Hernia Repair

30-40 minutes either walk or bike gets me about 2.5 miles walk and about 8-10 miles bike. Diet for me was eliminating the obvious carbs. No potato or pasta sides but not worrying about the carbs in vegetables or a thin breading in chicken occasionally. No more sodas, just water and two cups of coffee in the morning. I will have a pour of bourbon in the evening though. My body still produces insulin or I would still need to be on it. I was able to find what works for my body though.
I think most important has been consistency. Smaller portions of food even if it means eating more often to maintain energy and sugar levels. And exercising daily. It is easy to find any reason not to do it and I am certainly not a fitness junky by any means. I used to say if you see me running you better run faster than me because something big is chasing me. I was told by the dietician that diabetes is managed three ways: diet, exercise, and medication. Pick two. My father was dead by 55 because he didn’t manage his diabetes well. I am determined to see my children grow up.
Sorry for the derail...and now back to your regularly scheduled hernias.
On that note, I thought I was good to go a few days after the surgery and tried exercising again. DON’T DO IT! Ease back into anything strenuous, it took me about 2 1/2 weeks before I was walking my 2.5 miles again and just now almost 4 weeks before I am back up to pace.

edit to add: the 4 am wake up is because I am too likely to make excuses at the end of the day when I am already tired or have other things that need doing. I have always been a morning person and it just comes a little earlier now.
I thank you for the details!
This week I’m heavier than I’ve ever been, just walked a quick 1/3 mile, at 54 I’m surprised that 10lbs doesn’t fall off by skipping a couple meals in a week. o_O

Full disclosure I got a little lazy with some carbs over the holidays and post surgery I need to get back on it and drop 10 again too.

Big difference in surgery for this now. Had one repaired in 1981. Big scar and a 5 day hospital stay.

I have the same thing, but they won’t operate while my blood glucose is this high.

Hang in there @Geezer
Let us know how this goes, I have one poking out beside my belly button that I have been putting off.

Hopefully, it’ll be nothing more than a vague memory in a week if you keep a jar beside of yer easy chair!
From one “dislocated” Hillbilly to another, “y’uns take er easy and don’t get stoved up!”

I had to get one of those situations. Put up with it for a few years until I had 3 testicles. Doctor said I get it fixed or likely get to wear a bag on my hip to crap in. I had a few options, sewing it back together, putting in mesh, or a badminton birdie type device. Ended up with the birdie device. Surgery on Friday back to work on Monday, uh no. Had major swelling, some of it impressive, some scary. Took me almost 2 weeks to get back to work.

Take it easy the first couple of days but move as much as they tell you. You don’t want everything to lock up after surgery.
And take the laxatives! I didn’t poop for three days.

Wishing you an easy surgery and a fast recovery. See you soon!

Had umbilical hernia repaired like two years ago. They used a mesh patch. Went in through belly button.
Woke up a couple hours later. Drove myself home. This was a tuesday I think and I shot a match that Saturday. Can't even tell it was done.

Fast recovery to you!

Yer gonna be able to apply zero torque on the throne to push one out. Start taking them on day one if you don't wanna feel like you swallowed a sack of Quik-Crete.

Today's the day. I report at 8:15 this morning. I'll be back.
It’s 4 1/2 hours later. How’s your “down there”?

I got back home around 1:30 PM. Everything went well, doc was happy. I have minimal "discomfort", I can tell something went on. I have 3 holes in my left side and 1 just above my belly button. Not sure if I'll be able to hang a belly button ring in it, I'll explore that later on.

No problems getting dressed, getting in and out of the car, getting in the house. Bending over to pick something up from the floor, pet the dog, sitting down, getting up, all cause me to notice some soreness at the holes and inside my belly. Not too bad but, I can tell something went on in there. I wasn't sleepy but I went to bed for a little while. I was able to doze for a few minutes. And, I did find out that I could lay on either side without discomfort. So, there's that.

The doc gave me an Rx for 800 mg Motrin, 3X daily. He said to take it the first 2 days whether I felt like I needed it or not. After that, he said it was up to me. He told me to walk a lot and not to pick up a 50 lb bag of dog food. So far, so good. Tomorrow will let me know more about the soreness. I think I'll be able to pull a trigger pretty soon.

Will you be able to play the violin?

I'm so glad you got thru it ok! Do what the docs (and the wife) tell you, ok? We need you all healthy by the end of the month.

Good to hear that everything went OK.
my unsolicited advice, take the pills as prescribed - whatever anesthesia is used now seems to wear off slower.

I'll have to get back to you on this. The other Larry could saw on one pretty well. Maybe it goes with the name.

I'm a 3 holer, just like a 1955 Buick Special.

Healing up nicely. The Dr gave me an Rx for 800mg Motrin, 3 QID. I took one as soon as I got the Rx filled around 1 PM on Thursday and another around 9:30 PM. He said to take them the first couple of days whether I needed them or not. The pills made me very nauseous and I slept very little Thursday night. I'll not take any more of them.
Friday morning, some soreness, but feeling pretty good, I went out and ran a few errands. Te Dr told me that I could drive after 4 to eight hours. The wife said that he said 48 hours but, I heard 4 to 8 hours. I got back home around 10 AM and rested a bit. Still doing well.
I knew that @Have gun-will travel was going to be at Battery Oaks around noon. I had talked to him by PM and on the phone several times but I had never met him. Every time that he came to Conway, I was at work. I gathered up a few things and drove on over. Had a good visit with @RS and @BatteryOaksBilly and got to meet @Have gun-will travel . We even got to fire a few rounds at the Wizard. I tried my Bersa with a proper magazine and it works like a charm.
Friday night and this morning, I'm pretty sore. Not painful, just sore. All of the numbing from the surgery is gone and I was pretty active yesterday. After all, I started my errands less than 24 hours from my surgery. I know that I'm very fortunate to have come through this as easily as I have so far. Yep, I'm sore but the only way to get rid of soreness is to work it out.
Billy is getting a shipment of bowling pins tomorrow. It's going to be very hard for me not to jump in and help unload them. But, I know that I can't do it and I'll have to watch. I don't know what would be worse, the pain when I picked up a box of the pins or the flogging Ronnie Sue would give me with a switch. So, I'll just stand off to the side and criticize everyone that's doing the actual work.

Glad the comeback tour is going so well! Stubbornness & a refusal to take life lying down go a long way!
