Folks, it’s that time again. Weather looks promising for Saturday. Stages are already designed. Briefing below:

The address is:
Piedmont Handgunners Association
10346 S North Carolina Hwy 150
Linwood, NC 27299

The match will be 5 stages consisting of pistol only shooting. We will be engaging steel (10+yds) and paper targets from distances of 3 to 40 yards. Stages will consist of shooting, moving while shooting, reloading, reloading while moving, and any other conceivable combination I can think of. Please note for the foreseeable future we have eliminated the cover mechanic and penalties. These are too hard to enforce fairly. Instead, stage design will include setup that forces shooting around tight corners and other mechanics deemed useful for smart tactical target engagement.

At a minimum shooters will need a reliable and safe pistol, a holster, spare magazines or speed loaders (magazine retention is encouraged but not required. Pockets are fine), and 150-200 rounds of ammunition. AR-style pistols with braces are not allowed; conventional holster-able pistols only. Revolvers are allowed. Any caliber from .22 to .45 is fine.

Shooters are grouped into the following categories:
Revolver – self-explanatory.
BUG – back-up gun. Centerfire. Barrel under 3” magazine holds less than 8.
CSP - compact service pistol. Centerfire, barrel under 4”
SSP – stock service pistol. Centerfire, barrel over 4”
OPEN – any heavily modified pistol with optics, flared magwell, ports, or holstered in a comp rig. Etc.
Rimfire – any .22lr or similar rimfire pistol.
Note: before it actually happens, if you elect to bring a .22lr revolver then you can shoot in either group of your choice. So there… no need to ask.

Due to the costs of targets, props, and general range bay maintenance, I have decided to discontinue the $5 discount for club members. The match was barely generating enough money to cover the costs of the paper targets consumed. Going forward match fees will be $10 for all. This is still a lot of match for only $10. I hope this will not deter anyone considering coming for the first time. Please remember, RO’s shoot for free, as well as early setup crew. If you want to be part of the early setup crew, please see check-in desk as soon as you arrive.

Scoring is IDPA like but not identical.

Regards,
Isaac

Looking forward to competing for the first time. Tried to last month but never got the memo that it was canceled. Fingers crossed the weather cooperates with us this weekend.

You are going to enjoy yourself. Isaac does a good job and runs a safe match.

Fantastic match. Tons of variety between the stage setups, a good bit of SHO and WHO shooting, plenty of steel, and the field courses really left shooters with a lot of options.

Oh, and no hit factor math.

Completely agree! Had a great time and I will definitely try to make it next month if my work schedule allows.

Isaac, thank you for all the effort you put in to make this happen.

It started with a chilly morning, but once the sun came up on the range it never felt cold.

The stages, were great. Lots of choices for each shooter to choose how to tackle the stage, with enough close shots to make it fast and enough far shots to keep us honest.

Already looking forward to next month.

Scores are attached.

Thank you so much to my setup crew. I couldn't do it without you. It was a good safe match with a reasonable turnout. thank you all for that. Everyone went home with the same number of holes they came with, except for Tim. Sorry about your foot Tim, hopes it's OK. (He stepped on a nail)

See you next month.

do you have a video of one of these? I am so horrible at shooting while moving, would like to see it in action to see what to work on.

Just come out and shoot. The best way to figure out what you need to work on is to jump in and give it a try. There is a wide variety of ages and skill levels. Everyone is really nice and helpful. I’m sure you’ll have a good time and learn a lot.

Isaac has a YouTube channel where he posts POV footage of the matches. I also have some footage from recent matches, which is all in 3rd person. It will show you stage layouts a bit more clearly than a headcam. I’ll PM you and see if I can email those.

How do we find his YouTube?

Search his name and “PHA.” There are actually quite a few regulars that post videos. “PHA Defensive Pistol” will find quite a few.

Like the other said just show up.
I haven't been since Isaac took over unfortunately, maybe I can change that next month.
Shooting on the move is a great skill, but definitely not something to hold you back from attending any match. I assure you if there is an opportunity, many won't take it and some that do will pay for it in hits or time.
