Let's say you could go on vacation the first two weeks of March. Where would you want to go? We will say within 500 miles driving of the Charlotte area.

No Washington DC
No Nashville
No Disney

GO!

Winterplace, WV. Should still be skiing in early March. <200 miles away.

Outerbanks...Bald Head island if I could afford it. Most peaceful place around. Will be cold, but an awesome way to get away from the world.

Save my money and stay home.

Not paying just need ideas.

They are not the relaxing type. They like to be entertained or at least have something to do.

X 2 what Sniffler said.

Lots to do in Charleston.

I would like to see Savannah again. Haven't been there since I was a kid!

You been reading my mind?

Wife and I just had this discussion yesterday. We settled on 3 days in Savannah, GA.

My mother in law called and want's to go somewhere for spring break. Not sure exactly what she is thinking. It could be 500 miles or 5,000 miles she is unpredictable. She has been chanting Greece and Alaska forever and a day but I don't think FIL is up to it.

We always loved Savannah, GA.

I'll second this...

Ocracoke or Hatteras would be my pick, but you can't really go wrong with just about any spot on the banks.

Another Outer Banks vote but I say the northern end up towards Duck and Corolla. That time is still “off season” rates and you can rent a beachfront house pretty reasonably. One we rent is Heavenly Daze in Corolla and last time off season was $1000 for week and with a taxes and rental fees right at $1300 per week.

If they like being entertained, then go on a cruise or something perhaps.

There is also Gatlinburg...decent comedy shows, a bird sanctuary, Dollywood, Buds Gunshop, Smokey Mountain Knife Works...

I second OBX, but I'd want to stay somewhere no more north than Rodanthe, but not as far south as Ocracoke.

For more isolation there are a number of rentals up that way that are only 4x4 accessible. They look like roads on the map, but it's just sand.

I hear Geezer has a spare bedroom over in the Lone Star state. Only requirement is that you wear daisy dukes.

...I’m a rural mountain guy, so I can’t help but recommend blue ridge mountains.

Another vote for Charleston. Take horse drawn buggy tours. Do the Dark Side of Charleston tour. Visit Rusty Bull (if you like beer) or Firefly (if you prefer spirits).

Patriots Point and Ft. Sumter are cool if he can handle the exertion.

If she wants to go for spring break, head down to Panama City Beach. After that she might never want to go to spring break again.

We haven't been to Gatlinburg in about 10 years that might be a good idea.

Philadelphia if you like American history.
I was going to post that, but googled the distance first and it didn’t meet his 500 mile requirement. :(

Savannah, GA.
8th Air Force museum, cartage rides, ghost walks, etc.
Then drive to Charleston and go by Patriots Point and again cartage rides and ghost walks.
Both have a lot of nice places to eat.

If you make it to Patriots Point add a helicopter tour to the itinerary.
