spot on the banks.
Charleston, SC. 3.5 hours 209 miles
Savannah, Ga. 4.0 hours 252 miles
Fernandina Beach and Amelia Island 5.5 hours 372
We prefer Charleston but all three are great.
I hate the obx!

Another Outer Banks vote but I say the northern end up towards Duck and Corolla. That time is still “off season” rates and you can rent a beachfront house pretty reasonably. One we rent is Heavenly Daze in Corolla and last time off season was $1000 for week and with a taxes and rental fees right at $1300 per week.
If she wants to go for spring break, head down to Panama City Beach. After that she might never want to go to spring break again. My mother in law called and want's to go somewhere for spring break. We did Alaska in the Summer of 2018, Greece is next on the list for the Summer of 2021.
Wow! It's like we're twins. Do you also drive a F250?
We haven't been to Gatlinburg in about 10 years that might be a good idea.If they like being entertained, then go on a cruise or something perhaps.
There is also Gatlinburg...decent comedy shows, a bird sanctuary, Dollywood, Buds Gunshop, Smokey Mountain Knife Works...
I was going to post that, but googled the distance first and it didn’t meet his 500 mile requirement.Philadelphia if you like American history.
If you make it to Patriots Point add a helicopter tour to the itinerary.Another vote for Charleston. Take horse drawn buggy tours. Do the Dark Side of Charleston tour. Visit Rusty Bull (if you like beer) or Firefly (if you prefer spirits).
Patriots Point and Ft. Sumter are cool if he can handle the exertion.
