So i never post stuff like this. But this is a great video for some of you who have not seen a mas-tac Airborne jump from inside the aircraft.

The video shows in-flight rigging, Actions in the Aircraft. Airforce loadmasters opening the paratroop doors, Jumpmasters doing DZ checks and lastly paratroopers exiting the aircraft.

And yes all that gear is why most of us have bad backs.

Enjoy

How far apart from each other when the land? It seems they'd really be spread out at that exit rate.

Crap shoot. If no sky sharks are present, anywhere from ten to several yards apart. Sky sharks about? All bets are off & pray for no entanglements.

Wooliest jump I ever did was at 7 bird mas-tac at 0200hrs in the rain. Exiting into the clouds was a trip.

Wow! How many pounds of gear were those kids waddling around with?? That's just crazy!

Thanks for showing me that, it made me want to jump out of yet another perfectly good plane!

(I may be too old now, though, I was only 38 the first time.)

In Iraq for the jump that was cancelled in 2003 my body weight was 250lbs i tipped the scales at 385lbs geared up.

On training jumps into NTC ot JRTC a 100lbs ruck is normal

Well, no wonder you guys are all banged up, then!

And I use to whine about our SCBA’s and turn out gear at 75lbs ... and we didn’t hit the ground 15 mph either o_O

What's the minimum height/weight for that sort of thing(if paratroopers carry 135 lbs of gear)? Are smaller service members not selected for infantry? Doesn't seem like people could keep up carrying nearly their weight in gear.
I’m not sure about minimum height and weight but my son is 5’6” and weighed 120lbs when he was in 82nd. He would carry an extra 80lbs when he jumped otherwise he said he floated forever.

I weighed around 160 and had 80-125 pounds of gear strapped to me during jumps. I thought being the radioman would be cool until I found out how much weight it added to my ruck. I was lucky to never injure my back but my knees and ankles took quite a beating.

Upon landing, how high of an equivalent jump would it be without a parachute? Like jumping off a 10-foot roof? 5-feet?

As a kid we went camping at an old military facility. They had a tower with a zip line to a sand pit. We were told that it was for training on parachute landing. Hard to judge heights cause I was shorter then, but it was 3-4 times my height so maybe 15-20 feet tall and the line was pretty steep. We were told to stay off, so of course we were on the thing every day.

Always gave me the heebie jeebies <shudder>. I had orders for jump school and conveniently called a favor for DMT instead. Me no likey heights. Now my community has a for-real pipeline and you can't get out of the merit badge schools.

24 straight years on Airborne status. I got multiple hip fractures from jumping on the real St Mere Elgise, France during the 59th Anniversary of D Day in 03'. Doing a ParaScuba jump really loads you up. 65 lbs of parachutes, 80 lbs for twin 80 SCUBA tanks, 16 lb weight belt, plus your LBE and weapon. Usually we put the tanks in a rubber boat and drop that first.

Last rigging my son for a jump into Robin Sage exercise NC summer of 07'. After that he earned his Green Beret like his father. Jump was a night, combat equipment jump, C-130 unto a pitch black drop zone. No illumination that night. Can't say I threw him out as he followed me off the ramp. I was the jumping jumpmaster and he was the #1 jumper.
