I would like to try out Trap, Skeet, Sporting Clays and 5-Stand, without having to buy a new (or new to me) shotgun.

All I have at the moment is a Benelli Supernova and a M4. Pretty sure the M4 isn't welcome at the trap/skeet/sporting clays/etc. range, nor would it be the best choice anyway. ;)
However, would the Supernova be ok if I could find a shell catcher that works 100% of the time?

Seems like this thing is the only one around: https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1014987481
Anyone have experience using this?

That one will work at TRAP. You don't want to use a catcher when shooting any sport that requires a second shot (all of the sports you mentioned)

That design has worked for years and is just now being "re-discovered"..... Caution, it will scratch the receiver if you're not careful...

Bummer, so it doesn't work quite like this one?:

No idea if that one is even in production or not.

Supposedly you can get away with a "good deflector", but I have not found one of those either.

From what I understand the multicatch never worked in real life like it does in the video And they're out of business. I know of no shell catcher that will allow you to shoot doubles.
As far as shooting a pump goes I'm not sure why you would need a catcher. For shooting trap singles, Just eject the shell away from the person to your right. I dont shoot pumps but it seems like it shouldn't be to difficult. For the other clay games, just let them fly.
And yes the Benelli Super Nova will work just fine for any clay game. You dont see all that many pumps on the clays courses, however I enjoy watching anyone that knows how to shoot one well.
Good luck. Shooting Clays can be addicting.

Before you spend money on a shell catcher, get a thick rubber band and put it around the ejection port ahead of the cocking lever. If properly positioned and you have the right tension, the hull can't escape the chamber. You might hate trap, so why waste money on a shell catcher on such a gun?

Skeet and sporting don't require shell catchers. Fire away and let the hulls fly.

The multi catch was popular back in the 70's and as @2slow said, it didn't work in real life as it did in the video. Just go back after the round is over and use a magnet to pick up your empties....
