I don't watch NASCAR... But...

Not sure you heard it but the 4 more years chant from the entire complex was something to behold.

I didn't, but they were roaring in applause. I'm sure the media will find a way to spin it. Otherwise they'll just ignore it as though it never happened...

I have to say, doing a lap in the beast is hilarious. Wonder if they pushed it a little and what speeds they hit. Did the Secret Service do the lap too? :D

I believe they have too. Nobody else is allowed to drive it. I carried one of Reagan's cars years ago in a helo and 3 short haired guys with multiple weapons and good comm systems never got away from the car.

There was something said about 70 MPH. They didn't get off the apron. My guess is at 22,000 lbs. it would have to be moving a little faster than they would want to take the President to be able to keep it up on the banking. And yes, the whole entourage was on track.

They said 70mph was minimum to get off the apron because the berms are 30°. They didn't go that fast.

Just saw some video. He lead the pace lap, full entourage and full field of race cars behind him!. I could tell by the fender flags that he was doing a decent pace over 45. I figured 60 or better.

What a hoot!

The drive-by media will report that the deplorable, unwashed NASCAR fans were shouting for “Four more beers”. ;)

The media will probably spin the wide WHITE belt Melania was wearing as a shout out to white supremacists.

NY Times reporter criticizes President Trump for Daytona 500 appearance. It doesn't end well.
'What did you want him to ride in? An Uber?'
Chris Enloe
A New York Times reporter criticized President Donald Trump for using his presidential limo known as "The Beast" during his visit to the Daytona International Speedway on Sunday.

Reporter Maggie Haberman said, "Using the official apparatus of government for what appears to be a political event."

In response, Haberman was rebuked for her characterization of Trump's activities on Sunday.

Indeed, Trump was not in Daytona for a political event, rather he was on-hand as a VIP guest to give the iconic "gentleman, start your engines" command, as well as lead the field of 40 drivers during the pace laps before the race got underway.

"I'm sorry, but this is just an absurd characterization of what's actually happening here and describing it this way betrays a real bias," one person responded to Haberman.

"To be blunt, get a life, Maggie. Obama went to a #MarchMadness game and that was fine. Relax. I know the #Daytona500 is the opposite of what The Times represents readership-wise, but chill," another person responded.

"Maggie, your unique insights are invaluable. Keep up the solid journalisming!" another critic responded.

"What did you want him to ride in? An Uber?" another person responded.

"Wait until you learn that the president rides in that thing to literal campaign events," another person responded.

"So what do you call it when you use journalism as a politics apparatus for the Democratic Party?" one person mocked.

Come on brother. It NASCAR. Diehard conservatives whether blue or red registered. Sport of the blue collar working man.

LOL yeah right. NASCAR hasn’t been a working man’s sport in 20+ years. It’s been all about corporate schmoozing since they dropped Winston as a sponsor and left tracks like Wilkesboro and Rockingham for the cookie cutter tracks in Kansas, Chicago and Vegas.

The wheels up flyby was also impressive, but that pic above... woW.... gives a 'size' to that airplane....

Fox mentioned D Waltrip had involvement, but was nowhere to be seen....

and yep, plenty of suits all around him in all the TV shots... hands at 'ready'...

correct as reported on 70mph being necessary for banking for the ~3800# car, unknown for 'the beast', but initial pace laps are at pit road speed to allow drivers to synchronize tachometers ....

Including the black Tahoe that has the Dillon gattling gun that comes out of the roof

I just explained to my wife that when they took races from Rockingham and Darlington I was done.

Last race I watched was the 1996 Tyson Holly Farms 400 at North Wilkesboro.

After that, I swore I’d never go to/watch another one...I haven’t and I won’t.

And F’ Bruton Smith

I didn't always get to watch the races but we always had em on the radio. It's a shame that it's turned into what it is now...... this crowd today will never know what it was like for Bill Elliott to break track records with an engine his brother built in the back yard.

You must not have watched the race. Darrell waltrip was in the broadcast booth for the race. Jamie McMurray was driving the 40 car because Reed Sorenson was out couldn't drive today

Or watch Bill make up the two laps he went down and the win the race.

Stage racing ain't racing. I couldn't tell you what most of the sponsors are about. There are only three drivers that I could tell you that are in NASCAR. They lost me about five years ago.

Made the same mistake myself. Nodded off when they were trying to dry the track. Woke up, cars were moving so I figured all was good. Wasn't till I heard DW talking that I realized it was last years. They're running at 4 today if you want to catch it.

Bad crash on the last lap. Ryan Newman got spun, went airborne and got hit again. Conflicting reports coming in now. Some say the safety crew had black curtains around the car, others are saying he was awake when he was transported.
