Daytona 500 crash Ryan Newman

It isn’t looking good from what I am hearing I pray he is ok. That wreck was worse than the 2001 death of Dale Earnhardt Sr

Looking at the replay in the OP the worst hit looks like when the 32 hit him on the driver side roof panel while he was upside down in the air ... damn close to his head ...

Exactly what I said to the wife. Isn't looking good. Saw a tweet from a reporter saying they put up screens around the car before they took him out and all media had been told to leave the pits. Hoping he's ok and it's all just precautionary.

I am not a fan of today’s NASCAR but Ryan is one of the last drivers from when I actually watched ...

My wife made the worst statement a few minutes ago ... the more time goes by with no word from Roush or NASCAr the worse the situation likely is ...

Haven’t watched a race in several years. But not only did one of the driver’s I liked the most get injured, one of my top 2 least favorite won the race. Uggh.

Watching the video, I’m surprised the fire wasn’t bigger before they got to him...assuming that was fuel I saw pouring out when they zoomed in?

Man, I just don't get nascar. I've tried to like it.
It's like you just draft till the end, then spin them and win. It's weird "racing". Meh.

It's like basketball: just go ahead and watch the last 5 minutes.

NASCAR and his team Roush Fenway issued a statement they won’t give any updates until the family decides to do so themselves. There would be no time table to do so either.

Some people are heartless idiots!

And another unfit adult has the audacity to hope a man dies because of his political views.

Someone said today that nascar allowed a much larger rear spoiler and an extra 200hp in these cars for Daytona. I wonder if that's true and how fast they do away with it? Ryan Newman just brought NASCAR the most publicity since Senior mc crashy pants died all those years ago.

That someone doesn't have the slightest idea wtf they are talking about..
Could they be thinking of this?

: NASCAR will limit horsepower with a tapered spacer for every race but next year's Daytona 500. Cars will run 550 horsepower at all tracks 1.33 miles and larger. At tracks less than 1.33 miles, cars will have 750 horsepower.

ETA : This was from the 2019 rules package

Damn! That is remarkable. He doesn’t seem to be limping, favoring an arm or leg, etc after that wild ride. I know race cars are built with safety in mind but when I watched the slow mo and checked out the pictures of the drivers side upper roll cage I really thought he was going to be in a world of trouble. I’m sure he’s sore and there will be a concussion protocol but he’s light years ahead of where I thought he’d be ... somebody up there was really watching over him.

Hell he even walked out with no shoes on and a Wild Turkey t-shirt ...

Just noticed in the video of him leaving the hospital. It looked like he may have had a flip flop on his left foot over a sock and nothing but a sock on his right foot.

With the impact and slide I was expecting a broken arm and or some serious road rash. To see the wreck and all the car went thru, gramps would say, "damn the boy looks good."

Makes me wonder if it's a staged photo at the behest of NASCAR. Less than 24 hour ago he was listed as "serious condition".

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad he is apparently doing okay but it makes me wonder.........
