So shoulda started this with our gray’s peak trip as it was our “prep” trip for the altitude but the wife and I are in Africa about to attempt Kilimanjaro. We start ascending later tonight for all back home but early AM for us... I’ll take lots of pics and post when we get back down. We’ve been here a couple days and have hit a couple parks. I was against coming here but it is pretty damned phenomenal.., pics from riding around posted below.. I took better ones with my camera that I’ll post when we get home..

I was terminal at Kibo Hut. Mine is the face of failure :(. Altitude sickness kicked my butt at 15000ft - I was the equivalent of blind drunk in this photo. Good luck to you both I hope you get to see the sun rise at the rim!

The peak was littered with people... apparently a full moon summit, is very desired.. so hard to get pics at the sign but the views and sunrise was amazing

The view from the top must really be awesome in person.
Congrats on making/surviving the trek.
Where to next?
Some of us working stiffs are stuck on the hamster wheel, so you need to do some living for us.

This trip will be it for quite a while.. burnt up most of my vacation time and no telling what I’ll be walking into at work on Saturday

Damn. That's a tough chick you married! Helluva story...

Wow, tough girl!
I hope she heals up with no after-effects.

That's hard core on a busted leg.

As much as I really, really did not care for that continent, there's no denying that parts of Africa are breath taking.

Dang Chuck, you got yourself one tough gal there.
Probably tougher than you I'm guessing.
Hope all the best for her healing.
Beautiful pics of Africa.

Awesome trip! Thanks for sharing the pictures! Hope the wife heals well. @Catfish you get a consolation prize too. ;)

Hey do they still have that crazy outhouse at Kibo Hut? It was built on a platform overhanging a sheer cliff at least 100 ft high with nothing but a cool breeze below your cheeks.

Not that I know of... above is the one and only encounter I had with their out houses... look closely....apparently someone thought it was clean enough to have their toothbrush in there. The whole hover-hole thing is an ok concept but no one seems to hit the hole.. I used rocks and bushes after this.. this was the one at the start of the trail.

Nice, I climbed Mt Kenya back in 97 or 98'. Its the second highest mountain in Africa at 5199m/17,057'. This was at the end of an multi National Army Exercise.
